A dix-neuf ans, Wataya Risa est la plus jeune lauréate jamais couronnée du prix Akutagawa, le Goncourt japonais. Et l'histoire qui a conquis le jury et le public japonais n'est sans doute pas très éloignée de sa propre expérience de lycéenne, il n'y a pas si longtemps. Ce journal intime d'une jeune fille qui n'arrive pas à s'intégrer dans sa classe est au plus près des sensations, de la contradiction des sentiments qui affleurent sous la surface unie des apparences. De ces moments où l'on cherche un sol ferme sous ses pieds, pour s'aventurer à la découverte de la vie. Et lorsqu'on se sent attirée par un garçon qui vit confiné dans sa passion pour un mannequin vedette, on aimerait bien le réveiller de son rêve pour qu'il fasse ses premiers pas avec vous, sur ce chemin incertain.
Une chronique sensible, et pleine d'humour, de cet âge oscillant entre la nostalgie d'une enfance innocente et la naissance, presque malgré soi, de ce qui pourrait bien s'appeler l'amour.

I Want to Kick You in the Back is a short novella about a young girl who is struggling to find her place in school and to handle her relationships. As someone who was a loner in school, I could identify with Hatsu and her difficulty to join her classmates and form friendships. Hatsu is determined to be set aside and highlight her individuality while thirsty to fit in and be noticed. Would I have wanted to read more about her, yes, but still, the book pretty much captured how the main heroine felt and why she acted the way she did, as well as how her best friend and her new friend, the boy who was obsessed with Oli-chan, both were presented through the prism of Hatsu's thoughts.
As for the writing, it was fun, with comical elements, fast pace and a light mood.

Jak wygląda Wasz wybór kolejnej lektury? Bierzecie pod uwagę kryterium geograficzne? Czy dźwięczy Wam w głowie nieśmiertelne „cudze chwalicie, swego nie znacie”?
Dziesiątki przeczytanych tytułów umiejscowiły mój czytelniczy gust w rejonach zachodnich. W tym roku powzięłam postanowienie, by wykrzesać minimalną dozę odwagi i otworzyć się na dorobek pisarski rodem z przeciwległej części świata. Można powiedzieć, że Japonię powinnam odhaczyć już parę dobrych lat temu, kiedy to zaliczyłam krótki epizod fascynacji tamtejszymi komiksami. Obrazki swoje, a tekst swoje, dlatego starsza o parę wiosen postanowiłam sięgnąć po książkę z krwi i kości, wiecie, taką w pełni zadrukowaną słowem pisanym.
Do odważnych świat należy, tak mówią. Warto jednak brać pod uwagę możliwość ewentualnego zawodu. Z niewiadomych powodów moja literacka czujność pozostawała przez ostatnie tygodnie w stanie hibernacji (czyżby za dużo dobrych książek?) i... mamy to. Ni stąd, ni zowąd przyszło rozczarowanie. Dawało o sobie znać stopniowo, jednak intuicja rzadko mnie zawodzi – książkę kończę z przykrym, acz silnym poczuciem zmarnowanego potencjału.
Wstępny zarys historii prezentował się naprawdę intrygująco i – co by nie mówić – był jakby skrojony idealnie na moją miarę. Krótkie przedstawienie głównych bohaterów w stopce redakcyjnej rozwiało początkowe nadzieje; nie będą stanowić lustrzanego odbicia tej konkretnej czytelniczki, która mimo wszystko identyfikuje się jako społeczny outsider, nie będę mogła zbić z nimi mentalnej piony. Samotność niejedno ma imię, dlatego obietnica nowej perspektywy była traktowana przeze mnie jako wartość dodana.

