Out of Practice

Phoebe Fox

OUT OF PRACTICE is the fourth book in the Breakup Doctor series and I'm very sad that I'm finished with it. This is the last book in the series and that to me, is heart breaking. I have loved this series since the first book, THE BREAKUP DOCTOR and have come to love Phoebe Fox as well. No one can make me giggle like she can. The main character, Brook Lyn has taught me many things and I have laughed as well as cried with her.

Brook Lyn seems to have found her true love fin

A solid 4.0 Chick Lit Stars...

Phoebe Fox is alright. Darn good, in fact. Actually, one could say that she is a Chick Lit virtuoso. Since "Out of Practice" is the fourth and final novel in her series, " The Breakup Doctor Series", I'm very surprised that we haven't been introduced before now.

Brook Ogden, therapist, is a pretty unique character in this genre of fiction and generally interesting altogether. Her circumstances are stretched to their limits, juggling therapeutic sessions, a radio sho

Favorite Quotes:

We'd always thought my mother was the trunk of our family tree, but when my dad passed away we realized he'd been the roots that anchored her. Since he'd been gone she'd seemed adrift, scattered and faraway, and looking at her now my heart stitched.

L.J. opened his mouth and let out an inhuman screech of sound that evoked nothing so much as the hounds of hell charging out to retrieve some spectacularly damned soul. We both stopped and stared at him, stupefied. 'Maybe that beach ne

I don't want to write this review. If I write this review, I have to both acknowledge and accept the end of one of my favorite series, and I'm not ready or willing to do that. I have laughed with Brook and I have cried with her. I have sympathized with her well-intentioned missteps and I have empathized with her resulting heartaches and heartbreaks. I have learned from her insights and I am going to miss her relationship wisdom and heartfelt advice.

Out of Practice, carrying on the great tradition of the Breakup Doctor series, is the kind of book that will have you dialing your girlfriends so you can read sections out loud. Vivid, true, and frequently comedic. Goes down as a favorite finale.” – MM Finck, Women Writers, Women’s Books

Brook is back as the BreakUp Doctor, and her business has been booming, that is until she reluctantly agrees to star on the Morning TV show hosted by a frenemy from High School. One thing leads to another, and this show segment ends up painting Brook as nothing but a glorified friend and makes a big joke out of her business. Whoever said any publicity is good publicity has not met the people of Brook's town as patients week by week starting to cancel, and her numbers start dwindling. If this was ...more

Great end of series wrap up with all the feels. Great characters, witty dialog, and tightly woven plot. A great read, and recommended.

5 Stars !!!

Yes, I gave the rare rating of 5 stars to this lovely book. It is the conclusion of the
Breakup Doctor series and I am so glad I did not realize it was the finale going in. This book brought out so many emotions in me. And I think that is what is great about Phoebe Fox’s writing. She makes you feel things even when you think you are numb inside.

The story starts with the discovery that Brook’s father has passed away. And I was like…. WHAT?! I was sad that we did not get to go through t

Loved this book and how it wrapped up this whole series!

Brook and Ben are still together and planning a wedding, well sort of...there is no date and Brook isn't feeling the love on it all. She loves Ben, just can't get in the wedding planning groove. And it doesn't help that she is blindsided by a classmate from high school that is hell bent on revenge all these years later. Seriously, let it go!

Brook is also in a quandary where her career is going and is she doing what she should or is there so

I’m a little ashamed I never heard of Phoebe Fox before… I was very impressed by Out of Practice and I wish I read the other books in the series. And tot hink that there are people who say that reading ‘chicklit’ is just for fun! I’ve learned a lot reading this book and I think everybody who is even thinking of going to a therapist should read this book first. It is a real eye-opener.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this!

Another winner from Phoebe. I've followed this series - although all books can be read as standalones.

This one focusses on Brook herself as a vindictive old school friend does her best to destroy Brook's reputation on a show.

The book follows as Brook doubts herself, her abilities and her relationship. It's thoughtful and heart warming.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Out of Practice is Book 4 in The Breakup Doctor series. The book can be read as a standalone but to appreciate the characters and history I would recommend reading all the books in order. The Breakup Doctor series is as follows:

Light, cute premise. Easy to like & follow characters - while not life-altering, who always needs that - escapes are a good thing sometimes. I liked it, it was an overall enjoyable read! Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley For the ARC opportunity!

Brook was nervous about going on t v. Melissa was the host of Wake Up, South west Florida and she had asked Brook for an interview. Melissa asked Brook if she was ready and told her she would do fine. Melissa and Brook had history they were both Fort Myers natives and had been homeroom classmates all through school. As you know, I don't like jumping into a series part way through, but I read Heart Conditions (Breakup Doctor book 3) last year and loved it so much that I didn't hesitate to add book 4 to my reading list. All of my favourite characters are back: Brook and Ben, with their dogs Winston and Jake, and Sasha and Stu with their new baby, LJ.

