I have read "Can You Stand to be Blessed?" twice and this last time, I hosted a Bible Study... reading through this book. I like how T.D. Jakes starts out by saying, "God does change lives." Jakes talks about the Grace to do something. "Problems are not really problems to a person who has the grace to serve in a particular area" (pg. 3). I like Jakes' encouragement to not give up. On page 14, he says, "The real price of success lies within the need to persevere. The trophy is never given to someone who does not complete the task." Jakes talks about being relentless, abounding in the work of the Lord. Jakes reminds us that we can't pray away God's seasons... the Lord has a purpose in not allowing us to be fruitful all the time. I love that Jakes reminds us that God is with us, even when we walk through the fire. On page 43, Jakes defines the enemy as being "anything that hinders the purpose of God in our lives." Jakes wants us to release our painful memories and break the unsettling issues that keep us up at night. Jakes shares his own personal experiences of starting out as a Minister. I love being reminded that God is working behind the scenes and the power of his presence. Jakes defines "Cain's Children" on page 118 as being those who are offended at what God does for you. Jakes talks about the "price tag" of success, saying that being blessed is hard work and requires maintenance. Jakes encourages us to cast down our crowns, bend our knees and recognize the true reason for our success. God is about to unveil "a new realm of glory in your life" (pg. 163).

This was a great book. When looking for direction and understanding in life, it was a powerful read to see God's word applied to everyday predicaments.
This is a great book. I read it during a times or storms and warfare and it really blessed me. Thank you Lord for speaking through Your son such a powerful message.
I already know T.D Jakes to be an incredible presenter of the word of God, so when this book "appeared" to me in a search, I had to pick it up....becaus I needed a pick up He uses biblical back up to deliver an incredible message...the good news! One phrase to summarize: I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me! I got this as a kindle book, and will probably gift the paperback version to people I care about throughout the year
This was a pretty decent book. Bishop Jakes uses a lot of vivid and colorful words to make his points. He encourages the reader to live for God. He parallel several Scriptural passages with his life. This made the point come alive a bit more. You'll definitely be encouraged. While he uses Scripture, it's not a heavily used.
Great advice for people who are on the road to success. There are turns, twists and bumps in the road and Bishop Jakes makes you think about how you'll handle them. One important lesson I learned from this...success is a lonely place. Everybody can't go.
I bought this book because I discovered that walking with the Lord does not eliminate the every day issues of this world. This book is truly helping me to understand, learn, and move on from the ups and downs of life. I highly recommend this book!
My mom gave me this book it was good and I passed it on to my sister in law...very empowering makes you feel good to be alive! And how blessed we really are!!
Bishop Jakes is gifted beyond words. This book serves as sort of a spiritual-GPS to help you understand your place and plight while assuring you that positive change is well on the way...
Enjoyed the book and would recommend it but found this one a little hard to get into through the first few chapters. If you hang on though I think you will be pleased by the end.
4.75/5 Took a bit for me to get it done. Almost DNF'd it because it was "taking too long to get done" but decided that I'd get done when I get done. Well, some months and books later, it's done! It was great book 'but', I didn't give it a 5/5 because it just takes more for me to give that rating these days. A classic Bishop Jakes book that needed to be read. I have a couple more over here but I'll get to those as they call to me. (Yep, I'm counting this as a read for the trick or treatathon book. A tad bit of a 'cheat'..lol)
T.D. Jakes enjoys spending time with people who "stir up the fire" in him. But he also knows, that while friends can offer encouragement in loving God, at the end of the day each individual must fight their own battle to break into realms of victorious life. Jakes exhorts his readers to press through difficult times in order to bear fruit and experience the blessings of God.
Great book on how God uses hardships for His purpose. He shared some of his personal experiences with ministry and how God spoke to him about building the minister more than building a ministry. Favorite quote on worship “worth-ship shows worth intensity that causes people to pursue the invisible despite visible distractions is a result of need”
Bishop Jakes is an amazing orator and writer! I couldn’t help but read this entire book in his voice lol. There were so many quotes that I highlighted and bookmarked. His writing is very descriptive and visual which helped deepen my understanding of his message. Overall this was an amazing read and I’ll definitely be picking up this book again.
I have read and digested the wise words of Godly advise from such a well learned preacher of the great gospel of Jesus Christ. I will apply the words to my life. God bless you Bishop Jakes. You been a blessing to my life. Great book to read!