Skłaniam się ku sprawiedliwemu podziałowi zarzutów i jakąś wspólną karą.
Relacja głównych bohaterów żadnym sposobem mnie nie kupuje. Zastanawiam się, czy w ogóle powinna; być może cały ambaras wynika z mojego niezrozumienia – wybaczcie, jak wspomniałam na początku, raczkuję dosyć niepewnie po tym wschodnim gruncie. Chcę wierzyć, że nawet nieznaczne zwiększenie objętości pozwoliłoby dokładniej nakreślić portrety psychologiczne, wytłumaczyć motywację niektórych posunięć. Chcę, ale mając w pamięci konkretne fragmenty oraz wspomnienia (niestety bardzo wyraźne) reakcji na nie – coś pomiędzy zdziwieniem, zażenowaniem i niezrozumieniem właśnie – jest mi niespotykanie ciężko. Jako że cenię sobie szczerość, z niejaką ulgą wspomnieć muszę obecność naprawdę pięknych, trafnych przemyśleń. Szkoda tylko, że trafiły się ich zaledwie śladowe ilości...
„Plecy, które chcę kopnąć” okazały się tytułem nie dla mnie. Nie czuję szczególnej potrzeby, by w podobny sposób znęcać się nad posiadanym egzemplarzem. Myślę, że historia ta jest w stanie znaleźć właściwych odbiorców, będących może na nieco wcześniejszym etapie życia. Na moją okejkę niestety nie ma co liczyć.

CÁI THÚ CỦA CUỘC SỐNG ĐƠN ĐỘC
Thừa hay không thừa? Cô đơn hay đánh mất cái tôi? Mới chân ráo vào ngôi trường mới, Hasegawa đã gặp ngay vấn đề nan giải của tuổi thiếu niên: kết bạn mới. Ấy thế mà, rất nhanh chóng và không do dự, Hasegawa đã chọn là.m bạn với c.ô đơ.n. Cô từ chối quan hệ với các bạn, lảng tránh các cuộc nói chuyện phiếm, có khi còn khinh thị không khí tập thể. Cô mỉm cười trước những bạn học phải cố rặn nụ cười để “cho có không khí” trong cho một cộng đồng nhạt nhẽo, chế giễu cả người thầy giáo “dễ dãi” khi luôn chiều theo ý học sinh.
Nhưng dù có tự tách biệt mình ra, thì cũng giống bất cứ đứa trẻ mới lớn nào, trong lòng Hasegawa vẫn tồn tại mâu thuẫn. Mâu thuẫn đó mang tên Ninagawa, là cậu bạn cùng tuổi với niềm đam mê idol sâu sắc, người duy nhất khiến cô muốn níu kéo, dù khinh thị người khác bao nhiêu. Tình cờ làm sao, Ninagawa cũng yêu cuộc sống cô độc, cậu thích thu mình trong 4 góc phòng trọ ngổn ngang, lổn nhổn bừa bộn tủ lạnh, thức ăn, chiếc bàn vừa là bàn học vừa là bàn ăn…
Có nhiều định kiến phổ biến về những tuổi thiếu niên n.ổi lo.ạn, rằng nguồn cơn của tâ.m lý b.ất ổn thường được quy là do những khi.ếm kh.uyết về tinh thần, hoặc do những ch.ấn thương trong quá khứ, mà cụ thể là đến từ gia đình và các mối quan hệ xã giao. Tuy nhiên, trong câu chuyện học đường của đôi bạn trẻ Hasegawa và Ninagawa, tác giả Risa Wataya đã cho tôi thấy, những góc nhìn rộng mở và có phần cảm thông hơn.
Như hai cánh chim chung một lối về, cả Hasegawa và Ninagawa cùng chọn lựa cuộc sống thu mình với thế gian, nhưng đó không phải là hậu quả của bất kỳ một dư chấn tâm lý. Bản thân lối sống của hai đứa trẻ cũng phản ánh hai thái độ sống khác biệt, hai cách định nghĩa “sự c.ô đ.ơ.n” của hai đứa trẻ cũng khiến tôi không thể không nhìn nhận một cách nghiêm túc.
Trái với một Hasegawa luôn ngạo nghễ, thậm chí có phần khoa trương với lối sống khép mình, thì Ninagawa luôn lặng lẽ, an phận trong thế giới nhỏ bé của mình. Ninagawa không quan tâm lời ra tiếng vào, thậm chí không ngần ngại cho bạn bè thấy thế giới cô độc mà bản thân yêu quý, nếu họ muốn. Và nếu Ninagawa chấp nhận sự cô độc như một điều cần thiết để cậu dồn sự tập trung vào sở thích idol, thì Hasegawa, thú vị làm sao, lại tôn sùng sự c.ô đơ.n, đến độ cô không ngại ra vẻ kh.inh thường, ch.ê bai, đôi khi mỉa móc các bạn cùng lứa vì cách sống dựa dẫm vào nhau của họ.
Tương tác giữa hai đứa trẻ cũng gợi cho tôi nhiều suy nghĩ, rằng thực ra có những con người c.ô đơ.n không phải vì họ không thể hòa nhập, mà đơn giản chỉ vì đó là lối sống của họ. Giữa hai nhân vật, tôi nghiêng về quan niệm của Hasegawa hơn, rằng nếu ở trong đám đông đó mà bản thân cảm thấy còn cô đơn hơn cả khi ở một mình, thì có lẽ rút ra khỏi đám đông vẫn tốt hơn, cho riêng cá thể đó. Một phần vì tôi cũng có hơi hướm “sợ người” giống Hasegawa, nhưng mặt khác tôi muốn tin rằng đây là lời nhắc nhở bản thân nên mạnh mẽ trong phương châm sống của mình.
Thứ nữa, là có phải thích sống cô đ.ơ.n nghĩa là… bản thân sẽ mãi mãi đ.ơn độ.c hay không? Đến đây, cuốn sách lại vạch ra cho tôi một giả thuyết rất thú vị về cách một người cô đơn kết giao với một người cô đơn khác. Không cầu kì, không ồn ào hay phải dựa trên bất kỳ khuôn phép nào, tình bạn giữa Hasegawa với Ninagawa cứ lặng lẽ mà nảy nở. Bắt đầu từ sự chú ý về “cuộc sống c.ô độ.c” của đối phương, kế đến là sự tò mò về một thế giới nội tâm khác biệt với mình, để rồi hai đứa trẻ nhận ra trong mình vẫn tồn tại “một nửa thế giới” dành cho một ai đó. Liệu đó có phải tình yêu? Tôi không dám chắc. “Cú đá” mà Hasegawa định dành cho Ninagawa ở cuối truyện có phải “đá yêu” hay đơn giản chỉ là tính cách kì cục của cô nàng? Tôi càng không dám đoàn mò. Nhưng một điều tôi biết rằng, là qua những tương tác đáng yêu đó, tôi nhận ra dù một cá nhân có cô đơn, có thu mình lại bao nhiêu, thì vẫn tiềm ẩn khát khao mãnh liệt về việc yêu, được yêu và thấu hiểu thế giới bên ngoài vỏ bọc của người ấy.
Dung hòa giữa việc lột tả những vụn vặt đời thường trong tâm tư những thiếu niên tuổi mới lớn, tác giả Risa Wataya đã thông qua đó mà giải mã những ẩn ức trong các mối quan hệ, tình bạn, tình yêu và trên hết là tuyên ngôn làm bạn với nỗi cô đơn rất ngược đời của một bộ phận giới trẻ hiện đại.

