Based on the writings of one victim, an attractive, successful woman with severe depression and no childhood memories, this firsthand glimpse at the healing process follows her history of physical and mental abuse, prostitution, and murder.
This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read. I have been an early childhood teacher for years, and spent many hours volunteering with CPS, the Children's Advocacy Center, and anywhere that I feel helps make the lives of children better. This book is one that I think of often when I wonder if I should go on with what I do, and after thinking about this book, the answer is clear!!! The only think I can say, is before you crack the cover of this book, make sure you have about a dozen boxes of tissue handy. I will warn you have it doesn't hold much back, but am a strong believer that sometimes you need to know the whole truth, however shocking or sickening. This is a must read!
This is the book that was turned into a movie called the secret path. The writing was hard for me to stay focused on. I do have to say I enjoyed the movie much more than the book.
Well, what can you say really? A true story of one little girls' incredible journey through horrendous sexual abuse. The chapters alternate between client and therapist which allows you to see both perspectives which is nice. Sad to see what cruel people exist in the world.
