Cole Almen is home from the war, but he suffered a terrible loss…

Cole, a Navy SEAL, has returned home after losing his best friend Ezra right before his eyes. To make matters worse, Cole’s roommates are his girlfriend, Catherine, and Ezra’s fiancée, Adeline.

Adeline Chevallier blames Cole for her fiancé’s death, and so does Catherine…

Adeline is devastated when she learns of Ezra’s death, and holds Cole responsible, which makes them so uncomfortable they can hardly look at each other. At first, Catherine appears to be the only thing keeping the house from falling apart, but without warning, her behavior changes, forcing Cole to kick her out. Finally alone, Adeline and Cole form an unexpected bond.

Cole and Adeline are so caught up in these new emotions that they forget about Catherine—and her secrets…

Catherine is keeping big secrets which could destroy everything Cole and Adeline have built. When she finally reveals what she’s been hiding, her dangerous inner demons take over. When Cole returns to war, Adeline feels betrayed by everyone she holds dear, and does her best to move on.

Cole is miserable during his deployment. When he comes home from duty, he is determined to be with Adeline, but doesn’t even know how to find her.

Cole is trained to save people, but can't seem to save the people he treasures most. With his life in turmoil, he’s running out of time to turn things around…

And Adeline might just be his last chance at Absolution.

I received a copy in return for an honest review.

I'm a sucker for a hot Navy Seal romance and Absolution did not disappoint. Cole Almen is on on a mission when tragedy strikes a fellow Seal, his brother, his best friend Ezra is killed to say he's devastated is an understatement which only adds to the guilt he feels once he's back home and having to face Ezra's fiancée Adeline who he just so happens to live in the same house as along with his girlfriend Catherine. His and Catherine's relationship has always been what you'd call strained so it doesn't really come as a surprise when he ends things with her the final nail in the coffin when it comes to the end of thier relationship is Catherine's behaviour which in the end pushes Cole and Adeline together, they both kind of skip around thier feelings towards each other but when they do finally give in it blossoms beautifully despite there being a crazy ex on the loose there's a good few bumps on the road to true love but it does end well for Cole and Adeline. I loved the twist in the story and how the prolouge connected with the ending. This was a great novella from Penelope I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rating this book between 3.75-4. Penelope is a great writer and you see that come into this book: Absolution.

The story between Cole & Adeline is unique. Tragedy strikes them both and you feel that as your read through the pages. Unexpected additional events come through the chapters keeping you on a roller coaster wanting to know what happens next. There are character(s) that you love to hate and you just WANT to know what crazy thing comes next.

It is a good story and I don't regret reading it. It was well written overall. Like I mentioned there were a few parts that made me want more but that doesn't necessarily pull away from the book. i did love the prologue and then how it clicks at the end with the epilogue and final chapter.
There were a couple parts with the gap in time that begs you to want to know more, like when he's on his last mission what happened during that time for him what changed in his mind from where he left to when they reconnect in the end.

I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

Adeline is Navy Seal Ezra’s finance, they share a house together with Cole and Catherine. Ezra and Cole are in the same team, and Ezra dies whist on a mission. Cole has reservations about his girlfriend Catherine, and he doesn’t know if she will still be around when he get back from deployment. Cole separates from Catherine and she goes crazy. Adeline and Cole are both suffering from the death of Ezra, but they also feel the chemistry between them. They struggle with the chemistry and Adeline is having trouble with her grief with Ezra deaths. She finds out he was cheating on her with Catherine and she comes to term with his death. With everything going on around them do Adeline and Cole get a second chance of love together?

This story is about betrayal, hopelessness, loss and love. Cole is so tired of not having the happiness he deserves or the woman he loves. He serves his country and he loves his job but he's not complete. Adaline was his best friends girl but he died and she's trying to get through life but she doesn't know that cole loves her. What happens when the woman you love and want has no idea. Then throw in a crazy ex.

It started good but then it all felt rushed and how the memory of Ezra ends up been all tarnished was a lame excuse for her to get over his death.
