Ryder Waites will do anything to keep the tiny town of Gallows Grove, Kentucky, from vanishing off the map—even sell his family’s whiskey recipe to Bluegrass Bourbon in Lexington. Hopeful that the larger company can provide necessary improvements to the distillery, Ryder’s ultimate goal is to get Gallows Grove on the Bourbon Trail… and bring in much-needed tourism revenue. ...more

"I'm not trying to seduce you because of dumpster regulations, Adam. I just think you're hot, and I want to bone."

"You don't have to sell me on the idea," said Adam. "I want to . . . But I just . . . hell . . . I'm not fucking in the Ever After Funeral Home. Hard Limit."

Avon Gale is one of the few author who routinely makes me laugh out loud when I'm reading her books. Scoring Chances is one of my favorite M/M series EVER. If you haven't read it, how are we even friends?

Avon Gale does it again with a funny, sexy small-town romance. Lovers of sweet, low-angst novellas, look no further!

I'm a REALLY big Avon Gale fan, but this is the first time I've read anything other than her hockey books. I'm SO relieved that she isn't a one-trick pony, and I can't wait to see her continue to stretch her wings.

Whiskey Business is a short, easy read, clocking in at just over 100 pages, but it feels like a much longer book. All the elements of a good romance are there, especiall

Sooo good! Funny and entertaining and it made me want to go to Kentucky so bad!

What a delightful story! I don't think I have ever really been to Kentucky (driving through when I was a kid doesn't count). I don't drink whiskey (I had a bad experience) and I don't watch basketball or horse racing (don't hate me). I tell you what, though, I love the 'enemies to lovers' trope and this story is full of win.

Ryder Waites was named after the Rider-Waite Tarot Card deck. Yeah, his mom was a bit new-agey, and not at all afraid to show her color. His whole family, including his ances

Sweet, funny, and sexy with some wonderfully filthy dirty talk thrown in, this hit the spot just like a good bourbon.

I really liked that Gale wonderfully describes so much of Kentucky and the people I felt like I'd been there.

Adam isn't exactly Ryder's enemy, but the two have a rocky start, even though they both obviously want each other. I love that the chemistry between Ryder and Adam is so combustible even from the start. Coupled with all the humor that Gale infuses into the story, this was j
Bluegrass Bourbon acquires the recipe for Hanged Man Bourbon and sends Adam Keller to Gallows Grove, Kentucky to perform their due diligence. Adam's boss reminds him: "Be respectful that they’re a bunch of quirky bumpkins with a goddamn delicious bourbon. Okay?” And yup, the town is weirdly charming as all get-out. There's the macabre names for every business in town (The Last Meal Dinner, The Perfect Grime Laundromat), the Ever After Funeral Home with all those creepy dolls, and then there's Ry ...more

Avon Gale is one of my favorite new-to-me authors in 2016; I think I have consumed almost all of her books (I DNF'ed one, but that's probably my issue not yours). So when I saw this book on DSP website, I pre-ordered it immediately.

I ENJOYED the small-town atmosphere in this book! All those gallows humors and puns were entertaining! Unfortunately, I thought the sex scenes (even if they were pretty hot) disrupted the flow of what potentially could be a quirky romantic comedy. I am one of

This story was an absolute delight to read. A quirky town, a good hearted distillery owner, a stuffy corporate-type with some hidden talents and a roomful of creepy dolls make for an entertaining visit to very small-town Kentucky.

It’s not really an enemies to lovers story, but Adam is the man from Lexington sent to evaluate Ryder’s family distillery to decide its fate – will the town lose the distillery or will it become a tourist town on the Bourbon

OMG! Adam 'is' definitely loved Ryder1 With all that creepy town, creepy dolls, creepy house. Definitely love!
Ok, don't shoot me, this is the first Avon Gale book I have ever read, I struggled to adjust with the writing style in the beginning , but not by long. Because, I found a bit of Amy Lane's style here and there, and I think, me and this author will get along just fine.
This book is funny, witty, and dirty! And I loved my book dirty!

This was a very okay 3-star book for me. I've really enjoyed all of Ms. Gale's previous books - her hockey novels have been consistent 4-5 star reads for me - and I especially enjoy how she writes her characters.

For me, these characters weren't as compelling, and this book didn't go as deep as her others. But I liked it just fine, and I know I'll continue reading her books.

4.5 stars – I’m a big fan of Avon Gale’s hockey M/M series, so even though I tend to be disappointed by novellas—What can I say? I like ‘em longer… don’t be a perv now. *smirk*—it was still a no-brainer for me when the opportunity came to read this delightful novella, Whiskey Business.

I love Ryder Waites. Between him and the crazily quirky hometown of Gallows Grove, I was absolutely smitten from the get-go with Avon Gale’s Whiskey Business. I am sad that it was so short—well, okay, it wasn’t that short, but golly I wanted to spend more time with this town, this couple, and this delightfully talented writer.

