Life is an extravaganza and so unpredictable! Figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.
On my way to Oahu to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I married in Tijuana, I was nabbed by the police as a runaway. When the police let me go and the rock band broke up, my husband and I had to find another way to survive. Our next stop: Disney World where we trained to be chefs, courtesy of the Walt Disney World University.
A GED for my husband, and many more years of education eventually landed us in academia—with Ph.D.s from the University of Michigan we took professor jobs with U of M’s longstanding football rival, The Ohio State University.
Retired now from my role as a professor in social work and behavioral science, I have picked up a long-time interest in writing fiction. In my professional career I wrote and published widely as a scholar, with more than forty manuscripts of varying lengths on my vita. I also carried out hundreds of training, consulting and speaking engagements on a number of gloriously nerdy topics.
So what on earth does a research scientist have in common with a mystery writer? As avid fans of the mystery genre will tell you at the core of any good mystery is a passionate search for the truth. Discovering the truth involves finding and assembling pieces of complex puzzles in order to solve seemingly intractable problems—scientist and sleuth are cut from the same cloth!
Still married to the same sweet guy, I live with my husband in one of the seven desert resort cities in the Palm Springs area. In addition to reading and writing mysteries I enjoy painting, hiking, hanging out with my handsome husband and tending to my Siamese cats.
The Sonoran Desert is a beautiful setting to ponder life’s mysteries, by the surrounding mountains and the bountiful delights of the desert resort communities. I hope you enjoy reading the books in my three cozy mystery series: The Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery Series, The Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery Series, and the Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series. Cheers! Anna
Georgie Shaw is relaxing at home with her super cop boyfriend, when someone robs the theme park she works for. The pair make their way to the park, and try to prevent the perps from escaping.
I enjoyed this mystery based in a theme park. What a great idea. All these things happening behind the scenes and the public at the park on Halloween all in costume know nothing about it.
The MC and her love interest, a homicide detective are having dinner when the both get calls about a shooting at the HQ of the theme park where she works. He drives and she is just hoping that they get there alive. The boss/creator of the park is trying his best to keep this on the QT and is quite the character himself.
I will definitely be reading more of this series. I need to start this at the beginning.
My understanding is that this is the third book in the series. I have not read the first two. I'm a Halloween freak and the title of this one screamed at me, "read me first!". I'm happy that I listened to that voice as now I can say you can enjoy this book even if you haven't read the others. There are references to them but the author gives you enough background. I plan on reading the other two books. I really like Georgie. She is a fun character. Her love interest, Jack, is wonderful too. Miles is Georgie's cat and there is a surprise involving him. I found the book to be an entertaining read. I was caught up in the shenanigans at the park and the story moved along quickly. I loved the peeks we got of the inside of the park. I felt like I was there. There are recipes included for food mentioned in the story. Of course I made one, (actually two). I made the Spicy Pumpkin Soup and the sinfully delicious brownies. I used cashews in the brownies, (they were on hand), but they were excellent. Both recipes were easy to follow and came out tasty. I would recommend the book to those looking for an entertaining, fast read.
I don't know how she does it,but when I read these books and I think I have it figured out, Bam ! Anna throws in a monkey wrench and the killer is not who I thought ! In this book there is more intense situations for not only Georgie and Jack, but for the security and staff of Marley world. I really enjoyed the story line. The ending was awesome, but I won't tell you why,...you will just have to read this book yourself to find out..but you won't regret it.
Everyone is in costume for the event at the amusement park, including the misguided thieves. Former public relations head, Georgie and her guy detective Jack are on the scene in minutes and hope they have an advantage because Georgie is involved with the extravaganza. As soon as the sleuthing begins, so do the plot twists and suspense! Thanks be that the book is moderately sized or I would never have gotten to sleep!
Although this is the first book that I've read in this series, it's the 3rd book in the Georgie Shaw series. Although you can read and enjoy the book, I'd advise that you read the first two books because it contains spoilers.
That said, I really enjoyed reading this book. It primarily takes place at an amusement park, much like Disneyland or Disney World. Some crooks make off with some artwork that may be worth as much as a million dollars. They know the park's underground tunnel system and to make matters worse, they are dressed in costumes on the night where almost all the visitors are also wearing costumes, All Hallow's Eve.
The story has twists and turns, but it's not really scary or too much for readers of all ages. I recommend this book.
Georgie and Jack are such fun. Who would have guessed that working at a cat theme park would entail so much mystery and murder. Miles the cat steals the scene whenever he appears. A great Halloween story that will leave you laughing. Great characters and scene building made me feel like I was in the theme park. A really good and fun story, highly recommend to all mystery lovers.
The writings of Anna Celeste Burke are always a pleasure to read and this third installment of the Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery series is no exception. All Hallow’s Eve Heist sees Georgie and Jack on a date when things go terribly wrong (like they seem to do for these two!). FYI – the author provides sufficient back story so that reading the first two books in the series is not necessary when one reads this title.
