Just here to update this profile. I'm actually not 25 anymore but I'll be 30 next year haha. Still writing. Wow. Can't believe it. Current book I'm working on as I type this; Moon Child.
If you know, use, and appreciate the use of proper grammar and sentence structure, this is NOT the book to read. This is every grammar nazi's worst nightmare! This book is so riddled with incomplete sentences, fragments, misspelled words, and bad grammar that you can't even focus on the story itself! I mean seriously.....subject + verb + object = a complete sentence. It's not hard. Question marks are not substitutes for commas. They should follow a COMPLETE sentence when a question is posed. The edge of a sidewalk is not a "curve"- it's a curb.
We also don't need a new description of physical features of a character EVERY SINGLE TIME we see them! Describing them the first time we meet them is sufficient. Every time Tuesday's red hair and freckles were described, every time Savannah's jet black straight hair was described, every time Gunner's dreadlocks were described, every time Paris' sunken red eyes were described, I wanted to scream, "We know what they look like already! You've told us!"
The characters and the situations they're in and the decisions they make are completely unbelievable and don't feel authentic. Savannah, a woman who supposedly has an education, her own money, career, and property is not believable as a character to do/get caught up in the things/situations that she does. No black woman of any sense would do or put up with any of that, c'mon now!
This book had potential but the minute possibilities of a decent story get bogged down and lost in the horrendous grammar and spelling. The author, if they don't want to go through a publishing house, should hire a couple of people who at least got Bs in English in school to read her works before publishing.
Ok so these books I'm reading by desiree are on a whole other level!!! Everything about her books just draw u in page by page!! If u haven't read anything by her, u are missing out!!!!!! I can't believe I'm just hearing about her! The saying is so true, never judge a book by its cover! Her books were overlooked because of the covers but my oh my the words inside her books are amazing!
I really enjoyed this book. It ended a bit abruptly though. It would've been nice to have a hint about why Terrance is able to get away with his crap. Is it Blackmail? Can't wait for part 2.
First things first, the author is actually very creative and is very talented. My review isn't due to gramer or to belittle the book in any way. The synopsis was mis leading and from the first prologue i knew this book wasn't for me. There should be some warning for readers and an age limit set, with that being said, this is not a story about black love. This is a story about abuse, neglect and the stereotype that i wish black authors would get away from. If the synopsis had shed light on the mayhem this book is readily distributing I would of over looked it and you would not have this bar review tainting an otherwise stellar body of work. Not for me, wish you the nest of luck and fortune.
To be honest, this is easily my least favorite start of a Desiree series. Bambino felt disjointed, with no clear focus to grab onto. The constant repetition of character descriptions was frustrating, and the storyline often felt scattered. While everything did come together in the end, it still felt like something was missing. Good thing this book is a series.
The best part of the story was definitely when Demarco’s cousin caught him and Devyn in bed together and tried to whip them with a belt. It was a wild moment. I had high expectations for this series, especially with all the criminal, abusive, and predatory themes, but I feel like I should’ve read The Carter Boys series first to get the full context. Throughout the book, I kept wanting Savannah to stand up for herself. With all these men and her mother controlling her life, I kept hoping she'd break free and take control of her own narrative. And what happened to Tuesday/Diega? Her storyline wasn’t explored enough for me, and her adult character was frustrating. I get that it’s tied to her trauma and her need to disassociate, but it still felt like she took nothing serious. Talking about a coping skill. As for Monae, her character felt extra with all the drama and over-the-top moments. Begging Gunner to marry you? Not a good look. I do like Devyn, but honestly, we know so little about her so far, so it’s hard to connect with her fully.
P.S. I don’t find it funny that Tuesday is messing with Devyn just because she's deaf and thinking it’s funny.
I choose to read this book because of the positive reviews but I swear it took me forever to even understand what was going on, it just didn't make sense all the past versus present and too many characters, the point of view in which the author is writing is confusing too! I hope the next book is better.
I am thoroughly enjoying making my way through this catalogue. I cracked up at the Author Notes when she said she feels bad for those only catching up on the Carters in 2016...because it was 2021 for me. I love and enjoy the character building. I love how this book has a different feel. There is romance and it seems like slow burn but there's a lot of suspense and intrigue as well. I appreciate how Desiree doesn't shy away from discussing dark and heavy subjects.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have all Desiree's books! It's cool getting to peek into this new world with some old character's sprinkled in. I'm excited to learn even more about Tuesday!
This wasn't her average story! Tuesday has been thru everything. Her and Jason are cute. I hope Paris and Savannah work it out for the sake of the baby.
Absolutely enjoyed this book! I don't even know how to express how I feel about this story because it was so good. These characters had my attention from page 1. It was some serious stuff going on as well as the most hilarious stuff at the same time. Junie Boy had me in stitches, I felt bad for Savannah, Terrance needs to be shot, I love Devyn and Tuesday crazy personalities, Jason is Bae. About to start Opium, can't get enough of these characters.
This is an excellent transition from the Carter boys/Carter girls series. I like the focus of characters in this novel. Each character brings something different to the table. Looking forward to part 2.
If I could have given this a negative number, I would have! I really wish the author would hire an editor! The story/plot got lost in all the grammar faux pas! Reading this was akin to attempting to read something written in a foreign language! It was painful!
