It is a harrowing tale of being on the precipice of death for a long time, the brutality of war, and the value of friendship. It was difficult for me to get into. I put it down several times. However, once I put in the time, it started to flow for me.

Dry by modern standards but an interesting read about the complexity of the relationship between settlers and Natives in the upper Midwest.

This book was great. The illustrations and photos really brought it to life. It was easy to read and follow and I read it all in one sitting. It's fascinating and a solid edition to anyone's library that likes nonfiction history. I would recommend this book. 4 out of 5 stars.
