Tango With Death

Tango with Death is a great introduction to the charming work of Ulf poetic, funny, sad, and moving little stories about Life, Death, Love, The Universe, Strange People and Horrible Endings, executed in a virtuoso "clear line" style. The book includes an illustration gallery.

Story ****
This German, published and translated out of Belgium, uses dark and somber themes throughout the majority of the short stories. It's very well titled because death and heartbreak are the centerpieces. Still, it's enjoyable reading and rye in it's humour.

Art: ****
To his credit and our pleasure, I cannot think of anybody off the top of my head that I can compare it to. It's mostly goofy cartoony and highly European but exacting when he wants it to be. He demonstrates many different styles that he options depending to the needs of the story. My favorite feature is his constant use of hats that gives a memorable vintage feel to the content.
