I felt too dumb to read this book until I discovered the end notes and then everything made a lot more sense. I wish they had been footnotes. I would have felt much smarter. In all seriousness, I liked this book a lot. The poems had a very dense but light feel. I enjoyed the series. Some of the lines were quite striking, especially the ones about the speaker as a young boy. Lovely. I should quote them, but I am too lazy to get up and find the book right now. You'll have to trust me on this one.

The poems are only the first part of the story. What about the ghost poems behind the poems? Jonathan's familiarity with brokenness and absence serves his poems well. The Wellesley sequence will break your heart.