Bambino was definitely an excellent read. It set the stage and was basically centered around Tuesday Carter and her early life. It also went more into detail of the family business and her father Christian Carter. More characters are introduced and some old ones are mentioned. Although I miss the Hollywood Carters, this book shows the other side of the family and they are just as entertaining if not more. This book will not disappoint you but as always PLEASE read the books in order and before you read this one. You can read them out of order but doing so will have you confused and wondering where this and that person came from. Love Desiree and her writing. I will be a lifetime reader and fan of books!
This book was good!!! I loved all the characters! Tuesday is a nut case and she better leave my boo Devyn alone! I lobed every female character! They are all different but somehow tied! Tuesday is crazy! Devyn is my sweet thug! Savannah is BAMBINO! Moe is BAE! I LOVEEDDDD IT!
I’m still all in gotta find out who’s real and who’s fake. What will happen to the Carter family and how will Ms. Desiree bring this home so many questions and I’m here for it all... Continuing to read and be amazed at the development of each character!
Desiree didn't lie when she said it was a slow read, but it was good. I know she's leading up to something great. Of course it wouldn't be a Desiree book without 50 characters to keep up with.
Absolutely loved this story and the introduction to new characters. Also like that I got to find out a little more about Tuesday Carter. She was such an enigma to me. Also Demarco is always nice to fantasize about. Junie made the story with his comedic ways and Yayo also with his nerdy self.
I love Monae Skye and how she loves on people around her. It will be so interesting to see the dynamics between her and her new found siblings. Also will she leave Gunner who doesn't want to get married? That's the big question.
Jason Turner seems to have knocked Tuesday off her square but will sins of the father affect this situation? I believe it will cause a hail storm that the media will eat alive.
Savannah Turner with her lonely successful self and looking for love. She may have accidentally found it in a one nightstand that led to a baby. Her overbearing mother is forcing her into a marriage with a monster. There is more to Terrance and his family than meets the eye. I hope she finds solace in Paris. Okay Desiree what's next because you have my full blown attention.
I don't normally like "ghetto " books. Or Urban fiction. I get frustrated reading N word this and B that. Bunch of hoodlums runnin around doing what hoodlums do. Black people are more then their environment and stereo types. But Ms. Desiree, kept me reading past the typical BS. The intro had me like," hell no how he doing this to his child, " I am not reading this! Then I kept going Tuesday is interesting, but the story is not about her mostly, its about BAMBINO! And girl got some issues. She's smart, wealthy, got some back bone ,but still being pushed around by her family. Read the story ya'll it's great!
Awesome read Desiree. I like the story and mad because I have to wait until November for the 2nd book. But I Understand, good writing takes time. Bambino was a good story. I liked because it wasn't the typical sex and drug story. It was more about family and the good and bad that comes with it. You are a good writer and this story put you in the league of a Terri McMillan.
3.5 Despite the grammatical errors, I really liked this book. I can’t wait until all connection are discovered and acknowledged. Tuesday tells her truth to EVERYONE, yet they don’t know how to take her. Shoot, she doesn’t know how to handle herself. There is a lot of repetition and dialogue I could have been left out. This is my first read by this author, so maybe I am not used to her writing style.
New characters. New storyline. And new connections. Bambino meeting Devyn, Savannah and Moe is not a coincident. Each one connected to the corrupt Turner family in some kind of way and this is just the beginning. More Carters are involved and their connections are deep too. I can’t wait to see how everything unfolds. I was glad to see the new Carters although I’m a fan of the others it was time to move since the family is so big. Tuesday is my fav in the book so far
Wow this was an interesting read. It started off slow for me and I couldn't get into it but it began to pick up and liked it. Some familiar characters were there which I loved. They added the silly elements which were so funny. I'm glad I took a chance on this one. Ready for the next one.
I give this tome 5 stars because it surprised me from begin ing to end. I follow this author, having recently discovered The Carter Boys and have read every book she's written.
There's mystery is this book which I didn't expect along with raw ATL urban drama. It's another winner 🏆
I will say I don't plan on reading the Carter series but to start with Bambino... This denfinely a different type of read. I luv the connection that this four women and their guy have but not kno they have yet. This some movies s**** or even OWN or Bounce where they can beep and you still got to watch it.
When j said this was a different story lone from which I was use to u never lied. That beginning tho almost made me stop so many times. I am thankful for something different. I really enjoyed this book, so freaking funny. U know u was wrong for most of the funny parts. I loved every bit of it tho. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
U got me writing another review, I told u I don't do that often. But continue 2 write the way u do. People complain but they keep on reading. I've been reading since the Carter Boys n will keep on reading. Do u. At this point, I could care less what u call a book. I'm lookin 4 ur name. BE PROUD!
Bambini is definitely a different type of story. I so appreciate you for allowing us to see ur talent.....I love excaping into a great book,to the point that I completely zone out and become a part otthe story in my head at least..... idk wats to come b7 I’m hon a be mad if I am all caught up,
This. Ok right here was one of the best reads...I’ve read in a while...yes there are a million characters...but I was so intrigued by this story...I found myself taking notes...in order to remember how everyone was connected...don’t sleep on this book...it’s a must read...these characters have real life stories...that so many can relate too.