The story begins with Georgie and Jack enjoying a night in, prepping a delicious sounding meal (Coquilles St. Jacques with a spicy pumpkin soup, fresh salad of locally grown baby greens, and warm crusty French bread and for dessert a rich chocolate mousse). There romantic banter is very endearing… Jack saying to Georgie re: him being a fan of women (unlike Holmes):
“Well, I am. A fan of one woman in particular.” Jack pulled me toward him and brushed my forehead with a kiss. As he did that, Miles wrapped himself around my legs. An affectionate cat, Miles couldn’t stand being left out if there was hugging going on.
So make a note – Miles is an integral part of this family 🙂 And so he should be…says this cat lover 🙂
Unfortunately, this romantic evening at home is interrupted by the fact that both Georgie and Jack got pinged with messages indicating there was an active shooter at Marvelous Marley World Headquarters. At this time – there is a Halloween celebration in Arcadia Park. It gets more complicated – many patrons are dressed in costume and so are the bad guys! Will Jack be able to find and apprehend the bad guys? And what part will Georgie play in their capture?
As I have come to know, Georgie in her life at Marvelous Marley World, will of course be the amateur sleuth and assist her boyfriend in apprehending the bad guys (like every cop wants a civilian partaking in a case!). She tends to get herself in tight situations, but it usually ends well. Georgie is actually a good amateur sleuth who cares deeply about her place of employment – and will protect it and the people working there as best she can. The story and how it unfolds is an enjoyable read, capturing my interest until the last word has been written. No more details will be provided so that you can enjoy this Halloween themed story yourself.
As always – I really enjoy the writings of Ms. Burke and this title is no exception. She definitely knows how to spin a tail, especially with such strong characters as Georgie and Jack. If you like cozy mysteries, strong principal characters, Halloween and theme parks then I suggest you pick up All Hallows’ Eve Heist and settle in for an enjoyable read.

All Hallows’ Eve Heist is the third novella in Anna Celeste Burke’s Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series and is a great read. As with the other books in this series, it is well written, the characters are relatable, and it moves at a steady pace, and kept my attention from beginning to end. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick, easy, clean read. I was kept guessing until the surprising final reveal. I would recommend this book, as well as all the books in the series, to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.
Georgina “Georgie” Shaw and Homicide Detective Jack Wheeler are enjoying date night and the gourmet meal Georgie prepared for them when they are alerted about a theft and murder at Marvelous Marley World’s headquarters. Even though Georgie is the Food and Beverage Management Director and no longer the Assistant Director in the PR Division, owner, Maximillian “Max” Marley, asks for her help. She and Jack rush to the scene and learn that a guard was murdered during the burglary, that the intruders got away but are still on the property, and one of them has been shot. As if that isn’t enough, they receive word about another shot being fired and a traumatized female employee needing help. Since Georgie knows the underground tunneling system and the ins and outs of entrances, etc., Max demands she go with Jack and the security guards. Jack isn’t happy and concerned for Georgie’s safety, but her help proves invaluable.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received this through the Goodreads Giveaway Program. This will be the first book that I've read by this author.
This was a short, fast-paced mystery set in an amusement park. The heroine had a vast knowledge of the workings of the park and its layout. This definitely aided her in the apprehension of the criminals. And a sad collection of characters they were!
Humorous at times; a fun read with scenes written in such a way that you could easily put yourself inside the action!
Since this is the 3rd book in the series, I would definitely recommend reading them in order. Through much of the book the author made references to things that had happened in the past. It interrupted the flow of the story and I felt as though I was at a disadvantage when Georgie discussed, or remembered, individuals and past crimes.
The story held my interest. A map of the 'park' would have definitely helped! I kept trying to track the characters as they tried to intercept the thieves. There were enough twists and turns that it was enjoyable without being too convoluted that you felt like you were missing clues along the way.
I'm especially looking forward to trying the recipe for Katherine Hepburn's Chocolate Brownies.
What can I say except that All Hallows Eve by Anna Celeste Burke, is another 5 star book! I would never have chosen to read a Halloween book way before Halloween, but as I am getting to know more and more about Georgie and Jack, I had move on to book 3! All Hallows Eve began when there was a call if shots fired at Marvelous Marley World, where Georgie is employed. Well, I my heart started thumping when I read those lines, as I am sure Georgie felt the same! The real problem was how were they going to catch the murderer, when there was a big Halloween Party going on throughout the theme park? Leave it to Jack Reilly and our ever persistent Georgie Shaw, to crack and solve another mystery! As usual, they did, and what a surprise that Max's "loving daughter, Mallory," was behind all of this carnage! She still rules, even from beyond the grave!
My other WOW moment was when we meet the new car Ella! Who and what was behind the scheme to bring a new cat into Georgia's life? I will give you two guesses, and one clue is "Snap. Crackle. Pop."
