The Trip Back and Fairy Tale by Robert Olen Butler
Outlandish, great stories

The Trip Back

In the first of these two short stories, the one taking the Trip Back is an old Vietnamese man.
A much younger man is waiting for him at the airport.
His wife is the granddaughter of the old gentleman.
The Vietnamese seem to have a veneration for the older generations.
To add to that respect, the woman, when she was a little girl was raised without a father and the grandfather played that role as well.
