This isn't quite the book I expected it to be. I thought it'd be more of a structured look at the workings of feline physio- and psychology, but it's more of a hodgepodge of facts, tidbits, trivia, and anecdotes about cats. There is no real rhyme or reason to how the information is presented, and most of the snippets read like forwards you might find in your inbox or online.
I put this on my "abandoned" shelf because I didn't read every single page. I started to do it that way and found it almost tedious ~ I couldn't get into the book and instead flipped around here and there, which allowed me to enjoy it more. This is a perfect book to keep on the bedside table, in the car, or in the bathroom for whenever you want something quick to read. You can read a few of the facts before setting the book down and won't feel the need to pick it up again until the next time you have a few minutes to kill.
The title of the book is misleading as I thought it was going to be about the latest cutting-edge knowledge pertaining to either proper care of a cat or of the latest discoveries pertaining to properly interpreting cats’ behavior. It was neither. Rather it was collection of random facts of and about cats. It contained a little bit of just about anything pertaining to cats. Everything from cats of famous people, examples of cats in the works of fine art, excerpts from literary works that mention a cat, quotes by famous people that references cats, cats in film, guidelines and tips for the proper care of cats, cat jokes, superstitions about cats, cats who made their mark in history, etc. The tips on cat care were pretty basic - anyone owning a cat would be already familiar with the information - so there was nothing new there. The book was compiled by a British author and its publisher was a British company, so just about all of the news worthy information was specific to Britain. Likewise, its use of words specific to the British language, e.g. mog for cat. But overall, it was a pleasant and entertaining read and did provide plenty of new and unusual information about the cat. Cat fanciers should enjoy this one.
As I was reading this my cat Molly came up to me and started to nose about. When I told her what I was reading she got that glint in her eye, the one that tells me that I'm a stupid head . She then stuck her tail and nose in the air and told me all I ever needed to know.
Know how to operate the pull tab to my can of food, keep fresh water in my dish, always keep my potties clean. And most importantly, remember that I own you!
I bought this used for a cat lover and read it before sending it on. It's a random collection of trivia, cat care, literary quotations, and puns. The British punctuation was distracting, but hey, it's a Brit book.
This book is lovely! I love the mix of facts, storytelling, and tips and tricks. I love the page layout, it makes for easy reading and good stopping points. And I like the little illustrations! This book isn’t what I expected initially but even better. :)
This is a fun compendium of cat information. It includes lots of facts about cats, cat breeds, and cat care. It also includes brief stories about famous cats and cats owned by famous people. It even includes kitty jokes!
