I had a lot of fun writing this story and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Yes, it's my book, but Goodreads lets me review it too, and I thinks it's pretty great!
A fantastic, thrilling book! This one kept me on the edge of my seat, and really was better than I expected. The premise is great, as I knew from the description, but the execution was better than expected, so kudos to the author. This is a frightening, popular book, and I see big things for this author in the future.
Dalton Summers is definitely quite a character in this thriller, and you won't regret joining him as you pick up a copy!
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
First thing that came into my mind when I finished this book: This book is a joke. The entire chapters are sooo boring; slow paced narrative plot, too many unnecessary descriptions, no character development whatsoever, and no wise or sweet words to quote!
In fact, I didn't even read the whole story, I tried to, but I couldn't bear the agony anymore. I just sort of jumped to the last pages, though I'd already known how the story might end up, and then nothing. Just nothing! Tbh, there was nothing thrilling in this book as it claimed it is.
This was surprisingly good. A deeply disturbing story, yet resonated on so many levels. Excellent. Dalton Summers has a night he'll never forget; but beneath the horror, this book strongly speaks of themes that would touch anyone. Unlike any other book I've read.
I received a signed copy of this book through Goodreads giveaways which was pretty cool, thanks goodreads and Jordan Greene! Overall I enjoyed this book it was an intense thriller the second half really had me on edge. I felt for the characters which kept me in the story even Bullet but only slightly because of the horrible things he did. The end funeral scene was really sad it felt so real. I would have given this book four stars but there was quite a few editorial errors throughout, and I felt that it was too descriptive at times for me, but other than that a solid entertaining book and I'm glad I won a copy!

Definitely not for the faint-hearted. Just don't let the beginning chapters lull you into a sense of comfort, because it will throw you jolt after jolt once the action begins, and it will continue unabated through to the last pages. Normally this is not my pick of genre, and now that I've read a dark psychological thriller, I know I don't want to go to that place again. If you can deal with it, this book's for you.
If you like horror then this is the book for you. The protagonist has no overt good qualities, and it made for an interesting story. You find yourself rooting for the children in this tale of good vs evil, on both sides. It's kind of like Lord of the Flies meets a 1988 Stephen King. Want to feel like this is the last horror story that you need to read? Then read this book.Extremely well written and directed. Thank God for Jordan Greene.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This was a frightening, thrilling book and kept me on the edge of my seat. It was better than I expected. The story is great and Dalton Summers is definitely quite a character. I recommend you pick up a copy.
This novel isn't for the weak hearts. It's really black scenario that I have got many nightmares in the nights I was reading it and I didn't get such nightmares for decades. I would like to thank Jordon for this breath-taking novel, I had sunk deeply in its details for days.
Oh wow. I totally wasn't expecting that, especially the ending of the story. I don't wish to spoil the story for the potiential readers. A definite must buy.
I must say I didn't figure out who the killer were EVEN if actually you could figure it out XD Dalton is a great character but the killers were also great written - I mean you don't want to have those lunatics in your own home. Which is also an effective point it's about an home invasion - probably my biggest nightmare so yeah!
an excellent story heart racing moments. I sure hope there is a second book coming out with Dalton and the aftermath of all his decisions. And how many were really actually deceased? This book has a great storyline and all the characters play an important part. This shows us that you just can ever know what all life can throw at you. A must read!
I would have loved to have given this psychological thriller a higher rating. It kept me riveted from beginning to end. I simply could not because of the jarring grammatical errors. Since when has it become acceptable to say "have went"? I was taught to say "have gone". In addition there were so many other errors in spelling. Both of those things drew my attention away from what was a really fascinating tale.
This is a book I won from goodreads, and I was pleased to read it. Dalton Summers receives a call from a raspy-voiced person who tells him that his family is in danger, and they might all die. The book was pretty gory, and the ending was not hard to figure out. You will have to read the book to see if the end justifies the means.
This was one of the best books I've read in a long time.It had me on the edge of my seat.I couldn't put it down until I was finished.I don't think I would recommend this book to anyone with a weak stomach.
Jordon Greene's "To Watch You Bleed" is a good, old-fashioned slasher book with enough suspense and bloodiness to satisfy any fan of the genre. With the exception of maybe picking up a splatterpunk tale - which I also really enjoy if there's some purpose to it all - there is as much gore and death as one wants in today's day and age. The plot moves at a brisk pace and for the most part is well-executed (he said, gritting his teeth with the painful memory of the one "your" instead of "you're" as well as mention of VISCOUS deeds…). And as a native of the Old North State (that's North Carolina to you unlettered masses), it was a bit of a thrill to see locales that I have either visited or at very least driven through along the way. Um, considering the circumstances, that is, sans stabby bits. Knock on wood. I want to watch you all bleed. I want to watch you bleed.