Although I read the Japanese original soon after Wataya won the Akutagawa Prize—Japan’s most prestigious literary award for promising writers—with this novella in 2003, I didn’t recall much more than that it was a convincing depiction of high school life: the alienation, the cliques, the teachers, the solipsistic smallness of life. One example:
Recently I had the opportunity to meet Wataya, who is completely unaffected and charming, about as far from any stereotypical prima donna author-figure as it seems possible to be. In preparation, I decided to read the English translation, I Want to Kick You in the Back, by Julianne Neville, that was published in 2015.
Neville does a good job of rendering the language spoken by the high school students who populate Wataya’s novella. She did lose me sometimes: “What I was looking at was a photo of [the singer] Oli-chan’s face taped on top of the body of a nude model, one that almost resembled her, but not quite, giving it an uncanny valley feel” (p.83), for example. I have no idea what “an uncanny valley feel” might be; the original (p.56) mentions Sellotape covered in fingerprints and that the nude is a girl, not yet fully developed.
For the most part translation is a thankless task: you don’t get any academic credit for it and everyone else has their own ideas about how you could have done it better. So let me not carp, but rather congratulate the translator on her work—work that should ensure Wataya’s novella reaches a new audience.

Recently I had the opportunity to meet Wataya, who is completely unaffected and charming, about as far from any stereotypical prima donna author-figure as it seems possible to be. In preparation, I decided to read the English translation, I Want to Kick You in the Back, by Julianne Neville, that was published in 2015.
Neville does a good job of rendering the language spoken by the high school students who populate Wataya’s novella. She did lose me sometimes: “What I was looking at was a photo of [the singer] Oli-chan’s face taped on top of the body of a nude model, one that almost resembled her, but not quite, giving it an uncanny valley feel” (p.83), for example. I have no idea what “an uncanny valley feel” might be; the original (p.56) mentions Sellotape covered in fingerprints and that the nude is a girl, not yet fully developed.
For the most part translation is a thankless task: you don’t get any academic credit for it and everyone else has their own ideas about how you could have done it better. So let me not carp, but rather congratulate the translator on her work—work that should ensure Wataya’s novella reaches a new audience.

