Two Minutes To Midnight a Carpe Noctem Novel, the first in a brand new series from DragonCat Press. Topaz Thompson was happy as she was, thank you very much. A string of bad relationships and disastrous blind dates has done little to restore her faith in a happy ever after. And now here she is, spending her holiday time going on yet another wild goose chase of the supernatural kind. The last thing she expects to find in a pretentious goth club in Edinburgh, is the man of her dreams. Logan McGregor had always known he could never love anyone as much as he loved his wife, who was tragically murdered many years before. So imagine his surprise when the beautiful Topaz crosses his path, stirring up long forgotten feelings, showing him that there might be hope after all. This is a story of a love that spans centuries, proving that when fate has you in her sights, not even death can keep you apart, true love will always win out. A Soul Mate is forever.
I would never call myself a fan of anything in the romance genre, though I have been a huge fan of the fantasy genre for as long as I can remember. When I started reading the book, I immediately found myself being able to relate to the main character. Her views on men, dating, work, and the world in general is so similar to my own. I must admit, when I first read the word “Vampire” I thought, “Oh no, here we go again.” It turned out to be so much better than I would have thought, and it’s really taught me not to a judge a book by its vampire. I like how she took the story of vampires and twisted it slightly, while also keeping them as more traditional vampires. As a fantasy reader I wish there were more action, but the “action” scenes definitely made up for that. This book is one of the best ones I’ve read lately, Thank you so much Willow Salix for being a super awesome author.
I needed a light read and I found it! Looking around for something outside of my normal reding line-up, I really enjoyed this one, nicely written, amusing at times, something that hit the spot for me. I don't know yet if I will be continuing with the Series as such but it was fun while it lasted.
Being a fan of fantasy – romance books, this book was on my “must get” list. And the first instalment of Willow Salix’ came as a very nice surprise as it’s more than just another romance book with vampires; it feels like an introduction of some sort, so if you are new to this kind of books, maybe read her books first, as it offers enough details regarding the supernatural, witchcraft, vampires, all set in one of the impressive locations in the world, Edinburgh (but I am partial to this city, as I simply love it).
Willow’s stile of writing offers you the feeling that you are actually there, it certainly brings vivid images in your mind as you read. The book is highly entertaining, fast paced, with main characters that you can’t help yourself but to root for (Topaz, the main female char, captures your heart from the very beginning with her personality, as she is practical – in this most unpractical and fantastic world). I loved how the action of the book flows, and it’s a natural passing from a chapter to the other. It’s one of those books that you cannot let go of and you end up reading until you finish (even if it’s 6 am in the morning and you must go to work in 3 hours). I recommend Two minutes to midnight as you won’t be disappointed!
PS: Did I mention about the gifts that came with the book? Those were a really nice surprise, first time I received this with a book :) Miss Willow knows how to make her fans happy, through her writing and the personal touch on the books!
I am not a big fan of vampire romances, but Two Minutes to Midnight by Willow Salix was an astounding surprise for me. I love it so much that definitely is going to reread it and not once. The writing is superb! I savored every sentence. Willow Salix is a great master of making you relish details, plunging into the subtleties of the characters’ feelings and sensations, making everyday life shimmer with miracles we normally do not notice. Topaz—the main heroine—doesn’t fit in this world, but who of us really does, even if we refuse to admit it to ourselves. With all her might, she tried to prove that this world is much more than it’s commonly accepted to think about it. However, when she comes across the indisputable evidence of her rightness, she is not quite ready to accept it. The same way as she is not quite ready to accept what she herself really is. It’s always so; we can show our full potential only when we meet those who don’t mind dealing with it. Alas, not all of them are those who love us. Topaz meets both and comes to know about herself much more than she could ever expect. And here, you can’t tell whether it’s natural or supernatural things what amazes you most. Two Minutes to Midnight is a stunning example of exquisite erotica, full of true Love and spiritual growth of the characters.
This book had been recommended to me by several friends knowing that I enjoy romance books, who also happened to mention that the author was local to me. One of these friends had lent me a copy of this book, which I'm ashamed to say, it sat on my bookshelf waiting to be read. Another friend brought me the first two books of the series at Christmas, and again they sat on my shelf, until now. I cant believe I hadn't given this story a chance earlier, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters. It took me back to my reading roots as such, Vampires and romance/erotic romance. It was the story that I didn't know that I needed. It has humour, romance, detail to attention, hot sex and vampires. The story feels modern and flows well, its a definite passionate page turner and I can not wait to dive into the next book to see where the author takes it next.
I found this story to be refreshingly different! Topaz was a character I found myself relating to on so many different levels throughout the story, which made me feel really invested in her story and how her relationships were going to develop as the story continued. The story itself was well paced, and had just the right combinations of funny moments to more serious moments. The romance was steamy and the action bits were just enough to keep things interesting. Definitely look forward to reading more from this author!
This was a highly entertaining, sexy, and romantic read. It featured a strong female character, a witch, who falls in love with a vampire. The hero in the book is sexy and strong, and the two leads make a terrific couple you can really root for. The book had the perfect amount of worldbuilding for my tastes; enough to set the scene but not so much that it was boring or overwhelmingly detailed. Just a few too many typos, but a great read overall.
This book made me feel like I was reading something on Wattpad instead of a professionally published novel - lots of grammar errors and strange word choices that don’t fit the context. The setup and characterization all just seem a bit flat and generic. I didn’t make it past the first few chapters before completely losing interest, and fantasy romance is my favorite genre. I suspect this book is aimed at more of a middle school crowd, so my mistake.
Vampires, werewolf s, witches and lots of love. This book has it all and more. This ones just the beginning. You can curl up with this book and enjoy the love and adventure with Logan and Topaz it's never a dull moment. You will love them and their story. You will also love the surprises too. Enjoy it. I did.
This is a good book would be excellent if the grammar was edited before release. This is a good first book to a series and I will read the rest once they have been edited.
A lot goes on in one week for Topaz. And meeting Logan is the best thing! Lots happen in this story, its fast paced, but flows smoothly. Good quick read. 👏
