I think the name is a bit misleading. None of these are mysteries (in the idea of someone trying to solve a crime) and I think you could have done it. Something goes missing in a classroom and the children need to use math to figure out if it was stolen or whatever. Instead a more accurate title would have been One Minute Word Problems: 65 Word problems you solve with math, which is fine that that is what it is but it should have been better labeled. My other issue is that some of the answers would have been better with diagrams. They use words to describe the solution, but occasionally I think it would have been clearer to kids what the solution was if they had simply diagramed the solution and maybe just added a couple sentences to explain it.

Bit of a stretch to call the short situations "mysteries". But fun ways to show applications of math in real life.

After each you get the answer and good explanations of how it worked.

I'll have to review what age range this is for but my 6 year old and I had fun with it! For problem #8 (I think - determining which car is best to buy), there needed to be more information (tax, registration, insurance) to arrive at the best, most accurate conclusion.

I liked this book. Then again I was the only one in my class that enjoyed word problems. This book makes it easy to picture what is going on in my head. I recommend it.

Similar to One-minute mysteries, but these are solved with math. Some are good, but this volume is very hit or miss. The volume about science is much better.

I use this as a good way to keep my students entertained when I need something for a short time.