Hatsu jest samotna. Funkcjonuje na obrzeżach klasy, bo w liceum zasady są tyleż proste, co okrutne: albo się dostosujesz, albo nie istniejesz. Hatsu nie jest tą, którą wybiera się do pracy w grupie, którą zaprasza się na imprezy, z którą siedzi się w stołówce. Dziewczyna jest inteligentna, doskonale zna zasady gry, ale trochę nie umie w nią grać, trochę nie chce. Z jednej strony samotność dźwięczy, z drugiej dopasowanie do reszty wydaje się czymś wstrętnym.
Innym outsiderem jest Ninagawa, chłopak, który ma obsesję na punkcie Orichan, modelki, którą Hatsu kiedyś spotkała osobiście. To spotkanie czyni ją fascynującą w oczach chłopaka. Obserwujemy coś na kształt dziwacznego trójkąta: Hatsu, Ninagawa i unoszący się wszędzie duch Orichan. Czy to jest szansa na przełamanie samotności?

No i - jak to @wydawnictwokirin nas już przyzwyczaiło - sporo wartościowych przypisów.

**Intriguing story ruined by poor writing/translation**
Thank goodness this book is short because it was a struggle to read.
I was intrigued by the story of an adolescent girl funnelling her frustration and loneliness into a sadistic desire to bully someone else. I'm sure most people who have been bullied recognise that desire to feel powerful by manipulating others. Just a shame the translation was so poor.
I first thought the voice of a young girl was perfect, but this characterization was quickly lost after a few pages. Odd choices of words and passive sentences made this text feel like it was directly translated (such as "pleading division" instead of "cheer club" or "thumb toe" instead of "big toe"). There were a number of British words and phrases at the start but more American phrases in the latter half of the story, making the English inconsistent. Character's dialogue often didn't match their age/gender, and spoken lines weren't broken up onto separate lines, which combined with long paragraphs, made the story difficult to read.
Overall the English writing was a mess that took away my enjoyment of the story.
In a way I felt like Hatsu. I just want to kick this story in the back.

If you'd like to look into the mind of a Japanese teenager, this would be a great place to start. Wataya wrote this novel, her second, as a university student, and you can tell. The intense introspection and the Every Little Thing Means Something mentality are hallmarks of being a young adult, and her use of metaphors -- often quite charming and/or striking -- is something that a lot of older writers give up on. In the United States, this could probably pass as a YA novel. Think of it as a Japanese Eleanor & Park -- maybe a bit darker and quirkier, but altogether authentic.

This is a zero-star translation of a five-star book. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The style in the translation is inconsistent and there are awkward grammatical structures and spelling errors. The translator also managed to make each character completely two-dimensional. Very impressive.
Struck by lightening? Really?
I skimmed the original Japanese text, which is much more engaging. The characters are more believable and pathetic. I hope Wataya considers using a different translator and editor for English language translations of her work in the future.

この本を読むこと自体が楽しかったし、内容も興味深いと思ったが、なんであの背中をそんなに蹴りたくなる、その動機というか、考え方が分からない。やっぱり日本の本にはよくそういう、私みたいな外人に理解しきれない、ちょっと変なところがあったりするよね。
I liked the book, but I couldn't understand the desire to kick that back. I was reminded of how there always seems to be some weird and not-quite-understandable element in most Japanese books I've come across. I did enjoy reading it though, especially the honest, no-nonsense style, and the chance of a sneak peek into the life of Japanese high-school students.

