This is one of three books I bought to help me learn what’s new on my new computer. Unlike most of the books on my reference shelf, I have not read this book cover to cover, but I’ve read quite a bit, and it’s jam packed with useful information. I have a feeling that at some point I’ll be referring back to many sections, including the sections on how to use Windows software on my Mac computer. I suspect someday I’ll be doing just that, even if it’s a bit of a pain. I’m grateful I’ll have this and the other two books available for reference. I’m a little flummoxed with my learning curve with this new computer, and that’s probably why this book’s format doesn’t seem 100% user friendly, but I’ve noticed if I calm down and search, I’ve found what I’m looking for the majority of the time. 4 ½ stars, and for me certainly beats the online manual!
I'm new to the Mac environment. (Really I'm rebooted since my first Mac experience was about a quarter century ago. That makes me feel really old.) I needed some updates regarding how the latest version works. I saw this on the library bookshelf and figured I might as well thumb through it.
Read the 2nd Ed. between Feb 3-4, 2016. Unfortunately, I found this 2009 edition sadly out of date, and it should just be retired. I should have expected that, since technology makes such leaps and bounds from one month to the next. Okay, it did at least encourage me to step through some of the built in functions and applications. Some software product names may have changed (iChat, iCal, MobileMe, etc.), but the basic functional concepts still apply. I will have to look for a more current reference book.
Read the more current 4th Ed. between Feb 5-6, 2016. Much better to have just read this edition instead. Still leaves me much to learn, but not has clueless as before. I have updated my rating to reflect the more current Edition.
