This book needs to be made into a movie (or preferable a miniseries). I read A LOT of thrillers, but honestly, few really catches my attention in a way that makes me totally absorbed. WATCH THE GIRLS is one of them. Seriously, I just absolutely loved this book. It got everything I like, dysfunctional families, missing people, creepy little town, people with wolf masks, orgies ... yeah, I bet you're interested now? ;)

The first 1/3 of this book started off so creepy and had so much potential but that is about the only good things I have to say. This book went completely off the rails for me.
For the amount of violence and sex scenes this book had it actually read very much as young adult.
The ending sucked.
2 stars because I managed to finish it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

My sister and I have been trading mysteries back and forth and when she gave me this one, I was so excited. It sounded kind of like NIGHT FILM, one of my favorite thrillers, with an L.A. gothic vibe. And it ended up being all of that and more, with a creepy small town setting, a damaged and tortured child star, a cold case investigation, and a sinister tale of cult horror, obsession, and the worst kind of fame.
First, big ups to my friend ...more

I'm actually very disappointed after reading
Watch the Girls
. The premise sounds amazing: Liv Hendricks is a falling child star who now is a reality television personality on a popular Ghost Hunters type of show. After she's let go by her boss, she drunkenly sets up a funding page to help her venture off on her own webseries that will follow a similar format. Liv gets a strikingly lucrative deal by one of the country's most eccentric movie producers to investigate the disappearances of sever

This was a book that really kept me guessing. When I first read the description for this book, I knew that I had to give it a try. I love a good thriller and this one looked to have a whole lot of promise. Once I got started with this one, I had to know how things would work out. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept the pages turning. I am glad that I decided to take a chance on this one.

In 2003 Actress Olivia Hill had a hit TV show with her sister Gemma and movie roles were beginning to pour in. Their "momager", Desiree, was overbearing and more interested in money than the well being of her daughters and Gemma began a dangerous spiral with drugs and alcohol. Olivia and younger sister Miranda received a frantic call from Gemma asking if they'd pick her up from a party on Mulholland Drive. The evening ended in a car crash: Olivia suffered a traumatic brain injury and Miranda dis

Boy, oh boy, should I have looked at some reviews before jumping into this one, and this one may have been a bit ambitious on the gore/mature side for me.
That was the most depraved thing I've ever read, it ranks second to Dark Places. Through and through, this novel is definitely geared towards adults, and I don't mean new adult, (unless you are in that dark spot in your life, in which I completely recommend this novel. Perspectives can be changed), but adult. The level of content was not somet ...more

I'm so torn on this one... Anything from A3 to A4 star read, in my book! This was such an incredibly quick read if I had more time during the day to read I think I would have read this in two sittings, however work and training got in the way, as it usually does. Some aspects of this book made me cringe because it seemed almost too unrealistic, while other aspects of it cringe because they were very realistic, such as the sadism and very graphic sex scenes. Let's just say this is not the type of

I'm kicking myself that I didn't tear into this the moment it arrived on my doorstep.

I had trouble putting it down. Eventually I could no longer keep my eyes open and had to get some sleep before finishing.
As soon as I woke up all I could think about was...

This book had goods and bads. I was completely drawn in by the title and cover. I figured it would be a bit dark and twisted and I was looking forward to getting sucked into the story. However, it started off with promise but lost me a bit in the middle and concluded decently. I just had such higher hopes so I felt a bit let down.
I am still trying to figure out how I really think, I think my main issue is that I didn't like the main character...

Well I called that ending a million miles away.
So this is the story of Olivia, who used to be a child star, become a adult TV star, and then gets fired. However, 15 years ago she had her youngest sister gone missing. Have never found her she had a strong urge to take a case to find out what happened to all the girls who have gone missing on the "Dark Road". Doing that though may lead to places, and people, she never wanted to know or see.

I hadn't even heard of this book until Nenia put it on my radar. I saw that my library had a copy on the shelves just waiting for me to grab it, so I did. And thus a buddy read was born.
This was basically everything I want in a thriller: dark, smutty, and twisted. And not only that, the aesthetics were top-fucking-notch! The characters were interesting, it was fast-paced, and it kept me throwing out theories left and right.

I am completely in love with this book. It's so intense and so creepy and just really, really good.
Like with Marisha Pessl's Night Film, the horror movies described are completely brutal and unflinching. Part of me wants to watch them and part of me is like, "You will never recover." ALSO like Night Film, the movies are a catalyst for a plot that is...well, also brutal and unflinching. Reading this book was a little bit like a fever dream. I wasn't sure what was happening or what was real.

Yeah, I don’t really know what all that was about, or why it was included after every time jump. Idgaf how many Twitter followers the main character has, or how many calories she eats. I get that her mom was mentally abusive and instilled that mindset into her from a young age, but the repetition of it throughout the whole story made me roll my eyes. For those of you who didn’t like this book, sorry not sorry. I loved this book. It was so obsessively creepy and dark in some parts. If James Wan or Blumhouse wanted to put this on screen and change some things to make it more horror, less thriller. Some gore. Sign. Me up. Boo boo.

Jennifer Wolfe’s new novel, WATCH THE GIRLS, starts with two sisters ( the youngest and the oldest) driving to “rescue” the middle girl – a wild child, television ingénue with a penchant for trouble. Flash forward a decade and a half and the oldest sister, Liv ( Olivia) is practically a has been in the tv realm, while the middle sister, Gemma, has gained stardom and fame at the cost of everyone and everything around her. The baby sister disappeared during that night 15 years ago, throwing Liv in

I enjoyed reading this book. It was suspenseful, intriguing, and weird.
Liv, a former child star, is hired via a kickstarter-type website to investigate the mysterious disappearances of women. To investigate, she travels to the small town where they were last seen, which is holding its annual festival celebrating a famous horror director and his films (I particularly liked this aspect of the story and think other horror fans would as well). The director, his son, his films, locals, Liv, and her s ...more

Ewww, only two stars, right?! I liked the idea of this book - in fact I picked it up off of the cover and then the inside flap intrigued me. But ... no. The characters were well written and the main storyline was ok, but as things came together I disliked this more and more. It seemed the graphic and sadistic violence didn't have a point - even to the point of the plot where it was supposed to make sense. The two bad guys did all these terrible things over the course of 15 years just to show up

I read this two years ago and I still think about how mad it made me. Maybe I should give it an extra star for that point alone, but I won't. Really intriguing premise, but the story was so damn disappointing. Too much unnecessary graphic sexual violence and an awful ending (the ending made me SO mad). I regret not DNFing this one!
