We want to eat whatever we want, but without our health collapsing down the road. We want our friends to be attentive, but without considering how our behavior impacts them. We want our kids to thrive, but without making sacrifices. But that’s not the way the w

I highly highly recommend this book to any Christian who has felt a major disconnect between the way he/she talks about prayer and the way it is actually experienced in reality. That would be me. If I was ever specifically trained to pray in the way Eldredge teaches, it must have gone in one ear and out the other, or I just wasn't ready to ingest it. What I like about this book is what I like about the Eldredges generally: they are thoughtful, not preachy, speaking out of hard won experience rather than in platitudes. Probably the best insight and counsel here is that prayer is ultimately the way for us to be in union with God, to join in the divine pr ...more

I always enter one of Eldredge with great expectations. But he exceeded my expectations in this work. It was masterful. I believe I have made a breakthrough in my understanding on the prayer of a believer. I really thought I had exhausted human knowledge on the subject. But, the author took me to new heights of understanding.

One of the best books on prayer that I have read. One of the most powerful prayer in the book is a prayer for salvation for you unsaved family and friends.

I love everything this man writes, and this book is no exception. Eldredge has changed the way I think about prayer in urging us to wield divine authority when we pray. Highly recommended.

John Eldredge is an author (you probably figured that out), a counselor, and teacher. He is also president of Ransomed Heart, a ministry devoted to helping people discover the heart of God, recover their own heart in his love, and learn to live in his Kingdom. John grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles (which he hated), and spent his boyhood summers on his grandfather’s cattle ranch in eastern Ore ...more
