I would like to thank Edelweiss and F+W Media Inc for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review
This is a well researched introduction into researching Irish ancestors in America. There's a plethora of information on Irish history and on researching ancestors. I found this interesting as I have Irish relations and although I'm not American, family legends say that I have family that immigrated to America. The book is aimed at Americans but the information can be used by non-Americans.
Very good introduction for those who have Irish ancestry. Ideas on how to get started on genealogy, a short bit on Irish history and loads of resources listed. Great starting point for Americans of Irish descent, and helpful information for those who may have even hit intermediate or above levels of family research.
Excellent research book by Claire Santry that gives the reader/researcher a lot of tools to search through Irish records, including many obscure but useful sites. The Appendices at the end have many resources that you can access. My copy is heavily underlined and highlighted to use as I search from my elusive Irish ancestors. A great resource.
I can’t say enough about this book. It exceeded my expectations and then some. I thought I had a good grasp on Irish research...boy was I wrong. This book gives me hope of breaking down a 10 year brick wall. This is a must have for any Irish researcher.
Irish genealogy can be confusing but I appreciate a well-laid-out manual that takes the time to explain some of the basic details. Lots of good websites to help with research
This book is good for beginners. It’s focused on Americans with Irish ancestors, rather than just understanding Irish records or searching from other locations e.g., the UK. Several tables are helpful to understand the organization of counties and other relevant information.
