A curvy waitress longing for a better life + a lonely lumberjack snow leopard shifter + a wild night that will change their lives = one sweet and steamy romance!
Curvy Alethia Parker has never had any luck. With a shifter father and human mother, her brother got the shifter gene, not her. And after her boyfriend dumped her in the worst possible way, she's the one who got the reputation. In a small town, no one ever forgets your mistakes. Especially when your ex is always around to blame you. All Alethia wants is a fresh start in a place where no one knows her name. But when the handsomest man she's ever seen comes to her defense right there in town, she's shocked to find herself falling in love. But will her past tear them apart?
Snow leopard shifter Grey Landin thinks he learned his lesson from his own wild past. Now all he wants is to live quietly, working as a lumberjack by day and returning to his solitary cabin at night. But he's not the kind of man to look the other way when a woman's being harassed. And when he looks into Alethia's eyes, he sees the snow leopard that only he can release... and the mate he never believed he'd find.
Grey longs to sweep Alethia away to a new life together, but her ex-boyfriend is determined to keep her in her place-- even if it means a fight. Can Grey persuade Alethia to believe in love when she’s been hurt so badly before? Can this wild cat set his mate free?
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I bought this on September 4th
The cover is absolutely beautiful! It is what made me one click this book!
This book is only about 100 pages, but packed with an awesome story that will entertain you! It is for adults only due to the steamy content.
Okay, confession time! This is the first book I’ve read of Zoe Chant’s, but here is the shocking part, I own 45 of her books that I’ve been buying since April of 2015. Reading books by authors you know can sometime make it hard to switch up to a new author even for a hoarder like me.
I absolutely loved this book! Most know that shifter books are my favorite, so I knew I would enjoy the book. I am definitely going to be reading my collection of Zoe’s books more in the future. I loved both of the main characters in this book Alethia and Grey. Alethia is strong and passionate, but she has been hurt and lead to some bad decisions. I loved Grey from the moment he stood up for Alethia even though he didn’t know her. He has character and integrity that I wish most of humanity had.
I highly recommend this book to every shifter lovin’ reader out there because this book was just awesome! I can’t wait to read my next Zoe Chant book!
This was a pretty good story. I liked both characters and the story was short but enjoyable. Although I actually have a number of this author's book on my to-read list, I was surprised to find that this is the first book I've read by this author. I did like it well enough that I plan to try more of her work in the future.
Alethia is a human woman that works as a waitress for the local diner. She shares a house with her brother and his wife and is rather miserable there but doesn't have the money to move. Alethia's father was a shifter and her mother was human...she ended up human but her brother is a bear shifter. Alethia used to party but gave it up years ago...unfortunately, most of the people in town wont let her old rep go no matter how undeserved it is.
Grey is a snow leopard shifter that is currently working as a logger. He is a loner and gets hassled by other shifters because they don't tend to like cat shifters. Grey is only in town for the job, until he can get a position he really wants, as a park ranger in another state.
When the story begins, a friend of Alethia's convinces her to go out on a double date with her. Alethia doesn't really want to go out but figures it's better than sitting at home and listening to her brother and his wife argue constantly. Unfortunately, the guy Alethia got set up with is a scum and wont take no for an answer. Alethia gets away from him and intends to leave but runs into Grey as she's trying to get away from another man that wont take no for an answer (I swear it seems like every guy in this town is slime!). Grey helps Alethia out with her pursuer and ends up offering her a drive home. They talk along the way and hit it off and do end up spending the night together, during which Grey figures out that Alethia is his true mate. There is a bit of drama due to some lies Alethia was told and her Ex making trouble just to be a jerk but things turn out well and the story ends with Alethia and Grey starting on a HEA together.
