My sister wrote this book! So proud of her! It has absolutely impacted my marriage in a positive way. It has made me a more caring wife. I am now more thoughtful of my husband's needs and my marriage is happier and more enjoyable. I have read this many times and still get convicted of ways I can further bless my husband and be a great wife.

It is not always a comfortable read, it is too honest for that, but it is always thought-provoking and engaging. The conversational style is often humorous a
At my wedding shower the host had guests write down advice and quotes on marriage on cards to be bound together to be given to me. One of them was from Albert Einstein, “Men marry women with the hope they will never change. Women marry men with the hope they will change. Invariably they are both disappointed.” Many women think before they get married that they will be able to change all the things about their fiancé they don’t like after they are married and continue to think so after their marr ...more

After 52 years of marriage, I thought I knew it all. To be honest, I've read my fair share of how-to books on the subject. But surprisingly, after only a few pages, I found out that I needed a good refresher course, and along the way I also discovered there was more to learn. New ways of looking at things and new ways to handle age-old situations.
We all know that men and women are different on the outside, but we usually don't take the time to figure out how we are different on the inside, oth

This book is written with the idea in mind that if you want improve your marriage you will need to take action to improve yourself. Often we think to improve our marriage we need to change our spouse. However the only one we can change is ourselves. You will find that as you implement Sally's principles and make changes to your thought process and attitude that your husband will reciprocate-it may take time and prayer but it is worth. I highly recommend this book to any wife wanting to improve h ...more

It has been a long time since I picked up a non-fiction book and found it hard to put down. This book is an easy-to-read account of one person's journey through the first (almost 20) years of marriage. It is written in such a personable manner that you would be forgiven for thinking you were sitting, chatting with the author herself. It is challenging, to say the least, as it never once mentions what your husband can do for you. Instead, you are encouraged to put aside your own needs and think s ...more

I really loved this book!
This is a Christian book designed to help change YOU in your marriage, not to fix your husband.
While it goes against ALOT of what society tells us is right in a marriage, it has made a huge impact on my 'wifely' ways. I have enjoyed praying over the changes i make and also acting on the changes, seeing God change me.
I have become more prayerful and specifically so even over small issues, seeking God first rather than being a nagging wife over tiny issues.
It really feels

This was a really great book for Christian wives. You feel like you are sitting down with Sally (the author) and having a really encouraging, meaningful chat about marriage. It is all based on the Bible with Bible verses quoted and discussed. Sally also shares a lot of her own experiences too.

After I read it I felt empowered to really enjoy my marriage. Many Christian wives may feel it is difficult to be a godly wife and also meet the world's expectations for women to be assertive and put men i

This is a must-read book for every new wife with great insights for a more "seasoned" wife!
We all make mistakes and some of us even learn from them. Sally has not only learned from them, but she has been enlightened by them. In That Book for Wives, Sally shares her enlightenment with every person who reads her book. She is a great story-teller and many of her stories and examples had me laughing out loud and were precisely on point.
The way Sally has organized this book into four sections is geni

What a refreshing and inspiring book to read! Using her own experience Sally shares four timeless principles for strengthening and enjoying marriage. This is written in an easy to read manner that stirs the heart and challenges complacency. A must read for every wife who needs encouragement and wisdom to work for the good of their marriage.

As a pastor's wife and women's ministry leader, women come to me in search of practical and biblical advice for the issues they face in real life. Sally’s book offers valuable insight for the role of a wife. Within these pages, she helps us reset our thinking to faith-based principles. Vulnerable about her own marital journey, Sally tackles authentic areas to help a wife flourish in her marriage.

This book got me thinking! It's a light, bright and breezy read but it challenged my thinking because it's not at all how I think! It presents solutions for having a good marriage that are different to how my husband and I operate. Many are not solutions that I would advocate personally - my husband and I have a marriage based on mutual love for each other and respect for each other - it's very much a two-way street. I have a voice, opinions, strengths, preferences... which are just as valid as ...more

I read a draft of this book a few years ago, and it competed changed the way I viewed married life. I can honestly say it helped repair a lot of damage done over the 6 years I had been in a relationship. I recently read the published copy and was again reminded on how I could make my marriage stronger, and healthier. It is simple, to the point, and easy to read. I wish it was as simple to apply it all!! While it was a short- and for me, confronting- read, it has been a longer journey applying it ...more

Total and complete honesty is the only way to describe Sally Poyzer's book, That Book for Wives. It is a must read for every blushing bride-to-be. Her down-to-earth accounts of areas in her own marriage that needed a little work is both refreshing and entertaining. I love that she has wrapped the Word of God around her viewpoints and challenges all wives to raise the bar in their marriage (not on their husbands)! She has packed tons of references into each chapter that allows readers to go furth ...more

Thank you Sally for writing That Book for Wives. A book which serves to improve one's marriage by first aiming to improve oneself - with Gods gracious help! Sally's insightful, encouraging and humorous writing style kept me flipping the pages night after night. I highly recommend this book to any wife wanting to improve herself and, in turn, her marriage.

