Coming of Age with End of WWII as Backdrop

This book was a coming of age story surrounding Walter Heinrich, a young Prussian, who is trapped in Konigsberg. With his Father MIA, and the Soviet's advancing on the city, the Heinrich family's eldest son is struggling to keep his mother, and young sisters together.
The characters were easily definable and interesting. Story is tight without loose ends. Excellent, thorough, gripping.
