I would like to suggest a new title for this book: Everyone's Guide to Money.

There really isn't much in this book that applies to busy families, other than one chapter about teaching kids about money. The rest could apply to just about anyone, with or without a family.

Actually this book doesn't apply to just about anyone. Topics like, "how many times per month your house cleaner should come", "when to cut back on manicures", and "what to do when grandparents give your kids $24,000" do not apply to me in any way. I would also argue that they likely don't apply to most people that pick up this book.

If you are looking for guidance on financial matters, I would highly suggest anything by Suze Orman, Dave Ramsey, or David Bach over this book.

I was looking for something that would compliment my Dave Ramsey financial books. I feel that Dave's advice is better than this book, on the other hand, this book provided information that Dave's doesn't. He gives good investment advice but leaves it up to you to figure out what to do from there. I am pretty clueless & Nolo's book gave me more info. on investment choices. Mutal funds are confusing & I felt like I had a better understanding of investing for my retirement after reading this book. I am still a big fan of Dave & prefer his advice over this Nolo book. Dave is much more strict so to speak with ones money & I like that.
Nolo's book provides information on web sites & resources outside of the book. Things like free sites to set up your financial planning, kinda like worksheets. I'm very happy that I got this book. I know that I will be referring to it often. If you are looking for a financial guide I highly recommend this book as well as ANY and ALL of the Dave Ramsey books.

A few interesting concepts. Good for a beginner finance book for someone who wants to start somewhere.

This is a nice practical view of family finances. While the guide isn't overly innovative in its advice, it's a generally good middle of the road finance book for your typical family.
