John Hugen Tobler is a British rock music journalist, writer, occasional broadcaster, and record company executive.

With Pete Frame, he was one of the founders of ZigZag magazine in April 1969. The magazine focused on the "underground" music scene of the time, and featured Tobler's interviews with many of the leading rock and folk musicians of the period, both American and British. He continued to write for ZigZag until the 1980s, and for many other music magazines since then.

This book is a very interesting mix of the successes and misbehavior (often deadly) of major and minor artists on the rock and roll circuit. It combines births and deaths of the day with major stories involving some musician. (Warning: the book is heavy on The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and The Rolling Stones.) It provides a good history of noteworthy events on both sides of the Atlantic. Not to be read in a few sittings, the book is far more enjoyable when only a few days are explored at a time.
