Re-read 2021: I thought it was high time to re-read this book. Still, after 5 years, I haven't read the original manga or anime, it is just too much gore for me and I am not into that. But this one is fun and had me laughing quite a few times. While I haven't seen the original I know enough about the characters to know their personalities and a lot of what makes them tick. Not everything, so some things I didn't get, but for most I got all the little things. I loved seeing several couples (and one girl hoping to form a couple with another girl.. though given how possessive she was I wasn't happy). I loved seeing Eren's titan mode (I guess he shouldn't be counting Titans, haha). And there is plenty more. The art is really fun and fits very well.

-----------------------------------
I bought this book for my boyfriend's birthday a few months ago. I finally decided to also read it.

I haven't really seen much of Attack on Titan (only saw one episode), or read the manga. But thanks to various other things (like the internet, or that Junior High anime) I do know the characters, and what makes them tick. So some of the jokes I didn't get, but most I did. :P

Each chapter is a new story. For instance we would have a story about Mikasa and Eren living together, which also brought some (hilarious) misunderstandings with Armin. Or a story about Hannah and Franz, and how Hannah is getting annoyed at Franz's constant staring at other girl's boobs. And how Franz never notices that he pisses off Hannah with that. And of course enough Mikasa trying to show Eren how much she loves him, in various ways, like force-feeding him. Or trying to tell him stuff, only to have him not notice or that he gets distracted by something else.
Also enough Sasha and her constant hunger. I do wonder how she doesn't get fat, considering all she eats throughout the day.

It was really fun to see all the characters again, and to see them have fun, or make fun of people and their quirks. It is a nice change from the original manga which features a heavy dose of drama, titans, and death.

I will definitely be getting the second volume as well, I want to see more funny stories and more jokes about the characters.

The art was also pretty great, OK, the character's noses were a bit weird, but that is the only thing.

All in all, I really had fun reading this one. I would recommend it to everyone that knows about Attack on Titan, or has seen/read the series.

If you're not familiar with Attack On Titan, this book probably won't mean much to you. It's a collection of four panel gag strips featuring the various AoT characters. It's fun, but not much more than that. A few are funny, but most are just meh. Hounori draws well, and he has a reasonable sense of comic timing, but not much ability when it comes to writing gags. One gets the sense that this project came about, not because an artist was cranking out these four panel gags and someone said, "Hey, you should make a book of these," but rather some editor said, "Hey, Attack on Titan sells really well. We should put out a book of parodies of it, and make some money. Let's get Hounori to do it. He draws funny well." If you're a diehard Titan fan, you might get a kick out of it. I wouldn't advise reading this if you haven't read the manga or seen any of the series (or movies) though, partly because of spoilers, and partly because it's not that great. It's one of those cases where the idea is better than the execution.

This is a Comic based on the anime and manga series Attack on Titan this has very funny comic strips outside of the actual series and is very fun to read. With the series grim tones of death and loss it great to see just some funny things outside of the main attack on titan reality.I would recommend and not regret giving it 5 stars.

Japanese 4-panel comics are an acquired taste, but even so I think this one is far below average. If you're going to read one alternate-universe AoT parody, make it Junior High

A light-hearted much-needed spoof on Attack on Titan. I loved the artist's rendition of each character. OF course it's spoilery, and you won't totally understand the characters unless you're read the entirety of AOT.

I loved the humor, though it felt stilted at times.

(he leído ambos tomos publicados)

3.5 stars - It was pretty funny, I giggled quite a few times - that being said it wasn't as hilarious as I thought it would be. Still overall a good book - I'm glad I read it, would definitely recommend for fans of both the Manga and the Anime.

Exponentially funny and so cute! I know the actual manga and anime is more serious, but the way they downplayed the remake from warriors on missions to kids getting into shenanigans is quite refreshing and entertaining. I couldn't get enough!

Spin off of Attack on Titan, this could’ve been good but the style of 4-Koma manga is annoying 😂

Some of it fell flat, but containing knowledge that Erwin Smith canonically reads horoscopes in the daily paper and Levi Ackerman drinks like a wine mom certainly upped the rating.

I first read this book online a while back this year, and honestly, sometimes it's pretty funny but other times it's not. It's 50/50. I still enjoyed the small stories and art style though.

It’s been a while since I’ve read the main series, but this was still more fun than I expected. Definitely better than the Junior High spin off. I might read more when I finish the main series.

In Summary

With so many personality quirks in the ranks of the Survey Corps, there’s a lot to make fun of, and Spoof on Titan does just that. Its gags aren’t so much about taking down Titans but the mental and sometimes physical damage that squad members deal to each other. A couple jokes may prove spoilerific, but if you are current on the manga and love the cast’s idiosyncracies, these chibi-style antics are likely to provide big laughs.

