Re Remember Tomorrow - Pamela Hatton's brief one book foray into HPlandia is a back from the dead without zombification wrecki angstfest extravaganza. I LOVE back from the dead stories. I don't think this minor HP trope gets enough air time, so please forgive me my enthusiasm, even tho this one has plot holes you can drive a lorry through.

This one starts with the h returning from Paris after a necessary escape from her evil conniving family and the equally obnoxious guy that her family is pushing her to marry. The h's family is wealthy and it all stems from the big engineering firm her step-grandfather owns which is currently under attack by some serious bad press and accusations of dirty dealings.

The h isn't involved in her step-father's business, tho her mother makes Machiavelli look like a pathetic amateur when in it comes to sneaky, backroom deals and burying the bodies for the sake of her second husband's firm. The h owns a boutique and one of the reasons for her sudden flight to Gay Paree to hang with some school friends is that her family, especially her mother and grandfather, are pushing her to marry the family firm's second in command after the grandfather and the step-father.

The h doesn't want to. In fact she is actually getting ready to dump the guy who keeps getting foisted on her because when she talked about forming a partnership to expand her boutique into a fashion empire, he told her under no circumstances was she to have an silly idears of having her own business.

She is going to be too busy being his doormat and hostess and broodmare to have any life of her own. Since the h hadn't even been proposed to, she told him to lump it and took the red eye to Paris. When the book opens, the h is fielding calls from mummy dearest, (and ickily she does call her mother mummy,) her step grandfather has had a heart attack and is currently in hospital.

The h takes herself off to see step gramps and we also find out that the other reason she isn't into the next generation heir apparent to the step family firm is that she is still grieving for the loss of the love of her life. They were in a car accident 18 months earlier and she made it and he did not. Or at least that is what mummy dearest told her.

The h is hurrying thru the hospital and turns a corner and runs smack into a wheelchair. To her amazement the guy in the chair is her dead true love. After a moment of pinching herself to make sure she isn't hallucinating, she goes chasing after him, only to see him get into a car and take off. The h then passes out in the best traditions of HP h's everywhere.

When she comes to, she is convinced she has had a mental break up, but something about mummy dearest's comments and her continual beratement of the love of her life's old news editor makes the h start to wonder. It seems the H's old news editor is behind all the recent scathing press attacks on the step family firm. Mummy dearest is livid and practically foaming at the mouth, so the h, who has never been able to talk about her deep and intense grief with anyone in her family, decides to go look the editor up and maybe she can talk to someone who actually remembered her H fondly.

Except when she gets to the editor's office, he tells the h that the H is still alive and gives her his address. The H is living at his deceased uncle's remote North England home and the h sets out to find him. She manages to put her car into the ditch right outside the H's big, but needing work, house and when she gets into see him, not only is he NOT over joyed to be reunited with his lost true love, he has got another really beautiful and obviously intimate partner OW with him. He is on crutches too, but the h barely notices that. All she can she is the totally gorgeous 'interior designer' who incidentally happens to be his ex fiance.

The h is hurt, confused and trying to explain her side of the situation. But the H is harsh, accusatory and forces her to stay for a few days so he can extract some vengeance for her running out on him by rubbing his OW in her face. He also has been writing the negative articles about the step-family firm. So much damage has been done from the articles that the firm is under formal investigation.

The h just doesn't understand, and understands even less when she finds out the H is now a best selling political thriller author too. The H gleefully informs the h that her step-families' firm was responsible for stealing his uncle's engineering designs and putting him out of business, so the H plans to do expose after expose on all their dirt and he hopes everyone suffers and not even the h impaling herself on his sword is going to save them.

This strikes a chord with the h, cause the name of the H's dead uncle was one her mother mentioned that she had worked for before she started an affair with her current husband while cheating on the h's father. It did not register with the h at first, because when her parent's divorced, her eight yr old self wanted to stay with her dad - she isn't a big fan of mummy dearest- but he died in an accident a month after the divorce was final.

