Andy Broussard, the plump and proud medical examiner for the City of New Orleans, is sitting almost in the kill zone of a too-close-for comfort and ‘in living color’ murder of his Uncle Joe Broussard at a family picnic in Bayou Sauvage - the largest urban wetlands park in the USA. Surprisingly, the murderer then immediately commits suicide.

As with all of the books in this series, within the first pages, there is a murder. This time it is New Orleans medical examiner Andy Broussard's Uncle Joe that is shot and killed at a family picnic. The authorities are able to identify the killer but getting answers out of him proves to be impossible, as he has killed himself. This should be an open and shut case, but it proves to be anything but easy. As Andy Broussard and returning characters, Dr. Kit Franklyn, Grandma O, and Bubba Oustilette ...more

This was a great book! I have to say that the first paragraph grabbed me from the get go! What a way to start the book out! Mr. Donaldson is not fooling around with his writing. He grabs you with the first paragraph and he does not let you go!

I have to say I am pretty good at figuring out the who-done-it part of books. But, not this one! The ending for me was a total surprise! I love it! I thought I knew who it was but the person who was behind it all wasn't even on my radar. Way to go Mr. Donal

4 and 1 / 2 stars

Dr. Andy Broussard is attending a family picnic when as assassin shoots Broussard’s cousin, Joe Broussard. As park rangers go after the killer, he turns a gun on himself and kills himself.

Kit Franklyn works with Broussard as a death investigator/psychologist. Due to a police department “sick out” Phil Gatlin, Dr. Broussard’s friend and a detective in NOPD homicide asks Kit to investigate the case of a missing woman, Betty Bergeron.

Dr. Broussard notices some anomalies in the aut

I always want to give my thanks for Goodreads for all the wonderful books I have won over the past several years. Assasination At Bayou Sauvage was an exceptionally good one.

One of my favorite kinds of books are mysteries involving missing people and death and suicide...This book includes all of that as well as wonderful characters. I seem to have read a lot of books in southern settings in recent months, and I'd have to say that this is one of the best I've read.

I plan to try and read other boo

Really enjoyed this book

I rarely read fiction. Don't really enjoy it. However, this book is set in New Orleans, and I will make an exception for most books set in that location. Having read and enjoyed this book, I discovered a whole set of books by this author, with these characters, in this city. I'm gonna read them all.

The first book I've read in this series, and while from the various blurbs I expected a forensic thriller, it was more of a regular crime mystery. Good plot, memorable characters, I will be definitely checking out the first 6 books in the series. Broussard is really likeable.

I was glad that we get to see more of Kit in this book. She is deputized in order to help with a missing person case while Broussard deals with a deeply personal murder, and because of this, she gets a lot more page time than she did in Louisiana Fever. Both characters get to grow in this book (Kit has a couple of close calls that make her and Broussard realize that something might be connecting the two separate cases), but I tho

Andy Broussard is attending a family picnic when his Uncle Joe Broussard is killed by a sniper directly across the picnic table from him. It is clear that the sniper is on a boat and waits for the park rangers to show up before committing suicide. But as Broussard is performing the autopsy on the sniper he sees something that doesn’t mesh. Plus when other people related to Joe end up dead it is clear something is happening. At the same time, Kit Franklin is asked by Phil Gatlin to look into a mi ...more
