This book has many triggers that are not evident by the description, including sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse/sexual abuse.
I am not a fan of suspense or thrillers, but I really enjoyed reading this book. The storyline was interesting and gripping albeit a little predictable. I was initially concerned religion would be a central part of the story, but it was used more as character development and support. An insert that came with the book described the genre as a "romantic su ...more

In spite of the description, this story was grittier than I expected but a satisfying read. Although a Catholic novel with strong Catholic elements, which one might think would make it suitable for all adult readers, its content might be too much for a very sensitive reader. So use caution. Note: No bad language. It calls attention to human trafficking, child abuse, and *SPOILER ALERT* incest, all of which I think need to be addressed more often in all media. The story has enough detail so that

Throughout this ambitious presentation, Janice Lane Palko weaves a stunning web of intrigue, conspiracy and betrayal delineating the divide of souls, of which her protagonist, Cara Wells, is the brightest. The remainder of the cast measures against this woman’s unwavering commitment to character through trials of the worst magnitude in regard to acts of depravity and betrayal.
Also foundational is the author’s integrating the backdrop of Cara’s religion. Catholic themes predominate, reflecting co ...more

This was an excellent book! I was sitting on the edge of my seat while reading it. The characters were so real to me and I found myself shocked near the end! I won't ruin the surprise but it is well worth it!

I gave the overall story line 3 stars. I like the idea of the book however, I was able to figure out the whodunit pretty quickly.
Unfortunately, I have to give the main character one star. It was incredibly obnoxious that she was so naïve and the victim of an emotionally abusive relationship yet a successful business owner/woman. It didn't fit for me. ...more

I received a copy of “Most Highly Favored Daughter” by Janice Lane Palko during her Facebook launch party. Once I began it, I had a hard time putting it down until I reached the end.
Janice addressed a seldom discussed blight that permeates our world, the deplorable world of sex trafficking. I applaud her for bringing this sensitive subject into a piece of fiction. I liked how her characters evolved as I followed their lives in her story.

Most Highly Favored Daughter is an engaging read with an interesting cast set in my favorite city - Pittsburgh. The author provides enough bread crumbs to keep the reader engaged in unraveling the plot so that suspense is maintained until the final chapters with some unexpected twists along the way.
The book also draws much-needed attention to the vile crime of sex trafficking and its prevalence. I enjoyed the faith elements of the book, particularly the inclusion of Saint Bahkita and the human p ...more
