If you thought volume 1 was crazy, read volume 2. It only gets crazier.

The bridge everyone is trying to get over to get out of town cuts in half were the strange barrier begins, causing a lot of people's death and the loss of all the cars they were driving. The Pickett's son first chops off his father's fingers by accident, trying to free him from his cuffs, then he accidentally shoots his father. A bear gets kicked in the testes, a man dies from misery caused by his wife nagging at him, a man pees himself., etc. The list is endless.

To sum this story up: Little town gets in an extraordinary situation, people react extraordinary.
It's great fun, a quick read and it always keeps you interested.

The arrival of the military suggests that the threat is known. Trapped from leaving town, the survivors start to split up in the attempt to seek alternative exits. Each side quest is accompanied by numerous conflicts. As other reviewers have pointed out, these conflicts could have been avoided if the characters didn't persist on keeping secrets.

If you are following along behind me, you might wonder why I'd read this one after writing what I wrote for the previous volume in this series. Simple. I had bought the entire series before starting.

Okay then. It had been hinted at in the prior volume, and hasn't been completely confirmed in this one, but the assumption could probably have been accepted from the beginning. They are in a dome like situation, An egg like invisible barrier that surrounds the entire town. Reflective on one side, see through on the inside.

So, many many naked women running around trying to either kill other women, fuck men, and, in their spare time, eat the dead. Well, occasionally. Mostly taking the dead back to the giant sperm that's in the cornfield. All this while everyone is trapped within a giant egg. Yay?

Man, every bloody time someone said 'it's going to be okay . . it's just going to be okay' I wanted to punch someone. Maybe not the writers, but it's a close call. I mean, they are the ones writing the words. But they are also the ones who show how stupid it is to keep saying that so . . ..

You know, this might have been an interesting series back when I didn't know what I was getting myself involved with. Naked woman. Man finds her. She may or may not be an alien. She may or may not be someone who escaped from psycho sexual perverts. All was possible by the end of the first issue. Start of the second issue changed all that when the clones appeared. Ah well.

I will, of course, continue reading this series. I mean, I already own it, so I must. I'd suggest others save themselves. But hey, I don't know, maybe everything will pick up over the next two volumes. Perhaps.

OK, so this volume was good. We get to know more about the characters, the plot gets a bit more fun to read.

A lot is happening in this volume! Like the story is moving forward and getting crazy! Hectic! Naked alien chick everywhere! Damn! Thanks, Lester. And Ethan.

The situation now is that the military is involved and they are trying to make a sense of it all, and I'm sure will contact the people stuck inside the dome. People of the town aren't aware yet that they are trapped in a dome from the world, but they do discover that soon in this volume.
The characters are well annoying at times some are too hot-headed and can't think straight or are just too dumb, like the cornfield kid. Don't get me started on that guy... he is just...🤦🏻‍♀️
They split up into two groups one goes to investigate if they can go out of town from a different route after the bridge collapsed and discovers they are stuck in a dome. One of the fellows is annoying and kicks a giant bear in the groin and gets bitten then he again lost his mind and shouts at the cornfield kid who has a rifle in hand btw and just creates a ruckus rather than solving anything. The police guy is annoyed and I think he shouts out to people to be quite a lot because the people here, in this town, are very bad at situations like this. Like c'mon get it together folks!! Think!
Meanwhile, the other group has a whole other situation going on. The women in this small town are something. Seriously, many situations could be avoided if they just paused for a minute and planned on surviving rather than being hot-headed and just annoying. The threat is on them so they need protection. And I get all the feminism thing but still, they should have patience at the most. Although men should have involved the women in town by planning things together. They are creating so many complications unnecessarily. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It has been a fun read so far. I am not getting where this might go but I do sense something important is going to be showcased here.

I do recommend reading this series. It's fast-paced and funny at times. To put it bluntly, it's entertaining, so it's not gonna be a boring read.

This book is just messed up! The first arc, I used a lot of WTF to describe the story as I did not want to get into spoilers and I will try to do the same in this second arc. However, saying that, I really had to slog through this second arc. Not because of the central mystery (which I honestly find is somewhat losing it's momentum...and just entering the realm of WTF for the sake of it), but because most of the characters are just annoying, and really terrible people that I don't mind them being killed off, they just suck:

1) The world, is small town (really small) America and the population is diverse, and many are stereotypes which I don't really fancy but I'll get into that in the character section. The world is rural America with the crazy WTF twist of the Girls and that's about it. The map at the beginning of each issue is good to show where the action is taking place, but the world is nothing special except for the central mystery of the WTF stuff.

2) The story in this second arc is pretty much a survival story, but it's not really told well and also not paced well. The action is chaotic as it is expected and the feeling of WTF and not knowing what the hell is going on is very prevalent in the story (which I think is intentional), but it's the same thing for the entire arc and it gets tired really fast. The reveals that usually happen at the end of each issue are kind of interesting but the rest of the issue is just mindless running and whining. The final end in arc two is interesting but I've come to expect to think "WTF" anyways so...

3) The characters, God they all suck. They are whiney, selfish, stupid, hateful, and racist ignorant dumb asses and it makes me just honestly not care about them at all. In fact, there are times when I want to just with they would just meet their end so I don't need to hear them whine and bitch for the entire arc. It's terrible, the characters are just terrible.

I will continue to this series as I want to know what happens in the end, but honestly it is a really hard slog through right now, if the next arc is not crazy WTF or I start liking some of the characters, I don't think the central mystery is going to keep me interested enough to finish this series.

