Rebecca McNutt
Full of action and fantastic adventure, Magick will definitely appeal to fans of the 1996 film The Craft and the TV series Supernatural. I was surprised by how vivid it all was; Monroe paints a surreal world where virtually anything can happen and creates deep, complex characters to accompany Willow in her life. Willow herself is on the surface an ordinary teenage girl, but as is the case with most YA fantasy novels, she's anything but.

Part of a long line of Wiccans in her family, Willow sees t

I was given this advanced reading copy of Magick for an honest review from the author. A couple of months ago she asked me to be her beta-reader and when I was done I thought the book had potential so I asked her to tell me when it's done.

Now lets begin with the review.

OH MY GOD! I am overwhelmed especially with the end of this book! I read it before it was done and now, reading it again, I am amazed! This book is so much better now! And this ending!

I really like Mira Monroe's writing style a

I'm a little biased, but I sure did enjoy writing it.

Unfortunately, "Magick" did not live up to my expectations. Aside from the grammatical and spelling errors in the book (first time I think I have seen "some-one" instead of someone), the story fell a little flat for me. The story is told from Willow's perspective and she's a spoiled rich kid down to the core. I felt for her at first, as the book begins with her discussing the fall out from when she was almost raped (warning for that, by the way, as it is mentioned in the first couple pages). Soo ...more

Willow is a 16-year-old girl who is living a perfectly normal teenage life. . . or so it seems. First, she finds out she is a witch and then she finds out she is the heir to her families Wiccan throne! I loved that Willow was so real she had inner demons and she had a therapist, she was just so relatable!! She was witty and just so much fun to read about! She had realistic relationships with her father, friends, and boyfriend which can be very hard to find in YA novels!

Even though this story was

I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway.

Willow is ready for her senior year of high school, perfect friends, perfect boyfriend. Then, overnight, she discovers that she is descended from a long line of magic users, Wiccans. Not only is she magick, but she is destined to become Queen of the magic realm, soon, and not everyone is happy with this development.

How does a teenage girl handle school work, parties, and prom all the while looking over her shoulder for demon warriors looking t

Well worth checking out this new author Mira Monroe!! I was lucky to get an advanced readers copy, but it comes out soon. Magick sets up a delightful maze of alternative realms. It’s ingenious. And just when you are truly frustrated (but in a good way like on the edge of your seat) the story unfolds beautifully. I’d almost describe it as a psychological mind teaser with alternate planes and realms set in the current day and with an almost fairy tale style. Willow, the protagonist, is a strong, w ...more

I absolutely loved this book, it's small twists and turns and the setting just drew me in. In my opinion this book is different to the normal magical books, for one, it's about the Wiccans. The normal use of magic is there, but the descriptions and small use of it gives it a different twist to the normal sorts.

I would recommend this to anyone I could, and will definitely be allowing my friends to read it too.

The only complaint I have is its length.... it's not long enough, I need more!! Oh how I

Pleasantly surprised! Good start to an exciting new series that most young adults, and older ones as well, will enjoy. Looking forward to the next in this series.

Magick, from Mira Monroe, is the first book in The Unwanted Series. I don't read as much in the fantasy/paranormal genre as I once did but like to sample what is available on occasion. I am very glad I did so in this case.

What appealed the most to me was the main character, Willow. We experience the novel from her perspective and I was particularly taken with her character. A bit of a snarky high school senior who makes the usual comments for someone that age. There is enough magick to keep thos

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway a few months ago, I've only now had time to read it. Honestly, I think I'm too old for this book. I'm 27 and I do still read a lot of YA books (way better stories than "adult" books) but I struggled with this one.

The story has an excellent premise, the world building is excellent though the writing could use a little work (I spotted a few grammatical/spelling errors and generally awkward sentences). However I found pretty muc

I received a free ARC from the author for my honest review. I was also a Beta reader for this book. This book has in your face action and a few times I caught myself holding my breath. That ending!!! Willow is a strong independent teen girl that knows what she wants and what she is trying very hard to avoid, her past. But it catches up to her and then she meets her grandmother. Willow definitely rolls with the punches plus her guardian Rhydian is a hot added bonus ;) So excited to see were this ...more
