I bought the 8th edition. I felt like the book spent too much time on things like how to pick out a good mattress rather than the actual running of day-to-day activities. It also seems outdated. It does mention social media, but it also mentions listing ads in the paper, reservation agencies, and "if you don't own a computer, get one." Website screen shots look like they're from 1996. These were all relevant at one time, but are out dated now.
Unfortunately this book was last published in 2012 and it shows-- most of the topics are still relevant, but most of the resources and connections it suggests no longer exist. Still, it's a quick piece of literature that you can skip around if you are brand new to the idea of running a professional, above board b&b
This was a very useful book for those of us who are looking to start their own Bed & Breakfast. It's an optimistic but honest view of the challenges and benefits and it gave me a lot of information to ponder and discuss with my husband as we prepare to embark upon the journey.
