I read this book less than 3 hours ... Once again, it was beautiful, poignant and right in the feels.
Josh and Marla's journey made my heart race. John won me over by breaking all Marla's strong walls.
I need a Josh in my life too! And he's English ... hot damn ...

The magic is operating again. I read in one sitting A Promise Kept and I knew I had to read the second one. I was such in a binge read that I couldn’t once again put it down. When I met Josh and Marla’s, I wanted to read their story.

Some stories just make the reader feel good. A Promise Made is one of those stories. I received a copy from Barclay Publishing in exchange for an honest review. A Promise Made is the second in the story of three friends, Josh, Evan and Zach who each have promises that they have to live up to when they meet the one. Josh has wanted Marla from the moment he met her. She and Grace (A Promise Kept) are best friends and Grace is well aware that Josh is interested in Marla who won't give him the time ...more

A Promise Made is the second book in the Promise series by Anissa Garcia. The Promise series are adult contemporary romances. I never had the chance to read A Promise Kept, book one in the series, but I had no problem following along with Josh's story. I thought it was a cute romance. A little heavy on the cheese, but cute nonetheless. I think lovers of romantic romances will enjoy this one.

I have to say I ended up l

Are you into Hollywood romances? Love those stories of enemies to lovers? A Promise Made by Anissa Garcia was one of those new adult romances as we meet Grace and Evan who are best friends with the main characters Marla and Josh. Josh and Marla are two people who love to hate one another. They are the type of couple we’re often used to reading about. They are the type of couple that when you get right down to the nitty-gritty, you discover that they do love one another and you sit there thinking

Reading “A Promise Made” by Anissa Garcia was an interesting experience for me because it taught me that I do not have to love the characters to like the book.

Because I seriously could not wrap my brain around Marla. Always when I felt I was nearly connecting to her she did something or said something that threw me of course.

Josh was so sweet and attending and yet confusingly deep and thoughtful at times, while Marla always felt like Josh was a nuisance to her. I wondered why he did not give up

Evan asked Marla to teach him how to cook as a surprise to Grace, but he can't keep anything from her. Evan made a comment about how he told Josh not to go on a date and to come to the house. Marla doesn't understand why men give women weird nicknames. Grace becomes very worried about Marla and asks Josh to keep an eye Marla.
Marla loves to cook, she is very closed off when it comes to men. She works in marketing. Grace, Evan, Zach, Ana and Holden's friend. Josh is Evan's friend and Personal Tra

A Promise Made by Anissa Garcia was an excellent contemporary romance. This was the first novel I read by this author but it definitely will not be my last. I enjoyed the authors voice but was transported into the story through the complexities of the hero Josh and the heroine Marla. Their voices were very distinct and lifelike. The sexy scenes were spicy. Heat level wise I'd give it maybe a four out of ten, but the lack of eroticism didn't take away from the breadth of the story.

A Promise Made is an interesting look into the emotional baggage one brings into budding relationships. Marla is afraid of losing her personal identity by bending to a man's will. She is so intent on being independent she almost misses the chance of a life time. Then there's Josh who despite a tumultuous past and failed relationships still believes in true love. Through his patience and persistence Marla and Josh navigate through their relationship. Josh is a sweet, caring and thoughtful man who ...more

Author: Anissa Garcia

4 unexpected stars

Although it wasn't necessary since it could be read as a standalone, I wish I had read the first book in the series if nothing more than to know more about the characters that were part of A Promise Made. Anissa Garcia knows how to tell a story that will feel like as thouhgh you're watching a movie and a beautiful one at that. The storyline was quite the realistic one that kept me captivated and I couldn't wait to know more about Jo

Josh McKenzie is a personal trainer to the Hollywood stars. He takes his training very seriously and expects his clients to do the same. Josh has an interest in a girl that he met through his best friend. However she shows no interest in him at all. When she starts to get into danger he makes a promise to her best friend to protect her. He will do what needs to be done to keep that promise.

“A Promise Made” is the first novel that I’ve read by Anissa Garcia. The story was gripping- a page turner- I read it easily in one afternoon.

Marla is a strong and independent woman, who has been burned too many times in the past, leaving her resistant to love. She may not even believe in love anymore. Josh is strong and solid with a somewhat intimidating presence- your typical alpha male appearance. But there is definitely more to him than meets the eye. Marla writes him off right off the bat.

This was my first reading anything from this author and I was impressed. Josh and Marla are adorable even if they spend most of the time arguing. I loved the ground up of friends and how close they are. They mean well but sometimes they push when they shouldn't. In this case, it worked out good.
Marla is all about work but she fears getting close to guys since she's been burned before. Josh is all about fitness but wants to settle down. He's had his eyes on Marla for awhile but never acted on it

Josh and Marla. Josh is so sweet, Marla is strong and defensive due to a difficult past.
The banter is quick and funny.