So the h had to go to a boarding school that she hated until mummy dearest realized the h was intractable and put her in a boarding school she liked better. Her sister is a big fan of mummy dearest, so needless to say she thinks the h is nuts for not living it up in luxury and letting mummy dearest marry her off to whomever is the highest bidder, much like mummy dearest did for the sister herself. The sister is married to a rich alcoholic, but needless to say the money makes up for a lot of binges.

The h is finally beginning to realize that maybe the H wasn't all that into her 18 months earlier, he must have been lurving her up to get step family firm information. But she was in love and now she is hurting even more. I felt really bad for her, her pain was pretty palpable. The h also realizes that the H is planning to pursue some serious revenge and must have gotten the company information from someone else, cause she was so interested in the lurve club mojo that she never told him anything about the company. Also she has never been involved with the step family firm, she made sure she went her own way as soon as she graduated.

So with the h's car out of commission, the h is force to endure the H, his OW and the isolation of the North of England. The h is vacillating between love and misery and hate and things finally come to a head when the h has a nightmare about the car crash, the H wakes her up and they start fighting again. The h throws coffee at him and panics when she thinks she has burned him. She floods the bathroom and rips off his clothes to apply cold compresses. The H isn't burned, but he is burning and they are just succumbing to the lurve mojo when the OW walks in.

It was hilarious, cause she has been the typical HP OW witch and the h is the one who is getting it on with the H while the OW was sleeping next door. The OW leaves in a big huffy slink and the H and h spend the night lurving it up on the purple shores of passion.

The h takes the H to his doctor's appointment the next day and they have a little picnic too, but the h believes that the H's articles were responsible for the collapse of her grandfather and the guilt over loving a man she should be hating is taking it's toll. The h's car is finally fixed and the h tries one more time to convince the H that she honestly thought he had died.

The H practically kicks the h out of his house and also drops the bomb that it was the h's mother who told him that the h was dumping him while he was still fighting for his life, so he has every reason to believe that the h is just trying to buy his silence with her body at her mother's behest. The h is shocked and leaves the H, she is off to confront her mother.

She hunts mummy dearest down and we find out about mummy dearest's affair, the fact that she stole the H's Uncle's plans and gave them to the h's step-father to use and that she deliberately lied to the h 'for her own good' and drove the off the H to boot. We also find out that the company information the H has been publishing in his articles came from the h's sister, whom the H actually seduced first and he was into an adulterous affair with the sister when he met the h.

The h has no words for the evil vileness of mummy dearest, the step family, her sister and the H and walks out. Then the OM the family is pushing on the h shows up at her flat and starts in on her. She tells him to leave but he has to make nasty comments about the H using her and hang around and won't go away. The h just ignores him and gets ready for her company's first big fashion show. Several days later the H shows up to talk to the h and get another chance and she lets him have it in spades.

The h confronts him about wall banging with her sister and then seducing her, and then trying to use her for information and not believing her when she tried to tell her side of the story. The H says he now totally believes the H because he and the OM got into a fight when the OM showed up at the H's house looking for the h, and he confirmed that the h was told the H was dead. The H supposedly never hammered the sister, he just enticed her a bit to get information and now he wants to start over, cause the h's mother is sorta sorry for being a thief and a manipulator. The h doesn't care, she has a business to run and she hates everybody. So she kicks him to the curb and goes on her mopey way.

Thus follows several months of mopey moments and the h's big push to be a fashion purveyor success. The OM proposes, the h is like 'Not even at the Heat Death of the Universe" but the OM also apologizes for berating the H, cause the OM lied about the H saying he used the h and he bullies the h into letting her estranged family come to the h's big fashion show and grand boutique opening. He also confides that the H's articles did not cause the step gramp's heart attack, the old goat has had a bad ticker for several years and needs to retire.

The OM seems to be falling for the h's designer business partner, and the opening day fashion extravaganza finally arrives. It is a big success and the h is informed that mummy dearest is on the edge of a nervous breakdown, cause the h refused to even go to the step family's house for Christmas.

