As far as books that I've written go, this one is clearly the best! All joking aside, I hope this book helps everyone that reads it. If it does not, 1) I'm sincerely sorry and 2) Check out Arianna Huffington's book The Sleep Revolution or Meir Kryger's new book The Mystery of Sleep. Dr. Kryger has mad sleep scientist skills.

I don't think I've laughed so hard while reading a self-help sleep book. Winter mixes humor and information as he informs you what to do and what not to do to get the best sleep of your life. I can't attest to it working because I'm still convincing my other half to make some changes, but it has helped me realize what we're doing wrong and why we've both been so tired for so long.

Dr. Winter gives us sleep deprived people a fresh, new perspective on sleep disorders...in a very hilarious voice! I swear I was laughing at some point on every page! Not only is he knowledgeable, but he's got a sense of humor. Citing personal stories as well as facts, studies, and statistics, this book is a page turner! Great read!

This book has been so helpful to me because I have always had trouble sleeping. I have always had to rely on sleeping pills to go to sleep and even then my sleep is interrupted. I have received some useful advice from this book that I am using now to help my sleep and it has beem working without pills!

This book kept me up at night reading it so in that way it failed miserably at its mission to help me sleep. I laughed so much I had to read it in the guest bedroom. This guy is out there, but in a way I wish other doctors were. The thing about give yourself 2 points if you have a partner... Amazing.

This was first. I read an entire "scientific" book in two days. I'm not going to call it a page turner, but I will say it was compelling. I think this book might be the first in the genre of 'Self Help Humor' as it is very funny and edgy. I feel like I know a lot more about sleep at this point. This is not a conventional tips book. I guess that's why some people didn't like this book (either that or they don't like zombies...the author seems to like them a lot).

It’s a different kind of sleep book and it will make you look differently at your sleep.
It’s interesting that Dr. Winters wanted to write this book to be like a “sweeping” novel and while I think that’s a tall order considering it’s a book about sleep, I do have say I wasn’t bored and was mildly entertained by Dr. Winters’ witty comments and advice that was peppered throughout the book. I'm a pulmonary sleep fellow and I think this book has probably taught me more about insomnia than my fellowship. Chris (he told me to call him that when I spoke to him after the lecture) is a colourful individual to say the least. I really appreciate his insight, humor and wisdom. I will join an established sleep practice next year and there will be copies of this book in my clinic ready for my patients.

I've read a lot of articles and a book or two on sleep and this is my favorite one. Dr. Winter is really funny and for this book being on the subject of sleep, it didn't put me to sleep at all (while I was reading it). Now, I feel like I may have a chance against easy insomnia and I hope to never reach the hard insomnia phase thanks to this book.

I won this book at a retreat where Dr. Winter spoke. He was hilarious. Easily the best professional presentation I have listened to. My wife and I have already both read the book and it's fantastic. Very helpful. Not pretentious.

I did not expect a book about sleep medicine to be so hilarious??? But it was. I loved all his funny little footnotes. Besides that, it seemed scientifically rigorous and medically accurate. His perspective on insomnia--basically, that a lot of the problem comes from patients' perception of the problem--really meshes with my experience as a therapist. I also appreciated the strong cautionary tone on sleeping pills while still acknowledging that they are useful or necessary in some situations.

This book is great! I learnt so much. I think some of the key learnings for me were:
1. I sleep. Even if I feel like I have not slept in days, I have slept.
2. Not sleeping is not the end of the world. I can still function the next day and will get through the day. I might feel like crap, but I will get through it.
3. My trying to sleep and worrying about not sleeping is probably causing a significant amount of my sleep problems.
4. Don't go to bed if you're not sleepy! Longer time in bed does n ...more

Chris Winter, a neurologist and sleep specialist, details in a witty manner the biological process of sleep, the nature of Insomnia, and what to do about it. In a word, unless you have a physical reason (like Sleep Apnea or Narcolepsy) for sleep interruption and irregularities, you can do NOTHING after you have performed the sleep hygiene recommended by just about every sleep doc and blogger. Winters believes that insomnia is a problem of anxiety based on fear (so a mental problem), and it isn't

This was a fact filled, very educational book. If you want to learn the ins and outs of how your brain uses sleep to stay healthy and how a lot of the body's systems work, this is the book for you. The author has a humorous style of writing and manages to convey technical details in a way that isn't overwhelming for those of us who aren't neurologists. He may have gone a bit overboard on the humor and I actually skimmed over the many 'fun experiments' which didn't add much to the ...more

Actually, when I first got into this book, I was thrilled. It's been a while since I started havin sleep issues, and this book is like a little enclycopedia about the subjet, but still, while I was approaching the end of it, I was still looking for my sleep solution, which never came.
Do not get me wrong, that is a good book, it is going to give you nice tips and tricks to impress ladies at parties (and to sleep a little bit better), but be aware that, at the end of the day, it's all ...more

A good, easy to read self-help book for those who suffer from insomnia. And it's funny, too! While not a sufferer myself, I learned some good information that I didn't know, as well as some tricks for family members to try. While detailed neuroscience studies are mentioned, the book is fairly easy to follow and does not get bogged down in too much medical terminology. Highly recommended.

How fitting that I should get this book. I have suffered with insomnia for years and it drives me absolutely mad. I have episodes where I can sleep fine...not great...but fine for about a few nights at a time. Then..the insomnia sets in. Sleepless nights for days to the point that I am hallucinating during the day. Exhaustion at an all time high....then the relief of the few days of sleep. I catch up on sleep during the days..and that's only for about 4 hours, tops. So yeah...this book pops up..

5 big, fat glowing stars!
I have dealt with sleep issues for most of my self-aware life. Sometimes they were self-imposed problems (one more chapter, Mom, please?!), sometimes they were grad school grade sleep deprivation, sometimes they were because of anxiety/depression, but I could have found an answer for each and every problem had Dr. Winter published his book sooner.

Informative and entertaining! I was a winner of an ARC sponsored by the Berkley Marketing Team of Penguin Random House. While I do not experience problems sleeping (at least I think I don't), I do know folks who do and had put my name in the pot and hoped for the best. In my opinion, Dr. Winter did an excellent job presenting the facts in an easy to understand format and I appreciated the chapter summaries. I plan on sharing/recommending this book.

I am a sleep fanatic. This book is not too technical! If anything it is the opposite. If you are hardcore research guy (or gal!!) this book might be a bit too basic. I loved it and think it is perfect for the person who needs a sleep reset. Yes Dr. Winters does use humor, but for the most part it is highly entertaining. I did not feel takled down to or "dim"...not sure what that's about. I think you will really enjoy this book. I wish he had talked about female hormones.

I have never read a self help book that was this easy to read yet still had substance. The book was very reassuring and most certainly NOT in my head. If this book doesn't give you a little something to gnaw on...that's a bad sign. Highly recommend...I won't bother repeating what most of the reviews say.

As someone who doesn’t sleep well, who was diagnosed with apnea, seeing the title of this book caused an immediate need to shove aside all other books I was reading at the time and open this one up. I am glad I did. Now, admittedly, I did not read this book from cover to cover, but there is a reason for that.
For starters, I work in a mattress manufacturing company. While I might just be a little close to the news, sleep has appeared to be a growing topic in health and wellness. This book’s publi ...more

I have had sleep issues for a long time now and this is the first book I've read that actually helped. It was informative and very entertaining. While my sleep still isn't perfect, it has improved so much! My husband has noticed the difference and suggested I just keep reading this book over and over again. :)
