Why pay that hefty fee to see the Statue of Liberty up close when you can do it for free? Why shell out good money for a happy-hour hamburger when zero is your preferred price? Of course, some things in New York are worth paying for — like the city’s tastiest street food, or the smoothies from that little-known bicycle-powered smoothie machine in Brooklyn. These are just a few of the treats this book reveals for the “young, broke, and beautiful” crowd. Based on the underground hit and "Best Local Zine" (San Francisco Bay Guardian), Broke-Ass Stuart's Guide to Living Cheaply in New York gives the low-down on the best of the Big Apple’s cheap eats, drinks, buys, and more in the witty, gritty, anecdotal style that made the zine on which the series is based an underground smash.
This is the best book I've read this year, only because I know I am going to come back to this book until I move out of New York City. Broke-Ass Stuart gives an in depth description of the cheapest places to eat, drink, and shop around the city, except the Bronx. The section on Queens was very brief but he pretty much covered the commercial spots in Queens that are worth going to. The best part is that he made me laugh out loud. His stories are legendary, and his wit is unmatched. I will definitely go to the places he recommends and every time I visit one of his recommended spots, I will edit this review. Oh! I can't wait!
If you're going to San Fran - this is the book to read. Stuart know all of the best bars and restaurants, tells you where to buy mushrooms and weed. Stuart keeps it real.
So great! The guidebook I wish I could write--all funny opinion and weird stories (and swearing). Makes me actually want to go out to bars again, which is saying a lot.
