It is 1969 when two young boys approach Casey Hammond in the airport, alone and scared and lost in a country not their own. She agrees to help them get to their uncle—but she has no idea of the danger and intrigue she will soon encounter. It seems there are foreign nationals in pursuit of the children, which risks the safety of the entire group. When an arrogant but handsome young man comes to their rescue, she soon learns he is the children’s older cousin. He has volunteered to become their protector as they attempt to get the children safely to their uncle. More quickly than she could have imagined, Casey soon finds herself growing attached to the two children—and their attractive, warmhearted cousin. In this thrilling romance, set in the sixties, a young woman sets out to help two children defecting from a communist country—and falls in love along the way.
This book was not what I expected it was sooo much more. I enjoyed it very much. Children who left Russia in search of a better life. There are always many challenges when you try to better yourself, but I feel it is always worth it to try. *This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.*
Will not be recommending this book to anyone ever. She came into our store and was so incredibly demanding and rude because we did not have her book in stock. Also her husband was incredibly demeaning.
Ruth Callick’s “Run from a Shadow” tells the story of 2 young children who have defected from a Russia controlled communist country. They approach Casey at the airport for help finding the bus to their uncle’s home. Kindhearted Casey ends up driving the children there, but he’s not home. When they try again later after some dinner, they find out he has moved away.
The pace of the story picks up when the bad guys show up and attempt to take the children away. By thinking fast on her feet, Casey is able to escape in a taxi. The adventure continues with unexpected challenges. Even with the involvement of the young children’s uncle Kier, the children are still in danger.
Overall, the story is enjoyable with a predictable conclusion.
After being handed a book(signed by author no less), by a man in a waiting room, it took no time for me to fall in love. I am thankful that I encountered the authors husband and that I will never turn down something to read. Ruth's books will grab you instantly and maintain their strong hold on you until the very last page. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that unlike an easy summer read, her novels have a lot of substance and are written from a realistic perspective.
Set in the 60s, this charming, yet thrilling fiction started quick, and didn't let up til the last word. With a sweet romance nestled into the action and thrilling danger, the story definitely pulled me in, and kept me hooked.
Casey unexpectedly comes in contact with two lost young boys, looking for a bus station. Endeared by their tears and obvious panic, she decides to help, and sets herself off on a path that will change her life completely. The boys are on the run from foreign officials, and simply want to get to their uncle, and wait for their father to find them. With their mother already passed, Casey quickly becomes the woman-figure in their lives, keeping them safe, and forming a bond none of them expected.
The only thing that could complete their temporary little family - a charming, handsome man to help Casey shoulder the responsibility. Luckily the boys have a cousin who's volunteered himself to help get them to safety. Of course, falling in love with each other is the icing on the cake.
With a sugary sweet ending to wrap up the suspense, the story ends exactly how you'd want it to. If you're a fan of young adult adventures and thrilling suspense, be sure to pick this on up!