Solo con gli occhi è il racconto breve vincitore nel 2003 del prestigioso Premio Akutagawa. Risa Wataya, ai tempi diciannovenne, divenne l'autrice più giovane ad essere insignita di tale riconoscimento. Edito Einaudi Editore, è attualmente fuori catalogo.
Il titolo originale è Keritai Senaka 蹴りたい背中, letteralmente "Una schiena che voglio calciare". Un titolo a primo acchito strano e perverso, ma in realtà emblematico della storia che si dischiude davanti ai nostri occhi.
Hasegawa Hatsu è l'orgogliosa, e spesso fastidiosa, voce narrante. Una giovane ragazza che affronta con difficoltà il passaggio dalla scuola media al liceo.
L'adolescenza è un periodo di transizione complesso e confusionario; Hatsu non riuscendo a tenere il passo con i cambiamenti che avvengono nella sua vita, si ritrova sola, senza amici. La sua migliore amica delle medie, Kinuyo, si è integrata velocemente con i nuovi compagni, ma per quanto lei cerchi di coinvolgere Hatsu, quest'ultima crea un muro di superiorità e orgoglio invalicabile.
Eppure dietro a questa maschera si nasconde una ragazza desiderosa di essere accettata, ma il cui orgoglio le impedisce di scendere dal piedistallo creando terra bruciata attorno a sé.
Hatsu instaurerà uno strano rapporto con Ninagawa, altro outsider della classe e fanatico della modella Oli-chan. Ninagawa non solo è emarginato all'interno della classe, ma ha alzato una barriera anche all'interno della propria casa, cercando di sfuggire al controllo dei genitori.
Si nasconde nella sua stanza nella quale trova un'effimera indipendenza: mangia da solo, lava e stende i propri vestiti e non parla con i suoi genitori. È un'ombra, uno spirito che aleggia nella casa e cerca in ogni modo di non farsi notare da sua madre.
Il punto di connessione tra Hatsu e Ninagawa sarà proprio la modella Oli-chan. Hatsu racconta al ragazzo di averla incontrata qualche anno prima all'interno di un centro commerciale, destando in lui curiosità e un pizzico di invidia.
Il rapporto tra i due ragazzi è indecifrabile: è amicizia, è amore o è solo la voglia di colmare il vuoto attorno a se stessi? L'autrice non darà delle risposte né è suo desiderio scandagliare nei minimi dettagli la relazione tra Hatsu e Ninagawa.
Però sono certa di una cosa: Solo con gli occhi non è una storia d'amore adolescenziale. Non è la storiella tra i banchi di scuola, non è ciò che si può trovare all'interno di uno shojo manga.
È un racconto di formazione attraverso la solitudine e l'emarginazione. Risa Wataya è riuscita a delineare i sentimenti contrastanti caratteristici dell'adolescenza: la chiusura in se stessi, la ricerca della propria indipendenza, quel senso di ingenua onnipotenza.
I personaggi sono estremamente reali e sfaccettati. Non si prova compassione né pena nei loro confronti, anzi il più delle volte Hatsu risulta antipatica e insopportabile. Eppure in certi comportamenti ho rivisto la me ragazzina, mi sono rivista in quel senso di superiorità che mostra verso i suoi compagni, una superiorità fasulla che cela la volontà di essere accettata, di avere degli amici accanto a sé e potersi divertire.
Una rappresentazione vera e senza filtri di com'è essere adolescenti.

My main problem with this book is that Hatsu is a teenager : she doesn't really know what she wants, she has a superiority complex toward her classmates, she might be attracted to a boy but she might not, she is sullen, she is uncomfortable with people rejecting her but she is doing most of the rejecting and so on.
Her friend Kinuyo is more open but she's not really bright, the boy she has a crush on (?), Ninagawa, is obsessed (bordering stalkerish) about a pop-star who's not really famous : he's seedy and not really interesting either.
It was supposed to be a sensitive read about teenagers, I found it mostly boring with an unlikable main character. I finished it, though, but it did not bring me much. Which surprised me because I really enjoyed her other novel, not translated in English, Pauvre chose (= Poor thing), that I found to have a deeper meaning underneath the comedy.

A coming-of-age premise with identity and adolescent alienation as the main theme. Following Hatsu, a socially awkward schoolgirl who forms an unusual bond with Ninagawa; a boy from her class who is obsessed with a fashion model that Hatsu once met.
I loved how despite it carried one’s emotional messiness, it still served me with an appealing friendship tale, bit sentimental and tense yet intrigued me much to see their dynamics as well that perspective of being an outsider from both Hatsu and Ninagawa’s narratives. Totally loved Hatsu’s tone and her raw emotional chaos, bit playful and cheeky on the interactions; of the strange connection, empathy or frustration, and I liked it so much how the plot firmly committed to the title and brought that ‘I want to kick you in the back’ until to the last paragraph.

