Chicago City Girl Tackles Colorado Mountains with Sexy, Reclusive Guide

Avery Oliver can see the byline now. What better way to jumpstart her journalism career than to head out into the woods with a sexy guide? It's all very Bear Grylls, but she'll take it, even if it means ditching her beloved designer suits and handbags.

Hooked on Love is book two in the Cotton Creek series by Jennie Marts. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and have not been influenced by any outside sources.

Jennie Marts has done it again with this book. I didn’t really know what to expect going in and wow, I ended up falling in love with this little gem of a romance.

4 stars!!

This was a very cute, mostly light-hearted contemporary romance.

What I liked a lot:

--the setting of Colorado and the little town, fishing on the river
--the hero Sully. He kind of reminded me of the usual heroines we get. His self esteem was in the toilet due to his ex-wife. He was a bit grumpy (but not OTT), sweet, protective, caring, helpful to others, very brave and super sexy. His strength, bravery and protectiveness (plus his sexy looks) made him VERY appealing as a hero!!

First I have to give a big thank you to Carol [Goodreads Addict] for bringing this book to my attention! I absolutely loved it! Sully is a fantastic hero and Avery is a wonderful heroine! This book is so well written! I could picture the town, the cabin, the river, etc and I loved how Sully and Avery got to know each other and how their relationship evolved. There is a woman that is interested in Sully, but it is clear he has no interest in her and it wasn't drama in my opinion. I will definitel ...more

Loved this book! Sully was unique and unlike a lot of other male main characters that I have read recently. He's self-conscience, a bit shy, easily embarrassed and he doesn't date or sleep around. His ex-wife did a number on him when she left, hurting him with her words and he hasn't been willing to put himself back out there with women. Everything changes for Sully when he agrees to give an interview for an outdoor magazine and Avery comes to spend a week with him learning to fish. The attracti ...more

Avery Oliver is every bit the city girl from Chicago wanting nothing more than to explore the world and experience new things. When Avery travels to the Colorado Mountains to follow a story to jumpstart her journalism career she finds herself teamed up with sexy guide Sullivan Reed.

Sullivan is a country boy through and through, all he needs is his fly rod and the rushing water of a river and he's happy so becoming a guide for Avery who is his exact opposite isn't at the top of his to do list. So

A cute and charming little romance that had me laughing out loud a couple of times.
"Get on outta here," he hollered, waving the bags at the bear.
"Yeah, go on, you old brown/black bear. You can't even make up your mind what color you are!"
"That's it. You tell her. I can tell she's already backing down - keep insulting the color of her coat - it seems to be working."

Avery was a pretty amazing heroine. I loved her straightforwardness, confidence and even her clumsiness, a character trait that usu

In the world of Journalism, we often take what we can and as a female we have to prove ourselves over and over again. Avery Oliver has been writing for an outdoor magazine and if she can prove that she can handle this current piece and do an awesome job, there is a possible promotion in line for her. Sullivan Reed loves and lives for the outdoors and ever since his wife left him and told him he was boring, the only companion he really has and trusts is his dog. Looking for a romantic comedy to get you week/weekend going. Then I suggest picking up a copy of Hooked on Love. My first read by this author and it was a high-flying home run or better yet the game winning touchdown with 3 seconds to go.

A simple, fly fishing, outdoorsy man and a ritzy, designer suit wearing city girl. Put them both together for the mutual benefit of both and you get a hilarious ride that was none stop all the way to the end. Sully, Sadie, and Avery have a great deal of outdoor

This is the first book by Jennie Marts that I've ever read and I really enjoyed it! I will definitely have to read more from her. Hooked on Love was a fun romance that had me laughing out loud more than once. It is part of her Cotton Creek series but can be read as a stand alone. I did not read the first book in the series and didn't feel lost or like I was missing anything at all.

I really loved Avery's character. I thought she was going to be an annoying stuck up city girl but she was really fu

Such a cute, fun, sexy story! I loved Sully and Avery was a hoot. Avery is a city girl to the core but she'll do anything to get her journalism career jump started. Even heading out into the woods with a sexy guide and fishing pole. Her guide isn't so eager to help her out though. Then opportunity comes around. Avery pretends to be Sully's girlfriend in exchange for his cooperation, that way she gets her story and he gets away from his overly eager neighbor! Everything is going fine until they g ...more

What a cute and refreshing read!Though it has the premise of the typical big city girl meets small town guy, I believe the author has executed the story wonderfully!

In this book we have Avery who aims become a well known journalist.Though she works at a small company now, she knows that if she does well on this assignment given to her it'll do wonders for her career. All she has to do is go out into the woods and nature for a flyfishing trip, with some old, reclusive guide.Turns out he isn't old

Want a sweet romance with misperceptions, a city girl, a country boy & a great dog? Hooked on Love by Jennie Marts fits the bill & delivers! Avery Oliver is a journalist from the city. The only job she's been able to get is with a small publication but she's trying to get into a bigger market. If she can nail this current assignment, a bigger publication is willing to talk to her. Shouldn't be rough. Talk to some old curmudgeon & have him teach her to fly fish.

