Outstanding, deep work. Recalled the best of Camus and Dostoyevsky, only darker. You want to sympathize with Andy, but you aren't sure if his goal is evolution or self-immolation. And if the former, evolution into what? something like his antagonists? You get the sense that he'd love to be like them, but I get the sense that he is kind of like a dog chasing a car; he wouldn't know what to do with it if he caught it.

This book was good. The ending was one I wasn't expecting and I feel it would have been better if it was longer and fleshed out the story a little more. Otherwise, this book was interesting.

i was the lucky winner of a copy of this novel through a goodreads win. it is a story of a shy awkward young man who travels to ecuador to learn a new language and start his life over. he is befriended by three sociopaths who set out to con him out of everything he has. the story is about their systematic plan to get close to him and rob him. what there is of the story is good, but it is very short. i would have gave it a higher rating if it was longer and more developed. it has a surprise endin ...more