A small Kentucky town full of businesses sporting macabre titles, with the highly appropriate name of Gallows Grove, is the setting for this entertaining and amusing opposites-attract romance in the ‘States of Love’ series. Between Ryder, a local boy who graduated high school only to be drawn into running his family’s distillery, and Adam, son of an old-money family who is determined to make it on his own and works for a Lexington-based whiskey business, there was enough conflict and fighting sp ...more

I've been sooooo busy that I've read barely any fiction the past few months, but I sat myself down and read this yesterday, and it was exactly what I needed and wanted: a fun, light (with a touch of angst), happy romance filled with puns. Who doesn't love a good pun?!

“Ups and downs. Remember?”

A novella set in a quirky, unique, small town with amazing characters. An opposite attracts, hate to love romance filled with hilarious puns, morbid humor, and Harry Potter mentions, what more could you want?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

“And so out of Ryder’s league it wasn’t even funny. That was if they even liked each other to begin with. Oh well. It was for the best, really. That sort of dislike-to-lovers thing only happened in Harry/Draco fanfic.”

Ryder Waites is determined to do everything he can to keep his home town of Gallows Grove from fading into nothing more than empty stores and quite streets. Even if it means selling off the recipe for his family’s Hanged Man Bourbon. He isn’t going to just sell it off to the first person who offers, though, since he needs the distillery to stay in Gallows Grove. Anything less and offering up one the last pieces of his inheritance will be for nothing. When he finally finds a company willing to co ...more

Avon Gale is one of my most favorite authors ... of any genre. Her unparalleled way of mixing wit, sexy times, and humor makes it so no matter what she writes, I'll grab it up in a hot second. So yeah, her Scoring Chances series is all about hockey, and I LOVE that, but her newest release, Whiskey Business was such a refreshing and fun read that I hope she keeps surprising her readers with new and different stories for a long time to come. Talk about a humor filled love story. I found myself smiling and laughing more then once while reading this book. It is one of those feel good books with some drama but a lot more humor and love. Avon Gale did an incredible job writing this book that is for sure.

Ryder is such a trip. He may not have lived anywhere other then Gallows Grove and he may not have been extremely well educated but he is an amazing individual. There is this light about him that drawls people in from the darkness. He has

I received an advance review copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I have a confession. This is my first time reading Avon Gale. I know! I’d heard fantastic things about her work, particularly her hockey series, but just never got around to her books. Anyway, I figured this novella from Dreamspinners’ States of Love collection would be a good introduction to her writing. And boy did I figure correctly.

I've been a fan of Avon Gale and her books for a while now. And this book was no exception - it was a very enjoyable read. But it wasn't a great one.

Whiskey Business has all the things I've come to expect from Gale. Dry, witty humour. Quirky characters. Likeable leads. Social awareness. Cute romance. Hot sex. A strong feeling of time and place. And this book has the added bonus of death puns (I love a bit of gallows humour) (yes, that word play was intentional).

Whiskey Business has plenty of laugh out loud scenes. Avon Gale scored another one. Ryder & Adam were perfect together! Bourbon, Kentucky-isms, Basketball and Bad Puns what more can you want?

I really enjoyed the town of Gallows Grove! I think the town made for a more interesting character seeing as it brought most of the excitement. Ryder Waites is born and bred Kentucky, it's in his blood, essence, and in his family's bourbon. Trying to do right by the family and town, Ryder agrees to sal

Morbidly Adorable!

A whimsical tale about serious matters, Whiskey Business is set in the morbidly named town of Gallows Grove. With town businesses keeping in the macabre theme (such as the Ever After Funeral Home, Last Meal Diner, and Pushing Up Daisies florist), Ms. Gale sets her town up with such vividness that you can see each and every location with crystalline clarity.

This was a really cute, hot, and sweet read...really, it was both the perfect length and the perfect weight for the downtime between Christmas and New Year's.

Ryder is a bourbon distillery manager/owner who's trying to forge a future for both his town and his business. He's young, without a lot of education because there just wasn't the opportunity for it, and completely supported by his town, Gallows Grove. Everyone loves him...not in a perfect "he's amazing!" kind of way, but in that imperfect

This is the first book I’ve read by Avon Gale, and I really enjoyed myself. It’s part of Dreamspinner Press’ States of Love collection, and the author peppered in a lot of details that gave the setting a real, small town Kentucky feel. Most of our time is spent with Adam and Ryder, and they were both well-developed MCs. The secondary characters really added to the atmosphere and fleshed out the story well. I definitely enjoyed my time with this story.

I love me some good whiskey as well as small town charm, so what better way to showcase both than a story about a whiskey based family business featuring the great state of Kentucky!
