The book is very age appropriate for preschool aged children. It follows the story of a caterpillar who is very hungry, which is something that preschoolers can relate to. They are learning who they are and what their bodies can tell them, so this book can serve as a great tool to talk about what being hungry means and how it may feel. The repetition of the book can also make this a great book for children who are learning to read, since they know what to expect. The pictures accurately portray ...more

I would rate this book five stars. I loved this version of the book. I have seen it before. The colors and visuals of the book are incredible and bright! I think this book is very appropriate for the preschool age because of these mentioned reasons. The bright colors and strong visuals attract my eye and I know it would attract a child’s attention even more. Some of the awards this book has been given include the New York Times Ten Best Picture Books of the Year, American Institute of Graphic Ar ...more

The original Very Hungry Caterpillar was great but, this pop-up edition is amazing! It really takes the story to a whole new level. They took Eric Carle's already beautiful combination of collage artwork and acrylic painting and made it interactive. I noticed in this story that the caterpillar is always eating left to right, this adds a linear quality to the book that ties in perfectly with the story. For example, at the end of the caterpillar's progression, it forms a coccoon that stops on the ...more

I loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar! I have not read the pop-up version before, but this book came to life with the pop-up art. The artwork added a beautiful element to what is one of my favorite books from my childhood. The book is very appropriate for preschoolers because children are able to put an illustration with the words of the text. The vibrant colors used also appeal to young children. Eric Carle, the author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal and the ...more

Not that the story wasn't good already, but ESPECIALLY for the caterpillar-butterfly transformation at the end of the book, the pop up format is just perfection.