This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked Alethia pretty well. She overreacted at one point but considering her past I guess I can understand it...at least she got past it before too long. Grey was a good hero and I can't think of any complaints about him. Now, I will admit that I LOVE snow leopards (they're my favorite big cat) so I was thrilled to read a story about snow leopard shifters...so that could have influenced my liking of the story a bit. Overall, I think my only complaint is the length...I liked the story but it did feel a bit hurried at times. Outside of that, I enjoyed the story and would recommend it. :)
Alethia is a human who lives with herbear shifter brother and human sister in -law, who made some mistakes when she was younger. Since then the town and even her iwn family refuse to forget what happened and treat her like dirt. Grey is a snow leopard , signed on to a logging crew, while waiting for his dream job as a forestry ranger to open up, and not very happy with the other shifters on the logging teams as they act as if brute strength makes them right. Once they meet Grey thinks it should be smooth sailing as Alethia is his destined mate, but she's been burned by a shifter before and she's not going to get burned twice, no mater that she feels something is " right" with being with Grey. Sweet story of two people with pasts to be vercome, who have blazing hot sexual chemistry and are willing to fight fir what they want , including Alethia taking on ger sniw keipard and helping her mate " take out the trash" !! If you like paranormal romance with some heat, this books for you !! 4⭐'s
My first introduction to Zoe Chant was through her Fire and Rescue Shifters series which I loved. This one was missing the spark. I liked Grey but Alethia wasn't much of a character. I'm looking forward to the next book though.
2.5 Stars I had read all the other books in the series but missed this one somehow so decided to pick it up and see where it all started. Got to admit this one was a bit of a miss for me and I'm glad it wasn't what I started with otherwise I may not have read anymore. Alethia was kind of annoying. She seemed to let everyone, including her family, walk all over her but the one person, her mate Grey, who treated her with dignity and respect she treated like crap and went all crazy on him?? She improved a little towards the end but not really a character I need to read more on. Grey was great from the start, and I felt bad for him that he got Alethia as a mate. Of course it all worked out in the end and them moving to Glacier would be the best thing for them. Overall not one I would consider a favourite.
As with most insta-mate romance this novella had the problem of pacing. The entire story takes place in the span of two days and ... it was obvious.
Alethia has a shitty life in a small town that refuses to let go of her past, so when she meets Grey she thinks maybe she finally found someone who was different. But as soon as he said something she considered a lie she was out, not even giving him a chance to explain anything. A bit of an overreaction. I understood she'd been hurt in the past and didn't want to be again, but it honestly made me dislike her. Leaping so quick to calling him a liar and treating him like shit when she's the one being shitty ... it seems unfair.
I don't like two-day romance. I love the idea of soulmates and people being connected through fate, but I hate the fact that authors regularly rely on the physical side to sell the relationship. I understand it's what sells, I get that paranormal romance is just a fancy way to say furry porn with plot, but I guess I just expect more plot. Maybe instead of immediately jumping back into bed after making up from an argument they could spend some time together with clothes on.
Also the shifting. I'm not sure how I feel about the instant changing from human to animal and the fact that the clothes seem to just magically get absorbed by your body?? And the fact that apparently all it takes for a shifter to change someone is a small bite? Like how many humans have been accidentally changed if that's all it takes?
Overall the book really wasn't bad. It was a good little paranormal romance that did it's best to fight against the toxic masculinity that tends to color the heroes of these stories. I enjoyed the author's writing style, and the sex scenes were well written so it wasn't like I had to suffer through them. I suppose I just wish there'd been more to the book ... I will certainly be checking out the other series by Zoe Chant, even if I choose not to continue this one.
If you want an entertaining, quick read then this is worth the buy, but if you're looking for substance in any form ... well you might want to look elsewhere.
Kindle Unlimited purchase By Zoe Chant Great book! Ali's father is a bear shifter but she takes after her mother who is human. Growing up her older brother got all of their fathers time. Ali never missed not being able to shift but she did wonder if her life would be different if she could. Ali was asked by her best (and only) friend to go out with her. She didn't want to go but she couldn't say no. After some trouble who does she bump into? Grey has been working as a logger but he wants his dream job back. Being a forest ranger was the best job. It's Friday and all Grey wants is to go home to his quiet cabin. Nope, not going to happen. His friends make him go out with them. And you guessed it. Someone bumps into Grey. He looked down and saw Ali standing in front of him with a tear running down her cheek A fast past book, a little long for a lunch break but worth working it for two days. Already have book 2 rented. Just want to say I could not put the book down here it is 5:00 am and I'm wide awake writing a review because it couldn't wait until tomorrow. If I had to pick something I didn't like about this book is it was written state through, no chapters, just continue from the first page to the last. Everything else WOW.