Onward to the next book!

Atmosféra v Pennystownu (zkuste si to jméno vyslovit nahlas 😉) houstne.

Celkově nejslabší díl - hodně užvaněné a postavy se chovají debilně. Ale houstnoucí atmosféra je vystavěna výborně. Příběh je stále temnější a tajemno správně dávkováno.

A small town is cut off by an invisible dome. Inside, the inhabitants start to turn on each other as they come under attack from...sexy naked ladies. Also a giant killer sperm. Either an intriguing horror lens through which to view the tension between culture and biology, or a Stephen King rip-off as conceived by Benny Hill. Quite possibly both.

Smalltown U.S.A. vs. some kind of alien invasion that gives the artist a reason to draw the same naked woman over and over and over again. Even though it came out in 2005, it has *not* aged well.

3 ESTRELLAS ☆☆☆

Sigue habiendo potencial.

It's ok so far. The artwork is simple and and hard to look at after a while. It's obvious it was done on a computer program. It was extremely irritating that scenes would be started on page and never resolved. If there was a point to that, it was lost on me.
And why are all the people in a small farming community so goddamn helpless? These people are the salt of the earth. Self sufficient, resilient survivors who know how to live off the land. You're going to tell me only one of them owns a firearm? And why are all the men in this book weak, pathetic men? Clearly, the Luna Brothers don't know any small-town types.
Hopefully it will all make sense in the end.

I really enjoyed the Alex and Ada series, so I impulse bought the whole 4 volumes of this series, sure that I was going to like it. It's about murderous naked women, but that's practically all it's about. There's too much arguing, whiny characters and the plot is like one genuinely entertaining section amongst a whole graphic novel. It's basically a zombie outbreak story but they have added nudity and human looking aliens to the mix. So long story short, I'm not going to continue. I just don't care how this ends or if anyone or everyone dies.

Ok, that was a relief after the first volume. Really digging the storyline, but jeez the art is still all over the place and the writing... Meh... Still hoping for some actual interesting character development.

4 stars for the storyline, but art and writing 2 stars. Really great idea, not so great execution.

Fingers crossed that the volumes will keep getting better!

Given that the whole premise of this story is to vilify women, I can't say I particularly enjoyed these instalments. Perhaps this may have been viewed as a social commentary in its time, but it has not aged well and reads more like the female hating manifesto of the scorned white man. Really uncomfy. Will not be continuing.

The characters continue to be completely unlikeable. They almost feel like satire, but if that’s the case, it misses the mark. There’s just enough progression of the mystery to be interesting, though, and that carries the work.

I am starting to fear that this story is going nowhere.
I bought the 4 volumes as part of a Humble Bundle, so I am going to read them all. However, if I would have only bought the first volume or got it from the library, I would have stopped after the first volume.

This volume improves massively on the first, as we get to know the characters much better.
The pacing is great, group dynamics unravelling and and relationships disintegrating as the existential threat to the town becomes more clear.

Right. Okay.

I still think I'm in a very very weird dimension of the world when I'm reading this, but somehow in Emergence - Girls finally found it's identity. It feels like it finally had it's footing on groundwork that seems to show promise. Granted, the whole premise of the story is quite uncanny and unusual, but somehow with the brilliant storytelling the Luna brothers pull off, everything works. Aside from underutilizing the borrowed plot points from the first volume, in Emergence - well Girls really emerged. It adopted to the environment the first volume laid out and made its magic from there. I'm still a bit quirky about the whole naked alien girls running around to fuck boys for them to lay eggs and multiply just so they can kill women and bring their corpses to a sperm egg shaped spaceship though, but yea, it works alright? ;)

The plot thickens in the second installment to a four part sci-fi horror tale from the Luna brothers. A tale of a small town isolated by a dome (pre-"Under the Dome") and a growing army of naked female clones that attack all the Human women is as campy as you could get conceptually, but it's all played with a straight face with very poignant results.

This is fascinating, atmospheric fiction that utilizes its characters well and manages to make you think. The Luna brothers continue to make some risky points about gender- as they did with the first volume- but I think they might actually be tackling the darker aspects of humanity in general and just different ways those aspects are expressed.

Ok. About the same really. The action made it somewhat interesting but the dialogue is still terrible. The only thing this has going for it is the "mystery" I will probrably finish it just because i'm curious how this ends. And to get my numbers up on my goal. And I cringe at the sexism, both male and female. Jesus this is bad. Only gets 3 stars because "decent" art and "somewhat interesting" storyline.

The Luna Brothers, Jonathan and Joshua, do an excellent job of providing beautifully rendered art, and above average character development and realistic conversations and engagements among the populace of a small town who experience and discover something frightening and troubling about themselves, and by extension ourselves.

This is the weirdest story ever, and I love every second of it. It's not perfect by any means, but it's unique and interesting and addicting. I'm still supremely confused with the plot, but I'm supposed to be. The characters have no idea what's going on, so neither do I.

I can't wait to read the next issues.

I kept waiting for this to get good, but it never happened. Thank the gods I only bought the first two trades instead of the whole collection. I hated everything about this series, yet I read it until the end because I thought there might be a decent payoff. There wasn't. Don't waste your time.

I have to just remove this from my "currently reading" shelf. While I found the first one to be fairly interesting in the beginning, this just isn't holding my attention, so I give up. Luna brothers, you did much, much better with "Ultra."