This book follows Marla who works at an ad agency and is really good friends with Grace who happens to be dating Evan. Evan is best friends with this guy Josh who really likes Marla or as he calls her Red. Marla and Josh have been introduced before and it seems have hung out in a larger group setting when we get brought into the storyline. Marla has been hurt in past relationships and really isn’t looking for someone at this moment. Marla is also really stressed out about her job. Josh on the o ...more

Marla Sullivan knows her way around a kitchen. The first chapter had me salivating. Josh McKenzie is a man who knows his sex appeal. He also realizes that he has his work cut out for him in order to get the right one to notice him. The author has created some interesting secondary characters that I found myself wanting to know more about them.

Evan and Grace really stood out for me. The author was very smart to include them in this book because they helped to keep the story moving. It was nice to

Marla Sullivan has decided that she's a magnet for douche bag men, so she's decided to stay away from any that look like they may have bad boy tendencies. And in her mind, Josh McKenzie is just another dangerous bad boy, so she quickly learns to push his buttons to keep him away. But when danger starts to stalk her, she learns that there's more to the sexy, tatted up man, with a British accent. Now the problem becomes losing her heart to him. Great characters, lovely language and plenty of laughs

Marla Sullivan has been hurt before, and Josh McKenzie is exactly the kind of guy she's promised herself she'd stay away from, though she's finding it difficult to deny her attraction to him. I related strongly to Marla and loved her feistiness while Josh is the perfect book boyfriend: teasing, protective and caring. Where Marla isn't sure she believes in love anymore, Josh is determined to convince her to give him--and them--a chance, despit

It took me a little bit to get into this book simply because I wasn’t as familiar with the characters in the beginning as the author probably intended me to be-seeing as how this is the second book in a series. However, I didn’t know that going in but I was able to figure everyone out pretty quickly.
The characters of Josh and Marla did captivate me. Josh was definitely an alpha male, but an alpha

Marla Sullivan has sworn she will never fall for a guy like Josh Mackenzie. The muscle bound, sexy as sin man that can have any woman he wants. She has been their and done that. Her friends have other plans. With their bit of matchmaking, Marla’s encounters with danger and Josh not being able to keep her out of his mind will bring him more and more into her life. Can Marla open her heart and mind to Josh or will she lose everything she holds dear?

This was a wonderful book and it captivated me from the start. Marla is an independent woman, and a marketing team lead for multiple accounts. She has a normal woman's fears and insecurities, especially when her previous experience with the male of the species turned so sour. Now she's met Josh MacKenzie, a health and fitness buff and private trainer for various actors, who shows an interest. Is he going to be the sam

I received an ARC of this book from Barclay Publicity for the A Promise Made blog tour.

Josh and Marla were two characters that I really liked from A Promise Kept, I then I fell in love with them in A Promise Made. Their relationship was a very sweet kinda friends to lovers romance. Marla thought she disliked Josh, but we all know she didn't ;) It was a slow building relationship, and those are my favorite kinds of romances!

Anissa Garcia seriously makes some great characters, and I loved getting

I loved A Promise Kept... seriously loved it. I could not wait to read this book. I didn't love A Promise Made as much as I did the other one...

I was so excited that Josh was getting his own book! He is a personal trainer and amazing guy. Everyone thinks he is totally a muscle man, but in reality, he works hard at keeping himself health and happy. Mental and physically.

Marla has a lot of issues. One being not wanting to deal with men like her ex again. HE was a MMA fighter and did not treat her

My first book by Anissa Garcia and I am a big fan. This is book 2 in the series though can be read as a standalone.

Huh. Is it weird that I really liked this book but I didn't exactly like all of the characters involved in the story?!? Because that is where I stand with A Promise Made.

Here's the deal and in all honesty, this one detail might have affected my enjoyment of the story. I started reading without having experienced A Promise Kept (book one in the series). However, I found A Promise Made to a standalone romance with characters whose lives were interconnected with the previous characters.

Loved this smart, sexy read❣
Fast paced, funny with quite a bit of angst, this gem of a read stole my heart with the story of Marla and Josh.
Anissa Garcia developed beautiful characters that were both relatable and delicious!
Both like each other but because of past experiences and exes, both are afraid to trust and commit.
What does it take to brake those barriers?

This was a great book. It reminded me a lot of a good Lifetime movie. It had a great story line and it flowed well, although the start was a little slow. It had persistence, angst, love, fear, anger, questions, frustration and made me giggle in parts.

I think I spent the majority of the time I was reading this with a huge smile plastered on my face. I couldn't help it, for some reason it just made me happy. Josh seems like a total dreamboat with a sweet heart and Marla was feisty in all the right ways.

A Promise Made had everything that the last book was missing. It had the perfect amount of romantic tension, a problem outside the relationship that helped to make them stronger, and hints about the romantic future of Zach. Also, it had Hank (th
