The second book of the series. Charlie finds herself caught in the city as it degenerates into chaos following an EMP attack. Charlie, a successful pharmaceutical sales rep, has no background in prepping or survival. Thrust into a do or die situation, she quickly learns that leaders in Washington are working to change the country as she knows it. Her world has become a race to freedom while attempting to avoid capture by the new government’s agents. She must do this while trying to escape from a city with millions of residents as food, medicine and rule of law all disappear. Can Charlie and her group learn to survive, or will the lack of knowledge become their fatal flaw?
CHRIS WEATHERMAN, also known as ANGERY AMERICAN, is the author of twenty-two published works, including USA Today Best Sellers Forsaking Home and Resurrecting Home. His books include the Survivalist Series, a sensational hit that began with the first book in the series, Going Home, and has sold more than one million copies worldwide. Chris’ latest release, Engineering Home, was #1 on Amazon New Releases Charts in Dystopian Fiction and Dystopian Science Fiction at its debut. It was also #2 on the Amazon Best Seller Chart only behind George Orwell’s 1984 upon Engineering Home’s release.
Chris appeared in season one of History Channel’s Alone series. He has been involved in prepping for over thirty years and practices primitive skills as well as modern survival that focuses on being prepared with the proper equipment. He travels the country appearing at expos and prepper-focused events to meet with readers, sign books and occasionally speak. In addition to these events, his travels also allow him to meet and train with instructors and students all over the country on preparedness and homestead design covering everything from food production to security.
As a trade Chris worked in the power industry for nearly twenty years building power plants and performing line work for power companies. He worked his way up to be the commissioning and start-up supervisor for many of these projects and has a solid understanding of power generation and distribution.
Chris currently lives in Florida on the edge of the Ocala National Forest with his wife of twenty-six years and his thirteen year old daughter Little Bit.
Charlie and her companions are hunkered down near DHS headquarters waiting for word from John as to when it would be least dangerous to travel and what would be their best route. They have learned that DHS are more like gestapo and the FEMA camps are more akin to prisons.
Browning’s and American’s formal novel in the Charlie’s Requiem series, Democide, follows Charlie, Dr. Kramer, and Beker as they each deal with the aftermath of an EMP attack on the USA. While each must adapt to a life without power and the accompanying first world problems, the harsh reality of their government’s intentions are alarming.
I am so happy these two authors decided to continue Charlie’s story with a full-length novel with the promise of more in the upcoming months.
5 out of 5 stars. If I could give 100 stars for this I would.
Orlando is infested with vermin, of the two legged variety, sporting DHS badges and bad attitudes.
After the power went off Orlando was home to tens of thousands of tourists with no way to get home, but walk. The DHS arrived with working busses and took the long masses of humanity to a safe shelter. Suspicion begins to cloud the air as people disappeared.
Our characters are beginning to learn some discrepancies in the government handling of the EMP produced power outage. Things just aren't adding up. Getting answers is going to be dangerous.
This broad look at a government gone wild from the citizen viewpoint is an electrifying romp into conspiracy theory heaven. Entertaining to read and wildly exciting, I heartily recommend this read.
A decent book, but not A. American's greatest work. The plot points and details were more realistic (according to actual DHS/FEMA documents & plans) but the book seemed to end a bit anticlimactically, almost as though it were originally much longer and was cut into two parts. The characters turned out to be more interesting than I initially though. My biggest complaint would probably be how the action curve seems to slow down toward the end, rather than climax upward. I'll still check out the next in the series, as it is still a good book and well written. Hopefully the next one gets back to American's usual caliber.
I am so excited about this series! It's powerful and dramatic in the best possible ways. Outstanding character depth. You just can't stop reading. Following Doc Kramer, John, and Charlie through Orlando while DHS takes over the city and roving bands of gangs and criminals via for control. We start to discover all is not what it seems to be. Start reading this series you will be blown away.
This seems to suffer a bit from "second book syndrome" where the action is uneven and even drags at some point. DHS/Government seem to be doing some very sinister things-I used to scoff at that being anything other than big fiction, but now, I'm not so sure. I was glad to see Dr Kramer back, though there is action on a lot of different fronts, different characters with Charlie, herself, not getting a lot of focus. This book (like the first) could use a good editor.
I loved getting a glimpse into a city the size of Orlando from the same event of The Going Home series. You see more cases where good people are questioning what they must do to survive. Especially with people like John who works with the DHS and questions what that organization is doing and has planned to do. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment!!!
If you're a fan of A. American you'll appreciate this series. Great storyline and realistic characters. Not overly preachy but accessible to non-preppers too. This book covers so much but doesn't lag or lose your interest. Well worth the read. Can't wait for more.
Holy dodo. What an ending. What a story. What an reading adventure. I definitely did not see that coming. I don't do spoilers. This is something you have to read for yourself.
Not learning as much from this series as I did from "Home" series but still enjoying the tale. Lots of coincidental meetings make it a bit unrealistic but quite frankly I hope nothing like this ever becomes reality.
This book is a collaboration between A .American and Walt Browning as partners. This is the first book that I have read with this partnership is. As far as I am concerned the jury is still out on this concept .
I really like the “Going Home” series by A American, so I started reading this series and was immediately impressed. Great characters and multiple story lines.

ONE AWESOME SERIES, FOR CIVILIANS AND MILITARY ALIKE. ONE YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS.
Dr. Kramer gets what patients he has left, home to they family and loved ones, then has to make his way home. Charlie, Janice and Garret after leaving the good Doctor are headed they're own way, first to Charlie's fathers place, for weapons and possibly a place to rest for a time. For Dr. Kramer making it home to his wife and Daughter are all that matter now and as he gets home he sees he was right about them, they were able to take care of themselves. Now with their neighborhood working together they've found a place where all is safe with their world, or so they assume. As they'll to others around their township, they begin to hear about strange sightings, like people, especially patients that were I'll, the infirmed and the very old, that couldn't contribute or would possible a burden, disappearing. From Hospitals, Care Homes, and places for the Elderly, being completely emptied out. But Dr. Kramer and a friend Barry Jacobson, follow and watch, where these busses that are full go, then when they come back they are completely empty, no sign anyone ever was in them, what they find is beyond belief and horror itself. Charlie, Janice & Garret also happen upon a young stranger, Beker, saving him from a fate worse then death, but they may have jumped out of the frying pan & into the fire themselves. But they also come across others like themselves, that just want to get somewhere safe, but as they talk and put together what they've witnessed with their own eyes, the groups start to realize that the EMP Blast may not be as accidental as they thought, or came from another Country, this maybe is all homemade. As they see their own Government doing things not to help the country, but to only help the chose few, as Prisons & Jails empty only to give the convicts free rein on the populace. This series is definitely off to one great start and it will keep you guessing long after you finish the book, just what is going on in Florida and around the United States? Walt Browning and A. American on writing this book and series will give you thoughts into something you hope to never have to deal with, because now you don't know who you can trust. This is one series I will pass on and I hope everyone that reads this also feels the same and passes it on.
