In 1907 and again in 1908 Adolf Hitler applied for entry at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He was rejected on both occasions – a professor citing “unfitness for painting”. It seems that this decision has been deemed by many historians as not a significant event. But what if Adolf Hitler had been accepted to the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts? Prior to this rejection ...more

MY THOUGHTS
There was a side of Adolph Hitler that most do not know. It's hard to think of this evil man as being an artist but he was. He had sold several of his paintings and he had been rejected, not once but twice from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. This was in 1907 and 1908. The professors didn't think he was fit for art. What if Adolf Hitler had been accepted into the Academy? Would that have changed his entire life? The thought is that the professors who rejected him might have been J

I am not a great fan of 'what if' versions of history but I got a copy of this book as a 'Giveaway' and am very grateful for it - even if it was somewhat different from what I, mistakenly, thought it was going to be.

I found it interesting and, on occasions, a bit of fun (one doesn't like to use the word fun/enjoyment etc when discussing Hitler, but you know what I mean). As a fictional parody (rather than a fully intellectual appraisal of what might have been) I found it a worthwhile (I wanted t

As far as alternative history/what if history goes this one is a whopper of a tale. I appreciated how the author was able to work in many Hitler facts to make the story more believable but there were a lot of anachronistic things that didn't quite fit even within the timeline of this altered history scenario. With some sort of sick fascination I couldn't put it down which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of the 2 I was thinking about. There were occasional typos and I found the few NSFW bits bot ...more

Excellent read!!! I'm so glad I got this in a giveaway and was able to get my hands on it. It's interesting reading from a perspective that many don't know about. As a studying historian, I would highly recommend this text!

I have thought about this before and it was wonderful reading it from somebody else. How different things would be if Hitler was a successful artist. It was thought provoking and I found myself discussing it with my own family. This is why I am rating it 5 stars. I find it successful when you find your self wanting to share ideas inspired from it.

Good part of if-history. Nice to read and well written.

It's a pity that controversy will prevent many from reading this book, much less owning up to readership. That is a shame, because the alternate world created by A.M. Overett is not only worth visiting, but expanding. Given its potential, this book is almost painfully short. Details, details! I want to know more about these characters! The rehabilitation of Adolf Hitler is only one portion of a well-researched work. The Feminist takeover itself is worthy of a separate title. My fervent wish woul ...more

I received this book for free via Goodreads First Reads.

I have read 'what if' books before based on various scenarios and people. I have never read one that is quite on the scale that this one is. A certain Adolf Hitler gets accepted into the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His life then changes from what history records. I found the premise to this fascinating and the words even better.

The alternative future features many figures from history and pop culture but not quite as you know them. It s

I received this book through Goodreads Giveaways. A work that narrates from the point of view of an alternate history where I'd say Hitler has a whole sub-genre to himself. The novel deals with themes of the interpretation and cultural inferiority and identity, and the effects of it on culture. It rewrites history in a unique way.

I shall not be spoiling any of the storyline so dont worry reading this :)

As a History teacher I was sceptical at first; I dont like If-history and that is what this is. I expected a book that would be pure speculative and non-readable for a 'parttime' historian. However, my vision has been changed. I thin If-historical books are a fun read for a historian; not correct but fun and just something else and that is what this book is. The historical perspective of the 'real deal' has been forged int
