Mills & Boon Sweet series promises love affairs to last a lifetime…New Year's Bachelors
New Year's Resolution #1: Find a Fiancé!
With a disastrous blind date left on her doorstep, Dana Shaw had no one with whom to ring in the New Year. Then fate stepped in, in the form on an inherited ticket to a New Year's Eve bachelor auction.
Bachelor #1 Sean O'Malley rancher and volunteer fireman was hotter than the flames he put out. The darkly handsome hunk would be hers for seven cold winder nights and his heart would surely convince her three matchmaking aunts not to set her up with any more disastrous Mr. Rights. But what happened when the trio dubbed him Mr. Wrong?
Lisa Bingham was thirteen when she decided she wanted to be a published author, and she reached that goal less than ten years later. Now Lisa is the bestselling author of more than thirty historical and contemporary romantic fiction novels. Lisa has also been a teacher and a professional theatrical and historical reenactment costume designer—she’s considered an expert in those fields. She has been lucky enough to live and study in such exotic locales as Brazil, Mexico, Europe, and the United Kingdom. Currently she lives in rural northern Utah near her husband’s fourth-generation family farm. She is married to her sweetheart of twenty-two years and has three beautiful children, an over-protective dog, a burr-laden cat, and a miniature goat who thinks she’s a puppy.
Dana Shaw (a reporter) is up to her elbows in suitors due to her matchmaking aunts sending them to her door. When a blind date set up by one of her meddling aunts shows up at her front door she decides that enough is enough. Fate steps in and she inherits a ticket to a New Year's Eve bachelor auction.
Bachelor #1 Sean O'Malley (a rancher and volunteer fireman) is just the man for Dana. She buys him at the auction and wins seven days with him. She has wanted to get a story on him but hasn't been able to manage it so that is one item, he will have to be interviewed. Anothething she makes him do is pretend to be her fiance at her triplet aunts birthday party.
Sean has been looking after his younger siblings since his mother died and his dad had an accident. His aunt has been attempting to take the youngest three but he is determined to keep them together. Will the publicity from the interview Dana is determined to get from him be enough for his aunt to gain custody of his youngest sisters? You will have to read to find out.
I really enjoyed this book and thought that Sean was a wonderful man. Dana's aunts were hilarious, the dates they sent to her door were something else. Dana is a driven reporter but will her drive to get a story cost her the love of a great man.
A smooth read that is quick to finish, but having the hero and heroine go there separate wants doesn't cause hurt or angst in the reader .... And when they do end up together at the end of the book it's an oh well, romance has to end well after all ! Instead of a big feeling of warm relief. So, not a book I would ever bother to read again. The kind of book it's safe to take along to a waiting room to read because it won't break your heart if it gets accidentally left behind.
I enjoyed this book first time around and probably would have given it three stars. But, the couple times I've tried to read it since, it's been kind of blah/ho-hum.