Książka "Plecy, które chcę kopnąć" trafiła do mnie w ramach book touru i zaskoczyło mnie jaką króciutka jest. I przy tej długości jest bardzo dużo miejsca na opisy zwykłego życia, pogody, budowy czyjegoś domu, wnętrza lodówki, wyglądu innych, oddechu czy wzroku. Mamy po prostu do czynienia z większym skupieniem się na naturaliźmie opisów niż na fabułę, bo z tą jest tak, że "na dwoje babka wróżyła" czy też "jeden rabin powie tak, a drugi powie nie". Wystarczy z resztą popatrzeć na opinie w internecie - jedni interpretują uczucia bohaterki jako zakochanie się, inni interpretują je jako chęć wyżycia się i znęcania. A odpowiedzi że świecą szukać, bo tak naprawdę dostajemy tu kilka urywków z życia bohaterki, w których ona sama obserwuje głównie życie szkolne i kolegę z klasy, który ma niezdrową obsesję na punkcie idolki. Z resztą gość jest napisany najkonkretniej i mniej więcej wiadomo o tym jaki on jest i jaka wobec niego jest rodzina - od jego traktowania, przez to jak zbudowany jest jego dom i w jakiej izolacji on mieszka. O rodzinie głównej bohaterki nie wiemy praktycznie nic, więc ciężej nam o niej wysnuć wnioski.
Na dwoje babka wróżyła również z przesłaniem, bo możemy się doszukać tutaj jakichś głębokich przemyśleń, albo mieć wrażenie, że dostajemy tylko jakiś czubek góry lodowej nie dostając się pod powierzchnię. Myślę, że dobrze zrobiłoby tej książce skrócenie jej o kilka niepotrzebnych opisów, albo wydłużenie jej na rzecz zagłębienia się w psychikę postaci.
Po tej książce żałuję jedynie, że Muji w Polsce jest tylko w Warszawie, bo człowiek chciałby się wybrać do tego sklepu - wydaje się taki przytulny. Muszę również pochwalić tłumaczenie, bo dla mnie jest w pełni zrozumiałe, a słyszałam same źle rzeczy o angielskim ;)

คนเขียนได้รางวัล Akutagawa Prize จากเล่มนี้ตอนอายุแค่ 19 ปี (ได้ปีเดียวกับ Snake and Earrings ของฮิโตมิ คะเนฮะระ) เลยลองซื้อมาอ่านดู ปรากฏว่าเป็นหนังสือที่ประหลาดมากๆ
พล็อตว่าด้วยความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเด็ก ม.ปลาย สองคน คนหนึ่งเป็นหญิงขี้เหงาที่��อบปลีกตัวจากหมู่เพื่อนและ(พยายาม)ให้ค่ากับความสัมพันธ์เฉพาะที่ตัวเองอยากจะให้ กับอีกคนเป็นชายที่ชีวิตขับเคลื่อนไปด้วยความคลั่งไคล้ต่อนางแบบหญิงคนหนึ่งเท่านั้น ความสัมพันธ์ประหลาดเริ่มต้นจริงๆ จังๆ เมื่อฝ่ายหลังรู้ว่าฝ่ายแรกเคยพบและพูดคุยดาราหญิงคนนั้นตัวเป็นๆ มาแล้ว ขณะที่ตัวเองยังไม่เคย
ที่ว่าประหลาดคือ ทั้งเรื่องนี้ - ทั้งความสัมพันธ์นี้ - ไม่ได้มีอะไรหวือหวา ไม่ได้เป็นเรื่องรักของนักเรียนวัยใส แต่เป็นการก่อตัวของความรู้สึกประหลาดๆ ของฝ่ายหญิงที่อยากจะเตะหลังฝ่ายชาย (ที่เอาแต่สนใจนางแบบสาวคนนั้นตลอดเวลาที่อยู่ (และไม่อยู่) ด้วยกัน) สักครั้งสองครั้ง
แง่หนึ่ง เราว่าไอ้ "ความอยากเตะหลัง" ก็เป็นทางเลือกที่ดีในการอธิบายว่าความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างทั้งสองคน (หรือจริงๆ เป็นความสัมพันธ์ที่ฝ่ายหญิงในฐานะผู้เล่าเรื่องมีต่อฝ่ายชาย) เป็นอย่างไร
มันก็ไม่ได้เป็นรัก ไม่ได้เกลียด เป็นความยินดีที่จะพูดคุยกับใครบางคนที่เห็นว่าคุณสำคัญกว่าที่คนอื่นๆ เห็น แต่ขณะเดียวกัน ความสำคัญของคุณต่อเขาก็กลับเป็นรองคนอีกคนหนึ่งที่คุณไม่แน่ใจว่าควรจะนับว่าเป็นคู่ต่อสู้ด้วยหรือไม่ เพราะใจจริงคุณก็ไม่แน่ใจว่าความยินดีที่คุณมีต่อคนคนนั้นเป็นอะไรมากกว่านั้นหรือเปล่า

