This book is a really cute story about two friends who think they are dreaming when they encounter a kangaroo who escaped from the zoo. Because they think they're dreaming, they make choices that they wouldn't make in real life (eat all of the honey and birdseed they had saved for winter, make a big mess, etc.) It turns out they are not dreaming, but the zookeeper finds the kangaroo in their house and cleans up the mess that he believes the kangaroo has made. When bear and bird get back home, they decide to 'wake themselves up' so that they don't have to see the mess that they made. When they go inside, everything is just as they had left it, although they can't figure out why they aren't in their beds. They determine they must have been sleepwalking, and they are so tired out that they lay down for a nap. This is a great book for read aloud to little ones! And great for dialogic reading.
This was such a cute story and had the kids a little nervous for Bear and Bird as they continually made bad choices because they thought they were dreaming after seeing the kangaroo who had escaped from the zoo. After eating their winter supplies of honey and bird seeds and making a big mess in the house they decided to go for a swim and eat berries at the pond. While they were gone the zookeeper found the kangaroo and the mess he thought she made and fixed everything in the house back to normal. By the time Bear and Bird came home, they didn't want to see the mess so they decided to wake up. After waking and walking inside, everything was back to normal solidifying that they really had been dreaming. The imagination that went into this book was great and the kids loved the surprise ending.
Who doesn’t like to be the smartest one in the room?
Not one of the characters in Moonbear’s Dream has a clue what’s going on, and neither, apparently, does the author. Only the reader and wily illustrator are in the know.
The pictures are sweet and the story is funny, but you have to wonder . . . will Bear and Little Bird ever catch on?
I recommend this story for children who love to laugh, and the grown-ups who love to laugh with them.
This is a funny one: Bear and bird see a kangaroo in their yard and figure they must be dreaming. They proceed to do things they'd never dare do while awake since they figure all will be back to normal when the dream's finished. This is a fun twist on the "it was all a dream" story structure.
Most picture books start of with some pretense of normalcy. But how normal can life be in the house that (somehow) Moonbear, a bear, shares with his best buddy Little Bird, a bird?
Am I allowed to ask who pays for their comfortable lifestyle, btw?
This book, part of a delightful series, doesn't even begin normally. Instead, here's the first sentence:
One day a kangaroo with a joey ni her pouch escaped fom the zoo and wandered through Bear's yard.
The main characters figure they're dreaming, which gives them an excuse to play-play-play. Cute, cute ending to this FIVE STAR book, with words and pictures by none other than Frank Asch.
In this installment of the Moonbear series, Moonbear and Little Bird see a kangaroo that has escaped from the zoo and think they are dreaming. They decide to have a "mess" party because they think they are dreaming. The mess does get cleaned up in an unexpected way. A delightful story with a surprising outcome.
Moonbear needs to lay off the wacky tabacky? He seems something strange...so he thinks he is in a dream..so he explores this dream by doing things he wouldn't do in this awake life...like eat his honey storage and not clean up messes because it was in a dream it will all be there when he wakes up! I get his logic and I have once or twice when I realize I am dreaming I fly or do something I know I can't do. Just a barrel of silly weirdness! He is actually awake the whole time but due to some coincidences it appears he was in a dream.
When Bear and Little Bird spy a kangaroo in the yard they assume they must be dreaming. They decide to eat all of the food they've saved for winter, make a huge mess, and go for a dream swim. The only problem is that they aren't dreaming!!! Very cute.
