"Everybody’s getting old and you are too,” says one of the narrators in Girls on Film. Their memories of the past are triggered by teen girls putting on makeup, Paul McCartney on the radio. They remember men always leaving, just like their dads, mothers falling apart. Two stories follow a former child star, her rehab, the heroism of her little brother when she was growing up. A girl imagines starring in a film where she plays herself. “She likes imaginary men the best.” Old movies provide an endless loop of blondes. The stories in Girls on Film are vivid, beautiful, heart-wrenching. Read this book!

Wonderful book full of atmosphere and mischief and the seductive world of cinema. I never regret reading whatever Kathryn Kulpa writes. She is one of the smartest writers around these days with a wit all her own, and her compact, lyrically rich prose never disappoints. Highly recommended!

I always love Kathryn Kulpa's work. This book reads like a tiny novella-in-flash and is engaging from beginning to end.