ที่ว่าประหลาดคือ ทั้งเรื่องนี้ - ทั้งความสัมพันธ์นี้ - ไม่ได้มีอะไรหวือหวา ไม่ได้เป็นเรื่องรักของนักเรียนวัยใส แต่เป็นการก่อตัวของความรู้สึกประหลาดๆ ของฝ่ายหญิงที่อยากจะเตะหลังฝ่ายชาย (ที่เอาแต่สนใจนางแบบสาวคนนั้นตลอดเวลาที่อยู่ (และไม่อยู่) ด้วยกัน) สักครั้งสองครั้ง
แง่หนึ่ง เราว่าไอ้ "ความอยากเตะหลัง" ก็เป็นทางเลือกที่ดีในการอธิบายว่าความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างทั้งสองคน (หรือจริงๆ เป็นความสัมพันธ์ที่ฝ่ายหญิงในฐานะผู้เล่าเรื่องมีต่อฝ่ายชาย) เป็นอย่างไร
มันก็ไม่ได้เป็นรัก ไม่ได้เกลียด เป็นความยินดีที่จะพูดคุยกับใครบางคนที่เห็นว่าคุณสำคัญกว่าที่คนอื่นๆ เห็น แต่ขณะเดียวกัน ความสำคัญของคุณต่อเขาก็กลับเป็นรองคนอีกคนหนึ่งที่คุณไม่แน่ใจว่าควรจะนับว่าเป็นคู่ต่อสู้ด้วยหรือไม่ เพราะใจจริงคุณก็ไม่แน่ใจว่าความยินดีที่คุณมีต่อคนคนนั้นเป็นอะไรมากกว่านั้นหรือเปล่า

This was good, but I'll probably have forgotten a lot of it in a month. I like that she was able to portray an unusual but convincing sort of affection between people who are drawn to but don't necessarily like one another. It's nice to be reminded that teenagers can be written to have nuanced relationships amongst all the Bella Swan crap that's out there.
Chris says there are translation issues, and I choose to believe him because this thing doesn't read very well at all. There are also a ton of typos. I've never dealt with One Peace Books before, but someone over there needs to figure out their life.

„Chciałam, żeby mnie dostrzegano. Chciałam, żeby mnie akceptowano”.
Risa Wataya w swojej książce przedstawia temat osamotnienia w wśród ludzi. Jeśli chodzi o Hatsu i Nigawe to nie za bardzo zyskali moją sympatię, jakoś nie potrafiłam się do nich zbliżyć. Jeśli chodzi o fabułę, nie było źle, ale też genialnie. Nie sądzę, żeby ta historia została ze mną na dużej, z tego powodu, że nie wzbudziła we mnie tylu emocji, jakich oczekiwałam. Sama książka ma ponad sto stron, chociaż myślę, że mogłaby być zdecydowanie dłuższa.
Rzadko sięgam po literaturę japońską więc kiedy miałam okazje przeczytać ten tytuł dzięki wydawnictwu i nie żałuje. Natomiast ten tytuł nie zdobył mojego serca. Był w porządku i tyle.

