Valen Kildrake has a problem:
Vampires are real,
and they are very, very hungry.

Armed with ancient spells, weapons of pure silver, holy water, and deep-dish pizza,

confronting death in battle after battle.
But he is only one man against a horde.

Worse, his enemies are getting smarter and bolder.
What will he do when a new fo

Valen is a broken man. He's still recovering from the loss of his father/hunting partner, and he's just now getting back into the fight... Hunting vampires alone is a dangerous business,  but with fewer hunters available, he feels that he must keep on. He was trained by the best, his father... And vengeance is all he has left!
Shesha is not quite human. In fact she doesn't even care for humans, but for reasons of her own, she is also hunting; casting a strange golden light when she takes the he

Alone. Against the Vampires. Taking a stand against the hordes of leeches that feast on the vulnerable, Valen Kildrake does his best to defend humanity. The situation goes from bad to worse as more Hunters of Mars Alator fall to the fangs and claws of the unstoppable, insatiable swarm. Valen is determined to fight, to save those he can under the cover of secrecy, taking the battle directly to the nests.

Valen does his job. He stumbles onward... with a growing sense of futility. Until he meets one

Valen is a vampire hunter, going from city to city, clearing the nests of vampires. As the battles with the vampires become more and more difficult, Valen knows that he is losing the war. With other hunters keeping secrets and a mysterious light source at one scene, Valen does not know who to trust, but when he came across an enigmatic woman playing darts, he knew that he had to put his faith in someone.
The way the author describes Valen, you can sense he is a man on a mission, but that it took

Disclaimer: I was given an ARC of Kinship for an honest review.

This was a very unique read! Caroline Gill is definitely a talented word artist. Set in a dark world where vampires certainly don't glitter and the life of a hunter is far from glamorous, Kinship is a masterfully designed machine.

There are some interesting aspects to this novel that I normally would dislike. For example, the novel contains almost no dialogue. It is a descriptive narration that, frankly, I don't usually enjoy. I lik

I really enjoyed this book and so glad there is more in the series !

It is different to a lot of other Vampire books as in there is no HEA with this one, the fight is real and the odds of Valen and his fellow Vampire Hunters winning the battle are slim and that's what makes this a great read. I really enjoyed Valen's character as he is a worn down guy who has seen and been through a lot and we are taken on a ride to see if he can came out the other end and keep on fighting or if he is just to wor

Kinship is not your average vampire story. In fact, it isn't a romantic look at blood suckers, it casts them in a very nefarious light.  The hunter who we follow has seen more devastation at their hands than we can imagine, and he is not pleased.  He and the other hunters are the last of their kind, trying to fight a scourge that only seems to grow, not diminish.  When faced with doom and gloom, it's easy to get overwhelmed and give up but that isn't Valen's style.  Things get even more complica ...more

Everything that Caroline Gill writes is extremely emotionally charged, so consider yourself warned. If you're looking for a light read that you can share with your grandma, this may not be the best choice. However, if you're looking for something woven from a passionate love of word imagery that pulls you into another world and makes you a part of the story, this is your book. For her first foray into the vampire world, she nailed a unique take on the somewhat abused genre. There is definitely m ...more

I love how this story just flows. For me, this book was like Buffy meets Supernatural. I was never a fan of Buffy, but Supernatural makes this book swoon worthy for me. I love learning about Valen and Adelinde, I can’t wait to get to know them better as this story continues.

Born to a broken world, caught up in the arms of a loving home, I was adored when I was little. Head full of curls and laughter beyond measure were all my memories of childhood. That and a penny jar my sister and I kept, ready to take it to the store. When that didn't happen, we left it in the bushes outside the yard, knowing that we would spend the money tomorrow. Imagine the sorrow we felt when ...more