I've read hundreds of books on marriage over the last 35 years (since I got engaged to my husband) and this one was one of the best and one I will re-read. Its truths are presented beautifully and made easy reading. The author has distilled much of what I have learnt about marriage over the years into one very helpful book, one I highly recommend.

My favourite book on marriage. Written in a non-judgmental tone. Very edifying book that inspires you to want to apply the principles and be a better wife. Convicts gently. I highly recommend for wives striving to lead Godly lives aligned with biblical values.

I took a few months to read it, for every part of the book I took some time to practice before I moved to the next part. And honestly, this book has opened my eyes! I love it and I'll read it every time I feel lost. At least that's what I've been doing! It is a huge help, this book isn't hard to read or understand. Yes, you do indeed need to be open minded, especially the way women carry themselves these days. It was definitely a good read and such a big help these past few months (and hopefully ...more

As a child I was raised to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Luke 6:31) but it is wisdom to know and realize that your mate is a male and may not want or need what you as a woman want or need. This book is full of good, biblically sound advice and examples on how to grow, safeguard and strengthen your marriage. It's also about how to grow yourself in the process as well. Interestingly, I found that many of the points in this book can be applied to other relationships in our li ...more

I actually really enjoyed this book. Though some of the opinions I may not have agreed with while reading them, once she explained them, and I sat and thought with an open mind, I could see the other side of things. I have to admit that once I thought about certain aspects, I even changed my opinion on some of them. Definitely a book to read with an open mind, but truly a great read.

This book will be a book that I’ll continually look to as a guide for my marriage as well as the Bible. It’s got such great godly wisdom on being the wife God wants wives to be. Absolutely love the vulnerable truth Sally shares about her own mistakes she’s made as a wife too and what we can do as wives to love our husbands best through 4 simple but super important actions. It’s just so relatable!

I really enjoyed reading this, though I won’t say that it was an “easy” book. Unfortunately, doing the right thing in a marriage is something that takes work and humility, and as the author pointed out, it means doing these things regardless of what your husband does. Ouch!

I’m so glad no punches were pulled here. The author shared the truth about how wives should behave towards their husband in a way that was honest and helpful. She provided an easy way to remember what she shared and filled the

I enjoyed reading this book – the author has an easy conversational style and it’s like having a chat with her. There’s some great research in this book – concise, easy to follow and helps give the ‘male perspective’. The book is broken into sections to address four main areas.
Sally points out how the biblical perspective on marriage differs from society in several areas – including respect. Our society teaches respect must be earned; God teaches it is to be given. Society often teaches about ha

I am 55 years old and been married 35 years, and have read many books on marriage and counseled women about marriage. I cannot recommend Sally Poyzer's book enough. 'That Book for Wives' is written from a Christian perspective and gets straight to the point that many women will be dealing with their marriage issues with very little if any help from their husbands. Not because their men are not reasonable people, but because men are wired differently. Sally deals with the issue of taking responsi ...more

“That Book For Wives” is a must read for women who are engaged and newly married. There is even value in those of us who have been married a decade, two or more. Poyzer is correct in her conclusion that for some women the thought of doing all the work to make the marriage successful while watching the husband sit by and do nothing is sour. Wives need to put total faith in God that the good efforts will be reflected back when the husbands reap the rewards. I especially liked Poyzer’s description ...more

Sally Poyzer gives us THAT BOOK FOR WIVES, a well-written, comprehensive, but easy to read and understand primer every wife should read. She writes with a true love of God, knowledge of scripture, experience, sense of humor, and a charming Australian accent. She tells us to focus on ourselves as wives, and not to try to “fix” our husbands. I have been married nearly 50 years, and I learned a lot from these pages. I urge all wives to read this book—it will change your marriage for the better. I w ...more

What a great resource for wives! I wish I'd had this book years earlier, but even now, after being married for over two decades, its principles ring true. Poyzer's insights are Scripturally sound and well thought out. She is candid and open about her own struggles and encourages wives to make changes in their approach to their husbands in order to enhance their marriage and their husbands' love for them. This book would make a wonderful wedding gift.