I'm a declared fan of Anna Celeste Burke's mysteries. They contain just the right blend of suspense and cosy. I like that Georgie is not your average detective. Mature in some ways and not in others, she provides enough vulnerability and experience to make for a protagonist that interests me. Following on from her "Katmandu Mountain" series this one features the disruption of their date night by a armed heist. This is a fast read with good pacing and plot. The tension never lets up as Georgie and her partner in crime try to resolve the hairy situation at the Halloween celebration in Arcadia Park. With this setting the book is the perfect read for this season, but it is worth reading for its suspense and characters. There are recipes for the season and a taste of the author's other work. A very enjoyable and accomplished book.
Kindle edition This was a cute Halloween heist book taking place at a Disney like adventure park, Marvelous Wally World. (Anybody else think of the movie Vacation with Chevy Chase going to Wally World?) The protagonist, Georgie, gets called back to work on Halloween night after a robbery. Luckily she's dating detective, Jack, who also received the call. They go to the park together to piece together the mystery of the robbery. Throughout the story Georgie & Jack find out employees are involved & 2 people are killed. The thieves are still at the park. It's the busiest night of the year with park goers in costumes. Will Georgie & Jack catch the thieves before they can take hostages & escape? A cute, quick read. I'll probably read the first two books in the series at some point. 3 1/2 stars

A heist that would have made Mallory Marley ecstatic from the grave! Her planned wickedness still has her father Max Marley of Marley's Marvellous World ripping his hair out as he searches for his wonderful treasures which Marley his daughter is still having her crooks go after for herself. The Administration who run the fun filled park are behind the scenes in the many caves and tunnels used to keep everything running smoothly. Today however, instead of the characters using the tunnels to dress and appear magically to the public, the tunnels will be in use for other nefarious purposes. This is the third book letting us into Georgie Shaw's mysteries by Anna Celeste Burke, as good as the first two. A fun read that shows Georgie never to expect another ordinary day at work. Not in this job!
This is the 3rd novella in the Georgie Shaw Series. Not only is this a read with lots of twists and turns--it has some really tasty recipes at the end. They had my mouth watering! Marvelous Marley World is having their massive Halloween bash. Georgie Shaw and Jack Wheeler are having a relaxing date night at Georgies (she made all those yummy recipes you can find at the end)-when they both get a phone call. There has been a major theft and yet another murder at Marvelous Marley World. Can they find the culprits? Something really nice happens at the end--but I can write no more or give up the story line. All Hallows' Eve Heist
I am so glad that I had a whole day from "real life" commitments to enjoy this series. Georgie and Jack make a delightful couple. The plot is fast paced as both Georgie and Jack are called to the scene of a burglary and shooting at Marvelous Marley World headquarters. The thieves escape from the offices into the tunnels that run under the theme park and the chase is on. Complicating matters for the police is that it's Halloween Hullabaloo - Boo in the park. I was totally swept up and didn't put the book down until the end. This was a twisty tale that included more shenanigans by Max's daughter, which is sad since she was killed in the first book in the series. Not a good legacy to leave behind but a perfect story line.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Jack and Georgie are just sitting down to eat dinner when Georgie gets a text and Jack gets a phone call. Both learn that a theft and shooting have just occurred in the offices at Marvelous Marley World. At the Gallery offices, they learn that one of the security guards was killed and one of the robbers was wounded.
Tensions mount when a second shooting is reported in the underground employee area.
Who is trying to steal things from The Gallery Offices? What were the shots fired in the underground area? Will the thieves be able ot escape or can Georgie, Jack, and the Security team stop them?
Chaos returns to Marley World & Catmmando Mountain. Of course, Georgie & Jack are right in the middle of it. With Arcadia Park filled with costumed partygoers, figuring out who the thieves are is a fun-filled ride full of twists, turns, & surprises.
Once again, Anna Celeste Burke has written a wonderful cozy mystery that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. I love Georgie and Jack and can't wait to see what they do next in A Merry Christmas Wedding Mystery.
More trouble at Marvelous Marley World. Georgie & Jack get a call and have to go back to work. There's another murder at work and someone has stolen priceless art created by Max when he first started in the business. They try to figure out how they plan to escape the compound with the stolen art. Lots of twists a turns keeps you guessing until the end.
This is another terrific Georgie Shaw mystery. It is very edge-of-your-seat with the characters that I have grown to love. It is fast paced, terrifying, and romantic but overall good, clean fun. I love how the mystery is all broken down and all of the questions answered at the end.
A good mystery to read especially this time of year with Halloween coming up very soon. This is a story about a shooting that takes place great characters as well story line is good as well. I recommend this book.
Dinner and a heist what can happen next. Well alot of great interesting bunch of characters that come together that had me from the start. The storyline keeps you on your toes along with the characters to search for the thieves that are hiding on a busy night.
Georgie Shaw was looking forward to her night out with her boyfriend Jack. However there was a shooting at her place of work. We see some old friends in each book which I like. I love reading all books by this author. There is always a surprise.
This novella takes place at Marvelous Marley World, which is a fun setting. It takes place during Halloween time, which also adds some fun to it. Looking forward to reading other books in the series.
Book three in the Georgie Shaw mysteries and I enjoyed it a lot. This book once again takes place at Marvelous Marley World’s which I love. On to book 4 which is also set in Marvelous Marley World’s so should be good.
