2,500 years ago, aspiring meditators had to scale treacherous mountains to find a guru who might guide them to spiritual awakening. Today’s spiritual practitioners have a much different problem: The marketplace is supersaturated with books, blogs, teachers, centers, and workshops—all who seem to champion a proprietary set of authentic meditative practices. My intent is to write a series, yes. I'm just warbling about the structure. Samatha is easy to isolate into its own book because the practice has clear "bookends." However, many other contemplative practices start blurring together.

For instance, the next book will be about vipassana. Explaining it and describing core techniques is easy enough, but once you start listing the applications you realize that it blurs into centering prayer and many other practices that might have seemed initially unrelated. So I'm torn about if I should keep them all independent or be inclusive and blur them together. Leaning towards the former. What do you think?(less)

Refreshingly practical. I've flipped through similar guides before, but they rarely answer the one question I actually have: What are you actually DOING in meditation? In the most technical sense, what are you changing?

Grateful for the answer :)