Snow leopards!! The shifter series I didn't know I was waiting for but so glad I found. Alethia and Grey are two lost souls who don't know they're looking for each other. Alethia's climbing the 4 walls of her small town and even smaller minded neighbors. She longs to leave, longs for more and longs to be heard. A last minute decision to go to the local bar leads her to a chance encounter with Grey, a logger new to town. In him she immediately finds someone who listens to her and respects her even if she doesn't understand why. Grey a snow leopard shifter, is tired of being alone but only wants to retreat to his cabin on the outskirts of town. Shifters are open secret and the logging crew is all shifters but he's still the odd man out because he's a cat shifter - notorious loners. Sharing a drink with one of his few friends he encounters Alethia fleeing from an unwanted pursuer. He offers her a ride home and quickly realizes she's his mate. They connect emotionally and physically but when he reveal they're mates, things go downhill fast. Grey has to show Alethia he's the real deal to allay her insecurities.
A quick, sexy instalove romance and good start to a series.
I decided to take a chance on this series and I am so glad I did! Grey Landin is a phenomenal leading man in this story. His respect for life and women is very touching. He is a logger who has been waiting patiently for a different job to come through, but it is not easy being a snow leopard shifter amongst other shifters who frown upon big cats. He is surprised when he meets a beautiful human woman at a bar when she literally runs into him.
Altheia Parker is a hometown girl from the next town over. She has a reputation that is not very positive, but she has learned from her wild days now. She is stuck in her hometown and it is basically impossible to leave. She gives into going with her friend to a bar on a double date. As she predicted, the double date went awry. She runs into a very handsome man at the bar who offers her a ride home.
These two have instant chemistry and the chemistry sizzles and burns the pages. I look forward to the next book in the series.
While I liked Alethia, I liked her more later in the story. She's a cynic that allowed herself to be a doormat, got a bad reputation after being hurt, and became stuck under the thumb of her brother and his wife. She has a backbone, but no confidence. It was great to watch her growth. Grey is just looking to get away from the area via a better job due to the other shifters being jerks. He's protective, but not overbearing. I really, really liked Grey.
They move fast as a couple due to how the true mate thing works in this "world". They click together and have good chemisty, but the whole thing feels a little simple, though satisfying. The world building is nice and easy to understand, though changing someone into a shifter seems far too easy, but simple is good too.
The Snow Leopard's Mate is a good start to a series. I'm intrigued by world and love the snow leopards. Don't miss it.
Prescott waitress Alethia ‘Ali’ Parker isn’t a fan of her shifter hometown or the men that live there. It doesn’t help that Ali didn’t get the shifter gene from her parents. It’s a toss-up if Grey Landin or his inner snow leopard dislike the town or his lumberjack more. Being the wall Ali runs into is the brightest spot in each of their lives in the town they’d both like to escape.
Ali made a mistake with her shifter brother’s best friend, a wrong guy and the two of them ruin her reputation. After a great night and a perfect morning, Grey unwittingly tells Ali the same thing, causing her to withdraw from him. Disliking Grey for not being a bear shifter in a bear town, the pair decide they should protect Ali’s honor by challenging Grey.
The characters and story were fair but not developed enough to be more than a very light, short, that would work as a beach or rainy day read. Rating: 3.5stars
Alethia Parker and Grey Landin have a delightful little love story. Grey is working as a lumberjack in the Prescott, Arizona area while hoping for a Ranger position up in Glacier National Park in Montana. He's a snow leopard shifter laying low in an area of half-hearted bear shifters. She's the sister of one of those bear shifters, but the shifter gene skipped her. Now she just suffers through her families dismissive ways and the snarky comments of her past. When Ali and Grey meet the connection is immediate. But it's up to Grey to prove to Ali that true, fated mates are real. Darling love story of overcoming the past, learning to trust, hot sex and a shifter fight to teach a bully a lesson. Ali discovers her true self, thanks to Grey, and he wins his true love. Excellent story of self-discovery.
Pretty good read. This is a “young” author - only been around for a couple years - and it seems this first book in a series shows it. It’s a bit rough around the edges, and there are aspects to the world that she adjusts in later books.
As to the characters, I like the h and H. No wishing for early deaths, which is sadly rare.
Fairly quick story. Not lunch break quick, but definitely can finish after work before bed. Good ending; it won’t keep you awake muttering to yourself.
