In undergrad, I had to take a course on Milton where we read and analyzed Paradise Lost the whole semester. This was in 2012, and I’ve had a one sided beef with him ever since 😭 In 2024, after reading this beautiful, joyful poem I am now willing to end the beef. Please clap.

I’m sure I would have understood this better if I was more educated in Greek and Roman mythology, but the rhyme scheme and flow was very enjoyable

The rhyming scheme is good and even impressive in points, but the poem itself is rather easily forgettable.

You've got to be good to write a poem about being unbelievably happy without being annoying and Milton is good.

And ever against eating cares,
Lap me in soft Lydian airs,
Married to immortal verse
Such as the meeting soul may pierce
A short and sweet pastoral ode.