Mummy dearest looks suitably haggard and haunted and the h only smiles icily at her and then turns away. The step gramps confides that he knows all about the plans that mummy dearest stole, but he thinks guarding the family name is more important than anything, even to the point of ruining a good man and friend, (the H's uncle,) and he doesn't care. He wants the h to find out when the H is going to drop the press bombshell that mummy dearest was engaged in corporate espionage and then the OW shows up and introduces the h to her fiance, who is NOT the H. The OW never got her chance at the H's lurve club, cause the h climbed on first. The h decides she needs the H and sets off to go see him.

She goes to the H's house, and mutual apologies and big declarations of true lurve forever ensue. The H confesses that he hasn't published the truth about mummy dearest cause he did not want to hurt the h. The h and H agree to marry and are riding the Tower of Power and planning partial rotten family forgiveness, (at least for the wedding presents,) in exchange for cozy connubial bliss for the HEA.

This one was a bit messy, and there were some dangling plot holes that I tried to fill in on this spoilerization based on what I think PH was trying to say. Whether the H actually slept with the h's sister or not is pretty much up to the reader, cause first he says he did not and then he says after he was with the sister, he could understand if the h couldn't forgive him - but it was the way he said it that made me wonder if that was some kind of Freudian slip.

There was also some awkward scene jumps and some unusual time conflicts, but overall there was a lot of really good angst, the h did her best to use her backbone and was actually a lot less TSTL than the average HP h. I liked this one and as long as you aren't too picky about logical plot points and can fill in some blanks, this is a good day's outing in HPLandia.

Boogenhagen's review is comprehensive, but I wanted to toss out a 3 star rating with a 4 star heroine.

I love this heroine. She's a little on the cranky side but when you are faced with a backstabbing manipulative mother, a pushy wannabe fiancee, an accusatory and downright mean back-from-the-dead ex, and a whole bunch of other useless relatives what can you expect? She maintains her spine of steel far longer than most Harlequin heroines ever do even though she ultimately succumbs. She confronts her mother about some serious manipulation and the mother is the one that backs down and declines, and she tosses the H's weebly wobbly apology scornfully back in his face and HE goes into a decline as well.

I don't see a long term HEA for these two as the family dynamics are going to make ever holiday just too awkward.

The h should emigrate to Greece and find herself a nice Greek tycoon that can dish out the manipulation and revenge.

The title is as nonsensical as this story – but nevertheless carries an emotional truth that the best kinds of melodrama deliver.

The hero (back from the dead) has been wronged.
His uncle (dead dead) was the original sinned against.
The heroine (on the verge of a nervous breakdown, then, now and forever) has been wronged by:
her evil mother (stealing documents, telling lies)
step grandfather (heart attack from guilt)
stepfather (clueless)
the hero (revenge mode)
her sister (slutty)

But let’s not remember any of that! Remember tomorrow – that land of HEAs and future awkward family gatherings. This group is fully lubricated (lemonade in brandy, really?) at all times. Helpful servants bring food that isn’t eaten and a sure sign of guilt/repentance/new information is a haggard face and weight loss. (I wish the melodrama diet worked for me.)

Heroine really makes this one – even though her best option would have been witness protection and a whole new life without her awful family.

Boogenhagen and Vintage have all the details of this angsty, vintage funhouse ride.

Not bad. But nothing spectacular.
A young couple falls in love, he doesn't want to tell he's investigating her family firm to avenge his beloved uncle. They get into a car crash, they are both injured and she's told he's dead.
Two years later she accidently sees him in a wheelchair.
Now they distrust each other and are looking for nefarious motives.

This one was frustrating. It was like it would never end with the hostility they had for each other. I for one would have tried to find out what the problem was long before just so I could get on with my life. Don't read this one if you don't want to read a lot of arguing. Skip over this one and move on. It would be so much betterin the long run, I promise you.