I was hooked when Avery had a snake down her waders, and I could not put this book down. A fun sexy romance book of complete opposites but a sizzling chemistry that they can not deny. Avery, a journalist from Chicago is trying to get an advancement in her career, what better way but to get a story on fly fishing from a Colorado fisherman. Sully, has own fishing store and is a guide for fly fishing, very contented in his life except for his neighbor lady, who wants Sully for herself. Avery has a ...more

A quick and very cute read.

Opposites attract in the cutest of ways. Avery is a city girl who finds herself in the mountains of Colorado following a story to help her journalism career takeoff. There she meets Sullivan, a country boy who is not thrilled with being her guide. He has his fly fishing business, a cabin, a dog and a pain in the behind ex-wife. Why would he agree to teach Avery to fly fish? Well they strike a deal which will benefit both of them which makes for a fun and fast moving s

For me, this book was a case of really wanting to like a book more than I actually liked it.

I found Avery annoying and not very smart. I found Sullivan annoying and weak. I applaud the author not having a typical alpha male as the romantic lead, but this guy was kind of a pathetic sad sack.

The funny situations that Avery kept finding herself in were not particularly funny to me as much as awkward and unbelievable - maybe I just have a difference sense of humor.

This is not a terrible book but I

DNF at 27%. Just too sweetly romancy and predictable for me. I needed an edgy alpha male who could just tell the local slut that he didn't want her picnic basket with egg salad sandwiches especially since he was obviously fishing with another woman (you'd have to be there). Our outdoorsy, brooding male just couldn't bring himself to do it and my brain turned off.

Wow, Jennie has another winner on her hands! This book was sexy and fun. I was laughing out loud from the very first chapter! Sully is exactly the kind of man I love. He is a laid back kind of guy, and Avery, being his exact opposite is perfect for him! Every time Jenny writes a new book I find a new boyfriend! Looking for a broody, blushing fisherman - one who doesn’t realize how sexy he is? Like to hear about an adventurous city girl writing an article about this gruff fisherman - one she loves making blush for his sexy, lumberjack ways?

He was the sexy-as-sin, half-naked mountain man who’d ripped his freaking shirt off as he fired up a chainsaw and saved the cabin from being flooded.

Lumberjack porn. Jennie Marts—and, by extension, Avery—said it best. Sully is the embodiment of lumberjack porn—in the VERY best way. I mean, if that ^quote^ isn’t enough to get you interested in fly fisherman Sullivan Reed, then maybe this will:

Bearded, grumpy, funny, shy and able to rock Avery’s (and my) world with golden unicorns. He’s sweet to

"Hooked on Love" by Jennie Marts is book number two in the "Cotton Creek Romance" series. This is Avery Oliver and Sullivan Reed's story.

On the surface Avery and Sullivan characters don't seem compatible but they are perfect for each other. This is a great story to escape from life's troubles. Ge

Avery Oliver is looking to move onto bigger and better things in her career as a travel writer. Learning to fly-fish and spending time in a small-town near the Colorado mountains is not her idea of a good time, but if it gives her the chance to write the article of a lifetime, she’ll do it. However, spending time with her sexy guide, Sullivan Reed, and pretending to be his girlfriend in order to help him fend off the unwanted advances of a neighbor start to be

Hooked on Love is a sweet and light whirlwind romance with an opposites attract story-line. Avery is a city girl though and through, while Sullivan is 100% mountain man with no plans of changing. Even though these two have nothing that could possible make them compatible, they strike up a deal that is mutually beneficial. Sullivan need Avery to help him deflect some unwanted advances from an overly flirtatious neighbor and in exchanged he’ll help her with her story. The story was pretty funny an ...more

This is such a sweet book with a little naughtiness thrown in for your reading enjoyment. I loved the cabin in the woods and all the drama of fishing and rafting down the river and then the storm comes up and wow!! I loved how she wanted to help save the cabin, because it meant so much to him she wanted to pitch in and he. I enjoyed reading about the connection they had and how real the relationship was. It was so saucy too with Matt and the cake.... The dog

The story of Sullivan and Avery is fun, fresh and new! I loved the premise of city girl vs mountain man, but was pleasantly surprised on how it plowed through the story line I had envisioned and blossomed into something so much more. It had humor and fleshed out characters and supporting characters. Don't miss out on this really adorable and well written romance.

On the fly :) I was quickly excited about this read. I was smiling and laughing at Averys situations and found they were actually funny. I liked the attraction between Sully (love that name) and Avery and even liked the bit of drama by the ex and the wanna be.

It changed at the half way mark. I don't know why, maybe my mood but I wasn't hooked into the story as I was in the beginning.