I should perhaps also note that we see no, um, prejudice when it comes to the ages of all the deceased, which includes a few more folks than what might be classified as victims. In fact, in many ways, this book has more of a Young Adult vibe to it than most horror books - there are scenes in the halls of the local High School as well as a lot of focus on the love and lust of the creatures we call teenagers - though it isn't what I'd called necessarily forced or inappropriate in any way. Now I'm not saying get a copy of TWYB and hand it over to your 13-year-old, goodness no! This is really hardcore horror in terms of violence and other themes that pop up. Plus, along the way just about every adult we meet winds up carved up like a Halloween jack'o'lantern. Did I mention this all takes place on Halloween? And don't forget, the real crazies do come out in droves on Halloween! Just to have a little All Hallows’ Eve fun, right? Yes, I'm borrowing bits from the book here… and repeating the word Halloween as often as I can! (whispers: Halloween!) This is all your fucking fault. All of it.
It is, however, definitely more than a little, well maybe not cheesy but it definitely has a good bit of dairy-ness to it. This is simply because we know almost from the first pages who our villain will be. Yes, it is that obvious and if you still don't catch it right away, there's a lot of foreshadowing to help you out as well. OK, granted, the person in question shows up later with some "friends" in tow, but honestly, if you've ever watched a horror movie or read a book in this genre or basically had the opportunity at some point in your life to be frightened in any way (eek, a mouse… with a knife!), it'll be really really clear what's coming up. Plus, while we're focusing on the fromage, I could have done with fewer descriptions about watching tears fall or even noting what color eyes from which said tears fell… Don’t worry, we’re not going to kill her… Well, not yet at least.
I would, however, counter with the fact that the lack of real surprise or even shock doesn't detract from the raw emotions we feel and are presented with along the way. Hell's bells, even the guilt everyone is or eventually will be feeling is enough to drown the most well-adjusted reader! The level of intensity though of all was in my eyes Greene's most powerful "contribution" to the dark nightmare we witness the Summers family - and friends - go through in the space of just a few terrifying hours. We get to know this family very well both inside and out, with their triumphs and tribulations laid out for all to see. So much so that I don't think you can help but sympathize with everyone involved, no matter what may have transpired in the past. Yes, mistakes were made but damn, what happens crosses the line beyond revenge and dives fully into a zone reserved for the worst psychopaths. I am. I am hurting you. By hurting them. Can’t you see that?
Look, I'm not going to add anything like "this was the most horrifying story I've read since Joe Hill' (sorry Joe Hill's dad) or John Ajvide Lindqvist's last tale." But if you're looking for honest-to-goodness stabby reading fun where it's pretty much going to be a situation where "nobody gets out alive" (more of less), then you can't go wrong with the roller coaster (yes, that's a plug for nearby Carowinds!) ride that this book will take you on! Heck, the entire NC-ness of it all is even believable enough to mention NASCAR, too! So y'all come back now, so we can go get us some hushpuppies, pulled pork BBQ and sweet iced tea while we sit around the fire and reminisce while the cicadas scream. Um, but with the lights on. Most definitely with the lights on.
Finally got myself to finish it. I will give it this, it is gory. The descriptions of gore are amateur and the spelling is (try to say this nice) not to good. Character & Plot are all but missing. Hate to be so critical to someone who I give an "A" for effort and is obviously just starting off. Like all things, as you do them more times, you get better. Maybe your next effort will be more defined and flow better so the writer can more easily follow where the story is going.
70% of this book was awesome but there is nothing redeeming in this book. The whole time you just sit there and go oh please don’t do that oh please don’t do that! There’s never a time where you go yes get them do it get them I thought people would get hurt but at least the family would survive. I was greatly disappointed in this book it wasn’t the writing that was pretty good the ideas were great it was just that there was no payoff at the end.
personally the book just didn’t quite hit the spot for me. the plot was predictable, the descriptions were either overly detailed or not detailed enough, and the entire pacing was off. practically none of the characters had actual depth to them, most of them just there to serve as another death. i was disappointed, the other reviews of this book hyped it up incredibly but it just wasn’t to my taste.

If non sensical violence is what you are after this is the book for you. A simple story which is basically a slasher movie in print. For those in need of one blood and gore pick this up, just know that is really all you're going to get.
If you over look the multiple spelling and grammar mistakes, as well as the hard to follow storyline and obvious ending you see halfway through.....I still have a hard time giving it 1 star, Very sorry.
I love a good suspense novel., but this was just too hard. I had to finally skip to the end to see how it ended, because I could no longer take the pain of the story. Good grief! How horrible can you get?!
It didn't thrill me. What it did was annoy me. It reminded me of the movies I've seen with little twists here and there. Not all excited sadly. 😞 I kept reading and I forced it. I couldn't wait for the chapters to be over. Sorry but it's true.
Argh!! I tried so hard to finish this book but I just couldn't take all the gory violence anymore. It was so detailed that it made me cringe. There wasn't a character that didn't suffer a horrible gut wrenching death.