The Review

It’s not unusual for mangaka to include funny 4-komi or four-panel comic strips in manga volumes as extras. However, Attack on Titan is a franchise with a large enough following that it’s possible to create a title comprised entirely of 4-komi gag strips. That’s exactly what Kodansha’s done in Spoof on Titan. And like many Attack on Titan spinoffs, it is handled by an artist other than creator Hajime Isayama.

Spoof on Titan uses chibi style artwork, and artist Hounori’s versions of the characters are both adorably cute and recognizable. However, some panel illustrations do get a little cramped when they feature three or more characters, and the font for translation overlays on letters, books, etc., are too tiny to read. The volume is comprised of twenty-seven chapters, each four pages long, with a few splash pages in between.

Four chapters are a hodgepodge of gags, but the remaining chapters have a unifying theme or story arc. For instance, Eren suffers his comrades’ attempts to “help” when he gets a cavity in “Dental Health,” and “Boys, Girls, and Written Exams” explores the 104th Training Corp’s test prep methods. As you might guess, the content is geared toward fans already familiar with the characters’ personalities, which also makes the jokes incomprehensible to the uninitiated.

A warning to those who’ve only seen Season 1 of the anime: there are references to revelations that take place later in the saga. In other words, if you’re not aware of the secret Bertolt and Reiner share, a couple gags may prove spoilerific. However, if you don’t care about spoilers, you will certainly get the vast majority of jokes, which center around early established themes such as Sasha’s insatiable appetite and Jean’s crush on Mikasa.

Eren and his fellow 104th cadets dominate the volume, but some relatively obscure characters get a surprising amount of attention. Hannah and Franz, whose romance came to a tragic end in the Battle for Trost, get their own lovey dovey chapter. Mike’s nose also gets its own chapter, and “Oluo’s Demise” centers around the members of Squad Levi. And even though vertical manuevering action dominates the anime and original manga, there’s hardly any of it in Spoof. It has some cannon fire and Titans roaming around, but Hounori-sensei is more interested in the craziness our squad members inflict on each other.

Extras include bonus character sketches and translation notes.

Compared to the other comedic spinoff Attack on Titan Junior High, Spoof on Titan is the comedic step-brother to the main series. This is also more satisfying to see and read than that version, though this is still a 4 panel series with good jokes and jokes that don’t land. In other words, this is the more interesting version that still has titans and is very silly, and it’s still more or less worth it to those already deep into the fandom.

After all, Spoof on Titan is a bit closer to the main series. Junior High dealt with our heroes doing schoolwork, attending clubs, and facing the titans in gym class; this one reflects a version where the titans are definitely around and everyone is serious about defeating them… eventually. For now everyone’s keen on either building relationships with each other or being annoying. With over 20 stories in this volume, you can expect to know which character decides to become a genie in his sleep or who’s brave enough to write their true pairings on the wall.

Spoof on Titan has actually been released before. DeNA released an English version of Mangabox a few years ago, with Spoof on Titan one of its inaugural manga title. The one question aside from others (chapters released for how long, how much manga, etc) was whether the manga on the app could ever be released in the States in volume format. Well, we’ve now Kodansha has licensed two: this and Love and Lies.

Personally, I’m super happy they did license this, even if it’s not the best spoof ever. In essence, the jokes for the most part fall flat than most. Some even end abruptly, which either means I missed the joke or the joke didn’t work. Then you immediately wonder if this is worth the $8.99 for 128 pages.

For me though, I’m amused at the concept of taking characters out of a super serious world and placing them into someplace lighthearted. This is definitely a case where the art by Hounori is cute and the absurdity of the characters being changed is fun for me at least.

If you’re already knee deep into Titan and didn’t check out the MangaBox version, this is worth a read. If not, you might want to see if your library has it in stock first, or skip it altogether.

🌸10th March 2021🌸

This is a collection of little comedic spin off stories involving the Attack on Titan character, which for this are drawing in an adorable chibi form. It does feature a pretty big spoiler quite early on and to really appreciate it you will need to know the main story. I see what they were going for with this little special, which is the first volume of a two part mini series, and I think it is quite cute but I feel like I also didn’t really needed to read it. If I hadn’t got this manga as part of a bundle I wouldn’t have bothered. It’s very forgettable and very very few jokes landed (maybe it’s just my sense of humour). It definitely felt like a bunch of filler.

For the sake of my mental health I've decided everything that happened here is canon :)

The book was short and the art was adorable. I can definitely see Eren getting serious constipation from his sheer frustration with the titans.

I am OBSESSED with Attack on Titan, so when I saw this, I knew I had to read it. And it's pretty fun! These are mini short stories about what these characters were doing before going out to fight the titans, and a lot of it is making fun of their character development. I really enjoyed it, and actually found I loved the characters even more after seeing these silly sides.

The artwork is exactly perfect for this sort of thing too. It's simply, but kinda chibi, with enough room to get ridiculous.

If you're an Attack on Titan fan with a good sense of humor and enjoys humorous things, you'll like this :) I'm looking forward to reading the rest.
