A Practice Wife is defined as; a woman who a man dates right before he settles down with someone else, and Misha London has had three exes, who within months of breaking up with her, got married. Misha, the only daughter of religious parents, cleaned up Carson Rivers for two years, improving him from head to toe, forgiving his bad sides and focusing on his good sides. And just like two of her former boyfriends, Carson is getting married. But instead of getting married within a year or even a month of breaking up, Carson is getting married the very next day, and Misha finds out on Facebook. At 44 years old, Misha is devastated. She yearns to be married with children, and has even gone through the process of freezing her eggs. Will she no longer be the bridesmaid, not wife material, destined to be what her best friend calls, happily single? Maybe that wouldn't be so bad after all. But then, in walks handsome, single father, Dr. Devonta Hill.

This is my first time reading this author’s work. I must say I was hooked after chapter 3. I could identify with some of the Birmingham streets due to living there for 2 years. It had some twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I will definitely start reading more of this authors work! Great Job!
This book was thought provoking. The characters were well developed and relatable. It appears the author did a lot of research, as the process of IVF was informative. There were so many issues dealt with, but they all came together cohesively. I loved the chapters and the titles. The counseling with Misha's pastor was enlightening. That the author used 9/11 to memorialize another tragic event, and even brought in the President and current issues was creative and added more realism to the book. This book was way more than I thought it would be; touching, warm and profound. I loved the family relationships, especially with her brother. The lesson learned by the parents was sad, but it opened their eyes. Loved this book. I will be reading more of this author's work.
This was an excellent story about finding love in spite of a person's flaws and imperfections. Ms. Monteilh did an excellent job of digging into the desires and dreams of the individuals, while allowing them to grow through their flaws.
Loved this book. It takes you through all the emotions having you laugh, cry, saying Amen to the Pastor's sermon, and singing along with the music that the characters listen too. Misha London is tired of being the practice wife so she decides to do something about it. The story takes you through her personal experiences with the men her family and friends. I am never disappointed when I pick up a book from Marissa Monteilh. I started reading her books in 2009. I was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book spoke to me on so many different levels. It filled me with so many different emotions from happy to sad to utterly heartbroken. It is a wonderful story of being a practice wife for men who turn around and marry someone else. A man will truly only be with one he feels he can't live without no matter how you felt in relationship. This story also shows that God is truly in control an works things in his timetable and all you think you don't have God will bless you with them substantially.
This is an unusual story that I found to be both hilarious and moving at the same time. Poor Misha London, her boyfriends breaks with her over the phone because his wedding is the next day..say what now? In walks Dr. Devonta Hill. who has more sketchiness that one can shake a stick at. Can Misha look past his crazy baby momma, and weird kids t find her happy every after? You'll have to read it and find out. This book makes me want to read more by this author.
This book had a great story line. It opens your mind up to how many relationships we all have went through to prepare us for the right one. It also shows the pain families go through when losing a love one when things are unfinished. The storyline also showed the hatred there is in the world for all cultures and races. I loved the book. An amazing story with some what of a cliffhanger.
I just finished this book. It was amazing how much I could relate to some of what Misha went. through. Im taking inventory on myself. All I can say is thank you Ms. Marissa for such an enlightening book and for shedding light for many women that have been the "Practice Wife," but won't admit it. This is a must read, a definite page turner.
I enjoyed reading The Practice Wife. The characters are all relatable. You will have all kinds of emotions. The story is deep, spiritual, emotionally driven and so much more. Get the book, you won't be disappointed.
**I received a copy of the book from the author for an honest review.**
The Practice Wife is a good read. This book will take you through lots of different emotions. The title of the book fits the storyline perfectly. I look forward to reading more by this author.
It warmed my heart to read Dr. Devonta Hill and Misha London’s love story. Devonta was a true man in my opinion. No matter how much Misha turned him down after the start of their short-lived romance, he didn’t stop pursuing her. His pursuit was pure genuine and wasn’t just until he was able to win the chase. Devonta loved Misha, so much that he was even willing to undo a procedure he had done years before in order to give her what she wanted…a child. This book will take you on a whirlwind of emotions. From the painful realization that her boyfriend of two years – Carson Rivers – had broken up with her to marry another woman (the second time this had happened to Misha), to finally getting what she wanted at the end with a tremendous loss that rocked her world. There was never a dull moment with this book. I truly enjoyed the Practice Wife and learned about a term that is obviously circling around. Grab this book and read Misha’s story. You will not be disappointed. It’s a true page-turner that may just have you evaluating your own relationship.