I do like Zoe Chant - love her Shifting Sands series (plural) - and hope she continues to mature as an author. She’s also highly prolific, which is great for those of us who hate waiting for a new (decent) book to come out.
I've been on a paranormal/supernatural/shapeshifter kick lately with my reading.
This was/is a Kindle Unlimited book that I got though my Amazon Prime account. I enjoyed it. It's a very fast pace story which makes it almost feel like something is missing. Not a bad read at all and would definitely read more books by this author.
Grey Landin Alethia Parker
This book is about shapeshifters with not a lot of background or in-depth information on the ins and outs of the species. This is also the first shapeshifter book I've read where a human can be changed into a shifter by being bitten.
Started off so well but even though Alethia’s reasons are good, she is acting like a jerk towards Grey, blaming him for anothers actions. She did at least get it sorted out as to who was the good guy. Glad Matt got his from Zane but the brother Paul and sister in law Molly are useless and not nice people. Pity Paul wasn’t told the whole truth about his friend Matt’s actions and how he lied and badly treated Alethia. Didn’t like any of the characters except Grey and the diner owner Rhonda. Grey was the only one who seems honest and honourable. Alethia came good in the end. Read in the box set.
A simple shifter romance on the childish side. Both main characters are almost outcasts, treated like shit by everyone around them. There are some nice things in the dialogues, but otherwise...a lot oversimplifications, shifters shift with their clothing, human gets turned into a shifter by practically a snap of fingers, a very silly and incredibly boring 'final confrontation' with childish bullies. It's what it is, a very simple 'feel good' story for girls of specific type that doesn't expect you to think much.
Zoe Chant does it again. I've read many of her books and I'm hooked on her writing style and her awesome shifters. This book was about a woman who has lost her self respect and self esteem, at a young age and is trying to get them back with not much success until Grey comes along. Not to give anything away, it does have a HEA. I will be reading the next in this series right away.
This is the beginning of a great series. Grey is a snow leopard shifter. He works as a logger waiting for an opening at Glacier National Park as a ranger. He meets Alethia in a bar and realizes she is his mate. Unfortunately it is not reciprocated. Alethia thinks being a mate is a lie. Will Grey be able to change her mind before he needs to leave? I give it 5 stars.
Had this on my KU list - quick, fun read, will read the rest since they're all available in KU. Snow leopard shifter books aren't that common, so hooray for that, but just reading the descriptions for each books makes me worried about reading too many in a row - every. single. description starts with "curvy [heroine's name]". I'm all for more representation in romance, but can we also add a little variety in there?
I always enjoy reading Zoe's stories. This was a bit of a different storyline, no major drama, and no disbelief when Althea found Grey was a shifter. It went fairly heavily into the issues with adult bullying, involving both acquaintances and family! Althea's brother needed to be smacked down, and the ex, Matt seriously needed an attitude adjustment. I am so happy Grey was able to take care of that! This story has a HEA, and no cliff to fall off...lol I am on to the next book in this series!
Alethia is definitely woman enough to save herself, but it definitely helps to have someone there to have your six. Grey was that man. He realized that he had his everything in her, and he fought for her and for their future. A great start to the series! I borrowed this through Kindle Unlimited.
This is a love story with fun and fantasy. All the graphic sex gets tiresome to me, but I guess some people must like it. I don't. The story flows nicely and shows us the main characters as people and as snow leopards. I prefer the lions though because of the pride (family). Still, a fun book.
I actually enjoyed this story. Is much more slow paced and there is not any major misunderstandings that can't be solved pretty quick, but really interesting and real story that may resonate with many people. I loved Gray. He is great! Can't wait to read the next book on this series. Highly recommended
I love reading shifter series, and i had just finished her body guard series. While this story was ok I found it irritating that the rules of this authors shifter world change from book to book. Mate binding, clothing, changing humans. Poetic liscense is great but when you create a world you need to stick to the rules you create.
I have been on a shifter binge and that is where I found Zoe. I have enjoyed many of her books since then and am working my way through them. There are some minor editing issues in her early books but not enough to give up reading them.
With many variety of shifters who are hot and true mates I am sure you will enjoy them as much as me.
Like the story line but felt there wasn't enough depth to the characters and wanted more. There was some grammar and errors that were distract that were distracting. That being said, I will read the next book.