Out of Practice takes on a more serious tone as Brook and her family learn to cope with the loss of her dad. Add to the fact that Brook has not set a wedding date

Brook Ogden finally recovers from many downs and her life is in great state, especially her love life. She definitely lives with the love of her life and their two fur friends. Sasha and Stu are good, and they have an adorable baby, who everyone in the family loves. The only thing that is not right is her beloved father’s death.

After Brook’s appearance in one show on the local television her self-esteem and her work life goes on the downward path. The TV hostess is her frenemy, and it seems that

An emotional, but charming end to a delightful series. Interesting insights to human behavior, not just those involved in a breakup. Family...mother/daughter, father/daughter, etc. Friends and co-workers.

This is the only book in this series that I've read and this is the fourth and last one. Not exactly the best place to start a series. Typically I would go back and read the previous books, but this time I didn't. Maybe I would have been more taken with the characters if I had read the whole series, but I didn't. I felt like a lot of the relationship between Brook and Ben had already happened and that I needed someone to bring me up-to-date on it. It was strange and sort of flat up until the end ...more

Out of Practice is book #4 in The Breakup Doctor series. I had no idea when I started with book #1 that I would come to think of Brook as a friend. I have loved being in her life, watching her grow and change in her professional life, as well as in her personal life, just like a real friend would do.

Brook, as The Breakup Doctor, counsels people who seek her out for guidance as they work through messy relationships. She imparts wonderful words of wisdom to all of the people she works with as they

Having believed that book 3 in the Breakup Doctor series was the last, I was delighted to find out there was a fourth book. I jumped at the chance to read it as I enjoyed the previous books.

This book is as enjoyable as the previous books, but in certain ways is totally different to the others. This story feels far more serious due to the content. Brook has had to accept that some things will never change, but sees a way forward with her practice. Helping people is what she was born to do and alt

OMG! I absolutely loved this book. I stayed hooked to this one, and literally dropped everything I had to do.

There were so many things to like about it. My grandmother passed on this year, and I can see the same forgetfulness in my grandfather, albeit a lot less because I spend time with him.

I can certainly attest to feeling completely emotionally spent and burned out. The author just completely got to me because so much of what she said is something I face everyday. It made the book that much m

SUPER GOOD BOOK!! This is my first time reading one of The Breakup Doctor Series Books. Man, did I pick a winner! From beginning to end I enjoyed every single page! Fox manages to create her characters with such love that they seem as real as you and me. Her characters are far from perfect, quite flawed in fact, and that makes them all the more relatable. The Breakup Doctor, Brook Ogden, who has always made it her personal goal to help those whose hearts are breaking or broken, finds herself in ...more

4.5 Stars I really, really like this series. This time, Brook has some serious issues of her own. She's burnt out. She's even yelled at a few of her clients. She's even had a fight with her fiance and she can't even think about a wedding date. She knows she wants to be married, but she doesn't want the wedding. And to top it off, she thinks her mother is having early on-set dementia. It's just all to much for her. She wants to quit, but her fiance talks her into taking some time off instead. Tha ...more

When we have been stretching ourselves too far for too long, things lose their perspective.

Brook Ogden's Breakup Doctor therapy practice, radio program, newspaper column, group sessions are spreading her thin. With the recent passing of her father, she's worried about her Mom, feeling pressured about not spending time with her BFF and nephew and finds she is unable to make any decisions about her wedding to Ben. Brook needs a break herself, but she's slow to figure that out. When Brook reaches r

I was so happy to read this fourth and final installment of the Break Up Doctor Series. I have loved every book and this one was no different.

Brook Lyn has grown over he series and this time, things started coming apart for her. After being ambushed on the morning talk show of her high school nemesis, Brook starts losing clients. Her mom is having a hard time with the loss of her father, her best friend, Sasha, is struggling with new motherhood and Brook, herself, can't seem to figure out what s

Highly enjoyable final book n the Breakup Doctor series.

Despite it having been absolutely ages since I read book 3, it really didn't take long for me to feel right at home again with all the characters in book 4.

I loved seeing the recurring characters and patients, and seeing what predicaments Brooke was able to get herself into this time.

Hilarious in places, and full of great advice for getting over a broken heart in others, this was a fabulous way to end a series that I have really enjoyed

This is the 4th book in the series, though I haven't read any of the previous books I didn't struggle with the characters at all.

This book is all about Brook also known as "The Breakup Doctor". We follow her journey as she makes some life changing decisions that could turn her life upside down.

This book was great & dealt with issues of grief & heartbreak. It was quite refreshing to not read a single steamy sex scene & I thought