This book was so good! Loved the fact that it wasn't the typical drug dealer abused girlfriend book. Not that there's anything wrong with that but this was definitely a welcome change. It was so relatable and I'm right down the road from Birmingham so it was cool that I knew some of the places mentioned in the book. I loved that Devonta was successful and he was portrayed like a real character. He already had kids which most people do these days and Misha was definitely on a rollercoaster ride of men and emotions but she found her happy ending even though it didn't come easy.
I loved this book! From the beginning to the end. Misha got on my nerves with her indecisive self and treating that good man like that! And when I tell you I cried like a baby reading about Chanman and Giovanni! The ending definitely left room for a sequel. I hope Misha gets her trifling self together and her man forgives her and puts a baby in her!
This was my first read from this author and I was impressed. I wasn't sure what to expect from this read because I didn't actually read the book description first, I just went off of the name. It was so much more than I expected it to be and I loved the character
Deep, interesting, well written, thought provoking and a bit sad. Loved this read. . PRACTICE MAKES BETTER. Not perfect but perfect for your perfect mate.
DNF 40% I had two issues with this book. First and foremost, the dialog. Book imparted too much information through dialog, and it came off, at least to me, as unnatural and forced. Now, couple this with stilted first person narrative that is overwhelmed with unnecessary details. I think author at least should've read her book out loud .
H:"I'd love that.Giovanni ( brothers husband) isn't a sports fan?" Brother: "Not until basketball season. You know he's from L.A., so he's all about his Lakers." H:"I remember him telling me that.Purple and gold everything."
“How are you, doctor?” “I’m well. And you?” We proceeded down the hall. “I’m fine, thanks. Good to see you.” We went into a small room and she closed the door. “You can put your purse on the hook if you’d like, and then have a seat there, please.” She pointed to the padded table. I did both. She sat upon a stool. . . . Doctor:"Have your initial reasons for freezing your eggs changed? Tell me again why you wanted do it in the first place?" H:"When I first met you it was more then six years ago. I think the embryologist froze about forty eggs, right?"
And second issue was too much Lord everywhere. But this one was personal because I am not religious. I understand that others can be very religious and that God can be in forefront of their mind, but constantly referring to Lord and biblical quotations are a bit too much for me. The best part could have been how to reconcile IVF and religious beliefs, but it is barely touched upon.
So this one was not finished.Other readers, particularly those who are very religious Christians, might enjoy reading this if they can forgive too much unnecessary detail, not too stellar dialog and perhaps a bit judgy main character.
I have never read this Author's work before and I enjoyed it ! I bonded with Misha right away, I liked her and I rooted for her . When Devonta bumped into her I knew he was the one , at least I hoped he would be , because the author introduced him in a way , that let you know he was special , but like Misha I had my reservations . I cried a couple of times while reading this book because there is some real sadness in this story , but I laughed too , because it was equally funny . The author took me to church a few times but I didn't feel overwhelmed because it fit the story . I recommend you read this book , I believe you will enjoy it . 4.5 stars
This story has so many life lessons, I laughed & cried , I really enjoyed Misha’s story. The ending has me wanting a part two because I feel Carson is up to something . Love covers a multitude of sins & my heart go out to her parents because regret can be a tormenting thing .
Was hard to get into at first and difficult to follow. After I got into the characters it was easier to finish. I enjoyed it because I can relate to it. I only gave three stars because it was predictable at times.
This was my first read by this author. The storyline remained interesting & held my attention throughout. Misha's trials & tribulations with her relationships were well written. Situations presented were realistic & characters had good dialog. This is a great story I recommend all to read
The fairy tale says you must kiss the frogs and witches before you get to your Prince or Princess. This was very true in the case of Misha London and Dovonta Hill. A superb read with highs and lows, very realistic touching on all emotions. A must read.
I loved this book! The characters were hilarious and felt completely real. Even the titles of the chapters were funny. The later events made me cry but were handled delicately. I'll definitely be reading this author again
This was absolutely one of the best reads of this year and my first by this beautiful author. It reminded me of a relationship I had about 7 years ago and I now have a name for it. Thank God I was his practice because I did meet and marry a fine, fun and God loving man!
I really enjoyed this book. The story was right on point. I have friends that went through the same problem. I will be sharing this title with them. I will also read more books by this author. Loved it !!!
This is my first read by this author. I was engaged from beginning to end. This book was so raw and emotional and so real. The characters were relatable and story was well executed. I laughed and shed tears. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I've never heard the term, "Practice Wife" before reading Marissa's book. Of course, the title ties in very well with the material and truly brings to light the full definition of a practice wife. I enjoyed the book. The characters were vibrant, dynamic and well crafted. Kudos to Ms. Marissa!