Âm hưởng mờ đục tồn tại bụi mịn như một chiếc khăn lau phấn khô khốc chèn giữa các câu chữ trong cuốn tiểu thuyết này. Ngay từ những dòng đầu tiên, Risa đã cho người đọc thấy sự xứng đáng của cuốn tiểu thuyết với danh giải Akutagawa năm 2003, khi mà năm đó một cuốn sách khác t rất hưởng thụ thoái mái là Snakes and Earrings của Kanehara Hitomi cũng nằm trong danh sách đoạt giải.
Cuốn tiểu thuyết đi từ những suy nghĩ phản xã hội một cách ngây ngô của cô bé học sinh trung học Hatsu cho tới "sự chú ý của cô đã va phải vào ánh mắt" tập trung của cậu bạn cùng lớp Ninagawa với hình cô người mẫu Ori-chan trong cuốn tạp chí. Sau một hồi khoe rằng mình đã gặp cô người mẫu đó rồi thì Hatsu được Ninagawa mời về nhà gấp vì sự otaku cuồng nhiệt của cậu ta chỉ để tới nơi đó chụp lại những chỗ cô Ori-chan từng ngồi.
Ninagawa là một otaku cuồng nhiệt cô người mẫu Ori-chan tới độ, cậu "nhặt nhạnh" mảnh đời của cô ấy đem cất giữ vào trong một chiếc hộp. Và mặc dù Hatsu đã thấy sự biến thái của cậu khi cắt hình mặt Ori-chan vào hình khoả thân của một cô bé chưa dậy thì xong, thì Ninagawa vẫn thấy chuyện đó là bình thường. Việc xuất hiện một cậu chàng otaku với tình cảm nồng nhiệt chân thật bên cạnh cuộc sống đầy giả tạo của cô bé Hatsu này thì rõ ràng cô bé thấy hứng thú và tò mò.

L’appel du pied est un roman qui me faisait envie car je pensais que j’allais passer un agréable moment de détente mais au contraire j’en ressors plutôt frustré avec cette lecture. J’ai choisi cette lecture pour mon challenge « Raconte- moi l’Asie » et je ne commence pas très bien ce challenge. Le synopsis laisse présager une histoire anodine sur la vie lycéenne d’Hasegawa mais on se retrouve avec une histoire dérangeante. J’ai tout d’abord plutôt aimé le début du livre, ce qui m’a plus c’est surtout cette ambiance qui est à la fois lourde et tranquille. Hasegawa est d’abord très touchant car elle est mise à l’écart et comprendre ce qu’elle ressent et sa vision la rend très touchante car on voit le mal qu’elle a pour se fondre dans cette masse, si elle ne reste pas avec les autres ce n’est pas à cause d’une timidité maladive, non c’est tout simplement car elle ne veut pas s’embêter avec des gens qui n’en veulent pas la peine et qui jouent un rôle toute la journée.
Jusqu’à on peut comprendre véritablement ses intentions mais voilà elle va faire la rencontre de Ninagawa. À partir de cet instant, sa comporte va complément changé car je l’ai trouvé très incohérente de vouloir suivre un garçon comme lui ou encore même pire avoir des sentiments. Concernant Ninagawa, il a réussi à me faire peur avec son obsession pour cette chanteuse Oli-Chang. Il collection tout et n’importe quoi venant d’elle et cet amour qu’il a pour elle est vraiment très dérangeant. Ça me mettait même mal à l’aise.
En conclusion, L’appel du pied est vraiment un livre que je ne recommande pas car autant l’histoire est insipide car il ne se passe pratiquement rien mais surtout la fin est brute que j’en suis même venue demander s’il ne manquait pas des pages ou un chapitre ! Une déception …

The relationship dynamics between the two main characters must be one of the most unique relationships I've ever encountered in literature, something I can't put a name to. Is it friendship, or is it some sort of twisted adolescent romantic feelings? It is probably neither, but the connection between two kids having a difficult time connecting with anybody else in the world. Wataya Riisa's writing is deceptively simple, so much that on the first read it took me just 2-3 hours to finish; I tossed it aside and didn't think too much about the content. However, as I finished reading, I found myself pondering back on it more and more, and finally read it again and again. For those who have always felt a sense of being an outsider, the characters may very well resonate with your experience. Afterall, one can feel the loneliest when they are, well, not alone.

Książka sama w sobie była dla mnie nijaka, nie jestem nawet w stanie powiedzieć o niej coś więcej. Była ona bardzo lekka i szybka do przeczytania idealna by wyrwać się z zastoju czytelniczego ale wciąż pozostaje ona dla mnie nijaka.

Risa Wataya tiene una prosa ágil, con diálogos muy naturales que reflejan bien el mundo adolescente. Me encanta su estilo minimalista y introspectivo, hay un fuerte carácter psicológico en los monólogos interiores de Hatsu.
