I personally find it VERY SAD that children should ever have to learn, at young ages, about the horrors that occur in this world. Unfortunately, terrorism is a fact of modern life and as much as we would like it to it is almost impossible to shield these kids from everything. It is on the news non stop-on radio-on social media-in their classrooms. They are going to find out one way or another and we as adults have to try and explain what and why so as to hopefully alleviate some of their fears.

This is a book that I hope I never have to read again or show my children. But I will because the world we live in is not a kind one 🙁 It is incredibly sad that we need this book but that makes it even more important to read it and use the techniques it advises.

I have had the difficult ask of trying to explain terrorism to my children and am so reassured that Dr Zelinger’s method is similar to my own!

The book is comprised of 2 sections, first a story for children to access and secondly notes for

This book is basically two books in one. Along with a story for children which allows for an honest discussion of the subject, there are also several pages intended for parents/adults. Those pages include scripts to use for those who might not be sure how to begin the discussion, and they allow opportunities for adults to tailor them to the situation.

The illustrations in the children's part of the book are realistic and engaging. They will help draw children into the story without being fright

Trying to explain terrorism to my children before reading this book seemed a bit difficult because as a parent I just want to protect them from all the evil in the world. Even though terrorism is a difficult subject to talk about, I believe that children should be aware of what it is and what they can do to try to be as safe as possible. Please Explain Terrorism To Me makes it easy to have that conversation. It kept the attention of all my children, even my 4 year old! When I finished reading th ...more

This book was amazing! In a world that sadly experiences acts of terrorism, this book will serve as a huge help to many children and parents alike. As an aunt of two nephews and two nieces, this helps me get a little bit of perspective on the sensitivity to their little hearts. As much as we would love to shield them from these acts, it is impossible to do so. We need to remember that children listen and know when bad things are going on. As adults, it is our job to keep that line of communicati ...more

I absolutely loved this book. It's written in a way kids can relate to, and the illustrations are cute. Terrorism is, unfortunately, part of our world today, and kids can't be shielded from it forever. One of the best parts of the book is a section after the story with advice for parents about talking to their children about terrorism. It's meant to help create a bond while explaining a scary subject in a non-scary way, and allows parents to reassure their kids while also making sure they know t ...more

As an adult, terrorism is scary. Imagine being a child and only hearing tidbits of it and seeing pictures of it and overhearing talk, but not knowing what is going on.

We think we are protecting our kids by not saying anything but can you imagine how much worse we are making it in their heads? (I know I am guilty of this for sure.)

When we don’t share, their imagination runs wild.

Fortunately, for this book, it helps explain the situation in a way kids can understand and gives P-E-A-R-L-S of wisdom

The acronym for PEARLS who produce a series of books for parents to share with their children explaining scary topics to help them understand difficult topics. The colourful illustrations which depicts the script help take the edge of the harsh reality off the topic. The way the topic is shown through the eyes of a young person that another young person would understand is exceptional. Also involving the boys friends, school life and family and the

This book is a wide opening for kids and parents about terrorism. The illustrations are so beautiful which kids will love to learn more about this delicate topic. My son who is 14 years old is afraid to fly because he is terrified that the plane will crash. The last time he flew was when he was two years old.

The step by step guidelines are very important and will help the kids understand about the terrorism. I know that in schools, both my kids have drills if something will happen and keep the

I received a copy of the P-E-A-R-L-S of Wisdom book "Please Explain 'Terrorism' To Me by Laurie Zelinger, PhD from a Facebook Book Tour. Dr. Zelinger's book is vividly illustrated by Ann Isreali and split into two sections: one for children to read, and the second for parents to assist in explaining this important yet difficult topic. The story part is written so it can be used for any specific event or just as a generic overview of the topic. The pictures are brightly colored. Overall, I think ...more

With the current climate the world is in and "acts of terrorism" dominating the news it is hard to keep it from the eyes of my inquisitive children, and if I am honest I was finding it hard to explain it all to them, I mean how do you explain it in way to help make them understand without completely scaring them?

This book sets out to do just that. It almost set in two parts - the first part being the story of a boy who catches something on the television about explosions, people dying, and terro
