SANTA FE RAILWAY by Steve Glischinski is one of the best railway photo books. Whether black and white or color, steam or diesel, the photos are informative, compelling, and tied together by the author's highly informed prose. One drawback: little attention is paid to the on-board experience. There is one reproduction of a Fred Harvey dining-car menu and a couple of timetables, in fact, but no reproductions of the insides of "El Capitan" chair cars or "Super Chief" Pullman cars. Still, a highly desirable book, and the paperback comes at a good price.
